! Cloud over behest battle warden...

Just a random thought, but it might be nice to see the ! cloud over the battle warden's head when they have a behest for players to undertake. If your timer hasn't expired, it wouldn't show up, but for those who could undertake it, they would see it, helping to prompt new players into talking with the battle warden. :)

Also, would love for players to auto group when doing a behest... If a player is already in a party, the parties would merge, or new players would auto join the party that is doing the behest. :)

This is a good idea.

Although rather than using the same icon as for Quests, which is likely to cause confusion, I would use a similar but different icon. Replace the ! with a sword or something. And rather than using the same "Bound by duty" icon for players as they do for Leves, they could use the same cloud/sword icon for players in Behest too.

Like both of these ideas. Delmontyb a few have mentioned autogrouping for Behests and think it too would help ppl create PTs if they were unsure how to. But what about us MMO vets? How would you wish SE to address players who are familiar with PT builds or just want to be silly and have an all Pug group or all Con group OR are trying a new PT setup to test for NM runs? :)

I think I would rather not have that.

It's one thing to have the ! clouds over quests givers so that players don't have to circle through all NPC in a town every level or so to see if there is a new quest.

But the Battlewarden is quite evident and he is even spamming his/her speech every 15-30 seconds or so. I don't think we need the ! cloud above it.

But the auto-group upon signing up for the behest could be nice.

This is a valid point and it crossed my mind as well. The point that made sense to me was the fact that the icon would only show when you are personally eligible to join. So it would only be there half the time. And it needn't be as obvious as the quest marker. It could me a more subtle icon or indicator, similar to a linkshell crest. Or maybe they could just filter the Battlewarden's calls if you're currently not eligible.

That is a good point and Korbei that was a nice retort and positive idea as well. What if instead of the BW's name being in the same green as the other NPCs, it was a different color causing him to stand out rather than a ! cloud?

Could show red for you if you are not eligible maybe. But we do have the timers in our attribute tab to see if we are eligible or not. Plus people should know that you are eligible 1 behest out of 2. So if you did a behest 30mins ago and you see the BW spawn, you should know that you can't do it unless you are really unaware of the RL world, in which case the NPC tells you you can't join anyways.

I still think that a ! cloud is not necessary, a different color could be done but still not something that is really needed. If you are doing leves and the BW spawns you should know if you did it 30mins ago or not, the game doesn't need to graphically relfect that, imho.

No I can agree with that but also Korbei's thought. I mean, when they were talking about implementing the ! cloud in general I was NOT for it at all. When I came back recently though, it has helped me find NPCs I had nvr noticed before so I can kind of see this being a very minor item in the long list of major ones but, an idea with some merit. :)

Yup, I do not agree that it is require but that doesn't mean others can't find it needed. So if it can make some people happy and have them do Behest more, then they can add it ^^

The quest NPC, while FFXI didn't have any I think it's a nice addition because all the while I played FFXI all I did was look online to see what quest I could do at my level and see if they gave nice rewards. Some people complains that it removes some realism to the game but I don't like the idea of needing to look online to play a game or talking to every NPC everytime you level to see if there's something new, so I can see why that was needed.

You know what though, lol? I thought this exact same thing which is why I was against it in the first place. :D But it does help in the beginning. Maybe as suggested with so many just small detail oriented ideas, SE could do the whole toggle on/off. If you want ! clouds or "highlighted" NPC names cool. If not, here u go turn them off. :)

However, if such an icon should be implemented, I would like to see them take it a step further, and instead of using the ! as we see with quest NPCs currently, maybe have it show how many more are able to join the Behest. So, if there are currently 3 people signed up, the Battle Warden would have the sign show 5.
This would actually help if you are a small party already playing together and considering signing up, so you know if all will be able to participate.

This is an excellent idea, I think that would stand out more... As for those who didn't want it, I'm all for toggles within the config system to turn off these types of markers. :)

Well to ideas to this question.

First for the behest, players when joining would confirm they want to be in the public group.

For open world, or NM hunts, auto group would be something that is optional. Meaning you as the player could join other adventures in the area if you wish, or turn off group notifications by default... I should post more on this in another topic.

And make the world even more lifeless than it is now?

The whole Eorzea world is lacking in NPC random chatter and NPC life.

Hell the BW should not only spam his/her plea for help every 30 seconds, they should walk around the camp as well.
