We all know where this is going to head, but I'm going to ask anyway. I would really like for my character to look like it's barefoot. The Emperor's boots shows, for Elezen, smallclothes-sandals. It would be appreciated if we could have footwear that allows for a barefoot look. Is there any chance for this?

I believe the models are created with the slope of the foot appropriate to the sole on those shoes. So while I agree with you completely, and would use the heck out of a true barefoot glamour, I don't think it's likely.

They replied to call outs for this before, said it'd be unrealistic for people to run around rough terrain barefoot or something to that effect.

These pictures were taken from the same camera angle, yet look at the difference in height from the base of the feet and the ground (if i had a choice as the the modeler, i'd use the ninja kyahan as a base to create a bare-foot "boot").
There isn't anything tech-wise preventing SE from creating a bare-foot look. It's as easy as creating a new boot. The only thing that stops them from doing so is... well they just don't want to. -

I wouldn't mind my character appearing to be floating if they got rid of the texture for a sole. But square shouldn't need to do this. They can always "extend the ankle" with texturing.
