I give up on PvP - here's why

1) Long queue times. 30 min+ queues if you check every pvp box, which doesn't matter because...

2) I always get Slaughter mode. There is no variety in the matching, always get Slaughter mode and Slaughter mode is just the worst.

2a) Limited strategy.
2b) I'm Maelstrom and always lose to Adder + Flames collusion and/or premades. 12+ matches with no wins so far this week.
2c) I'm on ps3 and the mid won't load with 72 people plus nodes there. Just drop ps3 support if you're going to design content in such blatant disregard to ps3 limitations.

3) PvP gear is only good in Wolves' Den unsynced level 50 (which almost nobody does). And yes I know a lot of it has crit/dtr but my demon boots from WoD give me better crit (same everything else) as my pvp crit/dtr boots in Frontline.

3a) It requires an enormous amount of wolf marks to obtain.
3b) It has high rank requirements. My PvE gear has been consistently better than PvP gear of my rank that I can equip.

4) PvP takes too much exp to rank up and roulette doesn't give bonus exp or marks, just more boring tomes. The challenge log would be helpful except...

4a) Nobody does Wolves' Den (see above), queue times are prohibitive, and Maelstrom never wins Slaughter (the only mode anyone ever wants to do).
4b) The exp bonus from the challenge log is slight compared to how much exp you need to rank up.
4c) There are not enough challenge log modes (participate, win). Maybe add kill X nodes, drones, other players, something.

5) Balancing is terrible. I know it's for the sake of shorter queues but I'm so sick of 6 tank, 2 drg 8-person parties. Also BLM are OP and should have their LBs nerfed into the ground but any ranged is still a whole lot better than melee. Pvp abilities for tanks are terrible. We need more abilities to actually let us tank and everyone needs more abilities to get rid of CC effects (considering that IF you have a healer, they will never ever remove a single effect from you).

Yeah this is a rant. So frustrated by the state of PvP in this game. :(

Yea pvp is pretty bad atm. For 3 though, some PvP pieces are really good if you don't have the dreadwyrm yet, like for off classes. They have good secondary stats. But yea, bad queue times, bad balance, bad strategy, bad lag, and bad dev response. I mean the devs have said jack for this whole time. Not even a "we're looking into it" just a bug fix for cometeor timing was all. And then there are a bunch of stuff that should have been fixed a long time ago, like pvp skill points per class so we don't have to respec every time we change.

It doesn't look like there'd be any relief until 3.0. For now, whenever people ask for mmorpg recommendations and they are even remotely interested in PvP I tell them to steer clear of this game.

Have fun in PVE :D

Enjoy PvE, and wait for the changes in 3.0. You may like what they do.

Until then, PvP won't see anything worthy change.

This is what i have been waiting a while aswell, its annoying when you regulary play 4 diffirent jobs in pvp. Also i kinda agree with OP's 2nd point, getting slaughter 24/7 gets rather boring so gieb some 72man secure now and then.

All valid points, but I will say, if you're tired of Maelstrom losing take the initiative and lead them into victory.

Also, have the devs said ANYTHING about PvP in 3.0? Just a kernal of info will keep me satisfied, if anyone knows, please. Square is notoriously bad for their lack of info on games, but this is a freaking MMO, they cant keep ignoring us and only release info when they feel like it.

I really have to agree with that PS3 point. That one REALLY is a gripe of PvP. You literally can't play 72man slaughter with a PS3 console. I use a PC and have to turn off my power saver settings (I play with this on everything except 72man and S-ranks) just to play 72 man fights. It's the same as an S-Rank basically, which I know the PS3 can't handle well. And even then, I think the PS3 console needs to hide models and such to get better performance? Well you can't do that in PvP, where the players are your targets (unlike S-ranks). I really think they should add a separate queue option for 24 man otherwise they're clearly locking out PS3 players from this content -- which is extremely bad on SE's part.

Hell, I play on the PS4 and slaughter mode is STILL terrible on it. Not that I'd expect some groundbreaking change, but my fps still handily drops down into the 20-35fps range and it's sort of discouraging to play.

If you want to win as Maelstrom, I'd suggest moving over to the primal side of things, where it's (usually) Adders and Maels and at each others throats.

I disagree with you on two things; the PvP exp system and the marks. If you win a Frontline match, you get 600 wolfmarks. Seeing as the most expensive gear is only around ~12,000 wolfmarks per piece, it's really not that much to deal with.

As for PvP rank, it's designed so that it's not something you can get in a week. Granted, while I think it's a bit too much as it currently stands, they shouldn't nerf it too much, because then there's no incentive to continue to play.

But boy, do I miss 72 man secure.

