Suggestion - Role swapping in instance

Something I'd like to see investigated is the option to swap roles IF a player leaves the group.

I.E you get into Wanders palace HM, tank goes "BYYYYEEEE!" and your left queeing for another 20 minutes waiting for a tank to join in progress etc.

I would like to see it looked at the option of Having the players swap. I.E tank is under geared but has a very good BRD, so a dps swaps roles with Tank ( cos they have better gear as tank) for example. I can see some potential problems with this so it would need investigating first, something of a Token system possible that allows you to make the swap. Maybe you can only hold a set few token at a time and they cost Allied Seals/ Tomes/GC's to buy etc, Something to discourage people from abusing the system.

Just let the players vote on it. Someone could initiate role swap to the role of the person who's role isn't represented, and a box pops up for voting to accept role change. Allow rewards based on class they queued as ve class they changed to if they didn't join dungeon with party so this can't be exploited as pre-planned thing.

It's so disappointing that this game has this cool job swap system and gives you virtually no opportunity to use it in any meaningful content. I'd love this personally.

As a tank, I always queue my roulettes with the Party in Progress selected. Loved getting a quick 2/3 expert for my alexandrite daily or quick Light. Not to mention ppl just love ya when you pop in to save the day.

I would like this feature. But the problem is, you'd still be down one person, which might screw with people who are in queue. Say for instance.

Queue in as a DPS for Halatalii HM.

You're in the dungeon. Tank decides to dip. You then commence a role swap. The tank who was in queue for that spot might end up getting screwed due to the role swap happening. So you'd need to wait on a DPS to fill the slot in that you originally had when you first got into the instance.

While you make somewhat of a point, it's really at the discretion of the team leader if they want to replenish ranks. So as long as they add the feature to where the party can decide on who assumes which role after the tank/dps/healer leaves, and then the leader chooses to replenish ranks, that would be ok.

I would be completely behind this. It doesn't happen often, but I have had a tank or healer drop and then we're just stuck 2/3 of the way through a dungeon with bad luck getting a rep. I can fill both roles, it'd be nice if I could do that so we could just get another DPS and carry on our merry way.

Good point, that would def speed up DPS queues too!

Seconded. It should be an option that pops up after someone leaves, maybe even the default option rather than "search for replacements," just to give players time to think about what to do with the rest of the instance. On a gamepad, the box usually pops up so fast that I don't even see it before it steals the X button input from whatever window I was in. That usually comes at the same time as "crap, I was trying to leave!" And then you end up suffering through the rest of the run anyway, even though it's usually not the problem player who quits halfway.

What's the worst that could happen? The tank doubles the amount of time he's in the queue? Zero times two is still zero.

If it's only for in-progress dungeons that have been waiting for a replacement for over 1 minute (must be longer than the Commend count down), then why not?

Regarding the proposed system:

If a DPS has enough gear for the content in the first place, why would he/she queue as DPS? I would just queue tank. Why would anybody choose to queue half-hour DPS if he/she has a geared tank available for instant pop?

The only logical situation is when leveling (e.g. have 50PLD but want to level 19ARC) and gearing (e.g. have iLv120 PLD and want to gear iLv100 WHM). In which case the system necessarily need to allow for two things:

• All experience earned are awarded to and calculated according to the job you queued as and its level.
• All loot rolls are determined by the role you queued as.

Otherwise swapping out of DPS mid-content beats the whole point of queuing as DPS in the first place.

If tank was queued he should be assigned to that spot but if there is no tank queued then why keep the party waiting?

Its also not even necessary or said that there WAS a tank in queue and someone whos actually in the dungeon has taken his slot - you still have to hit the button to search for a replacment. If you dont do that no one will come, no ones place will get "stolen". I'd really liked a feature like that though! Maybe even along with the "search for a replacment"-option - like the game is asking if someone wants to switch. Sometime I'll go into a duty as bard - to get light, because I'm tired of tanking or to tired to tank, whatever. But if we're halfway through the dungeon I totally wouldnt mind to safe the run by switching to my pally. Hell, sometime I LEFT a duty as dps to return as tank...

More often than not queuing in a in-progress duty rewards you with these things I have experienced so I don't use it anymore.

A) People trolling the dungeon; had a whole alliance once trolling ST.
B) People that are hopeless and can't complete a simple thing like Titan HM
C) Other manner of trolling or someone being a jackass etc.

Well once you are searching for replacements you aren't allowed to switch classes; otherwise you are free to switch and then look for replacemt. Problem solved.

Solved by not allowing you switch roles once the duty has ended. Any negatives can be circumvented using a variety of measures.

Basically, the swap would only come in to play, when someone leaves the instance and before the replenish ranks message.

Well to sum it up. I think if it was implemented with a vote system and only after someone leaves a group and before a replacement is found?

let me add: before you even search for a replacement to make sure that those two doesnt get into trouble at all (and also to make that feature a bit more obvious - I'd like something like "Search for a replacment or iniate/vote for a role swap" on that little window to pop up.) - you'll search for a replacement after that ofc, but with a bit of luck "just" for a dps not a heal or tank

Yes that's pretty much how i pictuered it. where it would normally pop up saying "replace" it gives you a 2nd option first to vote on a class change, then each person get the option to change class ( first come first served)

It has been few years, but I remember in 2010 World of Warcraft used to have this feature. The players could requeue as a different role while they are in the dungeon. I dont see why FFXIV could not add this option.

Indeed, certainly something that would make the game alot more enjoyable when doing dungeons. Nothing worse than entering an instance Getting half way thought only to have the tank leave, Wait 20 mins.. then leave yourself because noone joins!
