Higher graphic options

I was wondering if it's possible (down the line) that higher graphics options were to be added? Currently even at the highest graphics I still feel that there's more this game could give. And I'd love to see even better textures, anti-aliasing, shadows, and more.

Just bigger and better really, but as an option. That way the ps3 won't be taxed. (they can't even handle clothes moving after all)
Those who would have the system to support the additional graphics can turn it on, those who don't, miss out.
But nobody has to have a lower performance as an result. (unless they choose to show the settings)
Textures can be saved locally and thus shouldn't tax the server load as they're loaded by the client same with anything else graphics wise really.

I'd also love to see belts returning as an separate entity, all the other slots show up separately so why can't belts?
(again this can be an option if it's an issue only showing it to those who have it turned on (it could overwrite the current belt models with your own belt)

To summarize I'd like to see added

• Higher texture options
• Higher anti-aliasing options
• Better shadow options
• More shadows
• More lighting options
• Separately shown belt models

All of these optional to those who can support the settings.

DX11 is on the way!!!

Once we get dx11 everything will pretty much improve (even performance).

dx11 will be nice, but it isn't going to be the wonder fix a lot of people are thinking it will. Along with dx11 we are getting high res textures on character models, I just wish the rest of the world was getting the same treatment.

One thing I really hope we get along with dx11 is better quality shadows, the pixelated juddering shadows a lot of objects cast atm are just awful.

To me this comes off as nitpicking about graphics...as far as MMOs go, FFXIV probably has the best on the market, though Black Desert looks to be trying to snag that title away.
It still amazes me how, even with all these complaints, it still runs better than MMOs that have been around the better part of a decade.

I'd love to have the 1.0 models and textures back.

Totally with you on the belt idea.

The game does look carboard-ish. A little kindergarten in appearance. I can't become embellished in it's atmosphere currently.

Hey, it's only the models and textures. Not asking for anything else! Of course, updating the texture maps and the mesh volume for everything that has since been made for 2.0+ is a given. I mean, wouldn't you want your character looking better? Snazzier? Imagine all the screenshot opportunities!

Textures would be nice, a number of textures are visually pixelated even at a distance. Excited for DX11 though :D

Weeeelllll....ok i did play 1.0 beta and i agree with you that the characters did looked pretty spiffy and i do miss my 1.0 miqo, and i will also agree the color palette could use more work, will SE ever get around to adjusting these things? *shrugs*, all we can do as players is give our feedback and suggestions, more people that will speak up on these concerns the better chance we will have a chance at these things being addressed, and as others have mentioned dx11 is coming in 3.0...hopefully we get more than what was shown at the last fanfest.

Yes, DX11 gives you a new lighting engine with better shaders, increases polygon count on models, upgrades textures from 256x256 files to 1080p, improves the games Skyboxes, get's rid of the Planes used for spell animations and changes them to be more dynamic and 3D, improves depth of field, better physics engine and much better particle effects

DX11 isn't the hope you think it'll be. It'll improve the game visually and increase performance, indeed, but it won't be the graphical overhaul that a lot of us with really "beast" machines want.

I wonder if SE will ever do DX12 support. That runtime is just around the corner...

It depends on how much of the crowd could make use of said graphics update. If it's going to take hundreds of hours upgrading the graphics that only a fraction of a fraction the pc users can enjoy, it's probably not going to happen.

The upgrade to dx11 is probably the only graphics update they'll do for a while.

I just hope there's a setting on pc versions to up scale the graphics if we have a rig that can handle it on our end. Or to down scale it to PS3 quality to reduce load and increase performance. Or at least give the textures a more natural look or like some dyed pieces have a little wear or age to them. Either way I really want to be able to see how well the Iron works set would look on dark when it comes out and DivX 11 is added.

That's the beauty of graphics. Even if currently not too many people could use it (and thus it wouldn't be too high on the priority list). as technologies advance, it'll become more and more common for people to have systems that can do more and be better at it. So a graphics update especially if you have it as an higher option isn't a bad thing. It's more preparing for the future really.

I do however expect that if additional graphics options are to be added, they'd be added quite far down the line.
(still nice if they are added though :) )

Yeah, from what I've seen, I'm not incredibly impressed with the DX11 client, though I do know it should raise framerates on DX11 cards due to the more efficient coding. I just hope the DX11 client has a 64-bit version with multi-core support, too, for even more performance increases.

It certainly beats SWTOR and WOW but it IS true that 1.0 had higher level graphics, just not much to show it on. PS3 would certainly struggle with 1.0 graphics, but the PS4 and the PC wouldn't.

Did they actually say there will be high definition texture? Doesn't seem to be in the Live Letter linked above.

The biggest difference I have seen is water effects. The rest did not seem that different to me in the example screenshots they have showed about the ongoing transition to DX11. Here is an article about the transition.

One of the many reasons that 1.0 failed was because most PCs did indeed struggle with the graphics.

No, 1.0 failed because it was unplayable. Between extreme lack of content, bland and recycled maps, a terrible UI, and lag that would kill a chess game, the game was doomed.

Just a personal note, this whole thread is "first world problems".

well that was how many years ago? Five? PC specs change a lot. Listen I never played 1.0 but I did bump into a veeeery long thread here on the forums where 1.0 players listed what they miss from the old game. At least 60 pages could be filled with only the graphic comments. People really do miss it.

I never even played 1.0 while it was live, but even I wish we could have an option to use some of the higher poly models and higher res textures, and maybe even some of the additional item physics (omg my shield and sword actually look like they're hanging from me and sway as I move, instead of just being plastered on!). But alas, I don't think the new engine can handle it.

Yes, current mid range PC would most likely be able to handle the Crystal Tools Engine FFXIV 1.XX, but between it's launch and it's end in 2012 most PCs could barely run it at decent settings. Crystal Tools wasn't built with an MMO in mind, and the developers went all out on the visuals (flower pot with as many polygons as a player character model). I think even some 2015 mid range spec PCs would struggle to run 1.XX.

This was one of the things that kept me from playing 1.0, I could barely push 8FPS at near lowest settings at native resolution (1360x768. At 720p it ran the same. Tried at the absolute lowest settings and resolution even though looked like utter garbage, still couldn't push more than 11).

I'd love for some higher textures to be added soon, some of the NPC's clothes looks like a 1080p image zoomed in over 500x, you could probably count the pixels.

They can still improve the graphic quality if they want without pull a ffxiv 1.0 madness again. i think they won't repeat the same mistake again. They also said that they will keep improving the DX11 client after its reelase by bringing more feature of it. So I guess we will further improvements after its release. For now let's wait for the DX11 to make it out then we can resume this discussion.

That's the biggest problem with the current graphics now. Shadows lighting etc look very nice but the textures are really bad. The clothes and the skin of characters are horrible. This is what I want them to fix. There is no need to go to a crazy super resolution but this is below average and they can improve it.