I'm on PC which can play the latest game on highest graphics settings, but it still takes me more than 30 sec to load players in 72 man, meaning I usually just jump up and die.
I have never felt pvp was getting boring since this patch, I always get slaughter always, and I want to do secure, but I'm afraid maybe queutimes will be 1 hour longer if I only queue for it.
I read somewhere the leader of the game said he loves pvp, but why is he ruining it?
I am out of pvp too because I haven't got into one pvp game lately that wasn't 120min+ queuetime just to join a 72 man slaughter, jump up to middle and die before I can see my enemy. Story of pvp for me right now

I lost most of PvP fan too, but i sttill find it useful for tomestone grind. I don't know what to do with soldiery but still need poetics. I register to pvp during mass craft of items for sale and interrupt crafting to fight a little ) And i don't worry about result - i don't see any valuable corellation between my efforts and final result. It is also possible to mix frontlines in DF with another nonroulette duties like WoD, Syrcus, etc to reduce wait times. U only need to equip PvE gear set during duty registation - it can be changed to PvP one at start point.

The problem is... that the Duty finder search box often does not show the real queue time for pvp..

i do lots of pvp in the prime time.. when it says 26-30+ mins and often the waiting time is just around 5-15 mins..

Opinions:
Challenge log is actually pretty reasonable 10&15% exp towards next level per entries
Wolf marks in abundance! I've bought so many sets that I can't wear, just because I cap so often. I think the ratio of EXP/Reward is off. I can buy every White Mage set up to ilvl9000 and still be rank 25.

Bad points:
Queue times suck
4v4 doesn't exist -> which means 50% of challenge log is useless
Ranking up takes an impossible amount of time due to queues (I just want to wear my cute Swan outfit already...)

As i said.. the pvp queues at 11 am and stuff are bad..

but in the prime time 4/5pm - 11pm the queues are often faster than actual PvM content..

i often queue up for Odin and PVP at the same time.. and pvp often goes up after 5-10 mins.. before Odin opens.
although the box says (26-30+ mins waiting time)..

I'm Rank 43 in Maelstrong, BLM main and PVP is my favorite activity by far (my signature card is outdated btw but not my lodestone page).

I've been playing FF since beta and hit Rank 30 before the FL release (just with Wolfs Den).

Oh and i'm PS3 too^

The reason why i PVP? I just LOVE it, i like having huge scores at Slaughter, and i enjoy killing other players toons.

Well FF has a loot of activities for everyone that's very enjoyable.

I know ps3 sucks at handling 72 people pvp but its not SE fault. i just hate long queues but outside of that i have no grief about these pvp modes

Sorry forgot to mention. I was on Coeurl from since beta to november 2014 and i had 33% 1st places 34% second. Then i moved to Moogle which is on another cluster and noticed no changes at all. Still 33 or 34% win on weekly results as well as overall.

It has been just a bit better at the beginning. If i remember well i had 40% wins at Wolfs Den before FL release ( on 408 matches).

Last week, flames were getting their ass kicked every game. Mid way through the week i had enough and decided to take action, i took control of strat thankfully people listened needless to say i then got 27 wins from around 34 games, currently im on a 17 winstreak.
Not saying its purely down to me, but people need leaders on this game mode if you take control they will listen.
Secure isnt all about mid > defend op> mid > defend op and slaughter actually has strategy, yes i roll blm to all this but i have yet to ever lb spam a team no other blms really talk.
I have come up against lb spammers and tbh they are easily defeated if you work together
Shame about your ques, i usually average 5-20mins except yesterday only 2 games but i put that down to wod reset day

Although blm lb is powerful when used together it singlely it can be easily countered by a competent healer, melee lb however is pretty much a one shot kill

Also always annoying to change, because it's stupid to play slaughter with 4-5 healers. But when you change to a DD specc...

I win sometimes, I lose sometimes. They key is to stay determined. You also have to love pvp and the thrill of being awesome in it, even when the rest of your team isn't, to have fun. Also to be patient when the ques begin to suck :3
I got 714 battles total with a 41.6% victory rate. If you're good, sometimes you can be the reason why your GC wins. Especially in the tighter matches like the 24 man ones. If you lose your spirit too soon, you could become the reason your team loses, too.
I see the OP's point, though, due to the fact that she's maelstrom. I saw someone on maelstrom side one time get on their magitek and start using the cannon like the just didn't' give a crap. That is not to say that Mael never wins though. I've seen them win a few times, definitely not as often as they used to, though. Be patient, they'll get better.

My rank now is 40 in Maelstorm. Usually play as SCH for Aura Blast. I like to grind pvp because since I desynthesis GSM stuff, pvp gear gives BC3. Also I like to aim those animal gear. Sometimes Maelstorm can win streak on Mana data center, but Flame always play dirty trick like joining with Serpent ambush. It makes me mad but whatever I only care with animal gear and BC3 lol.
