[To Dev] - Request to increase Blacklist Cap

Are there any chances to increase blacklist cap above 200? Perhaps 1000? I know this is not a preventive action for avoiding spammers but it would help to reduce these unnecessary tells.

I would estimate that my list got full in 6 months more or less in our server, but this temporary action can buy time of convenience until this issue is addressed and closed.

Just delete the first half of your list. Characters on banned accounts don't get deleted.

I just wish we had a right-click "report RMT". Not only should this option quickly report a RMT seller, but add the player to the black-list. The current report process is far too lengthy then it should be for reporting these bots.

Thanks Felis, I think ill do that. Just to inquire, those banned accounts may come back sometime in the future, right? Otherwise they would be tagged as (deleted) in my list which was already cleared.

It's a permanent ban. I delete names every now and then from my blacklist and it's currently empty.

My blacklist is always empty, whenever i Blist someone I remove him 2-3 days later since by then that person is either banned or made another character.
There is no reason to increase the cap.
The (Deleted) accounts are not the banned ones, they either moved to another server or deleted that character to make another one.
When SE bans acounts the names stay, as their accounts are just frozen with their characters untouched.

Actually... At least on Midgardsormr the RMT seldom send more than one tell using the same name... So it's essentially pointless to continue to blacklist them.

You could also turn off the sound for tells and filter them out from the chat, unless you really get tells from other real players. Or keep a chat tab for tells only...

A better request would be to let us know when an account we reported on is deleted or not. As it currently stands, I don't know if an RMT account is banned or not. Their name is still in my BL, and I can't tell if they were banned or not.

As other people have said, there's no need to keep these names blacklisted. There are problems with the black list though, namely that there are so many spammers that if you every wanted to black list an actual player you'd have to remember their name and be sure not to delete them from the list. We also need some sort of mass removal system for out black lists. Again, something more than just delete all (which would work for me and a lot of others) since you theoretically do want to keep some players on the list.

You joke, but yeah that would probably be the best solution...The Blacklist, and then the "RMT List", with its own right click menu command and everything...set it up so that if enough people add someone to the RMT list (Maybe do it so its X many in Y many hours) it sends off an auto-report to check in on the guy and their account.

Its not particularly difficult to do but clearing out the blacklist is just another inconvenience on a player whom already has been harassed by this problem. We pay for a service and shouldn't have to be bombarded by advertisements. I know gold selling and whatever scheming ways they go about trying to drum up business within the game is something that will never go away but SE should give us more tools to protect our privacy and peace in good faith. Instant reporting function, white-list only message option, flagging names as banned as mentioned above are some of the things which could help and I wish were made available to us.

As an aside, I find it silly that tells are blocked during certain content such as dungeons to "prevent players from being harassed" yet it seems perfectly acceptable that we be harassed with them doing literally anything else.

They could make it so that accounts that no longer have a subscription show up as (Cancelled) in the social lists. This would help a lot with those bloated blacklists.

I would just prefer to have blacklist categories much like they added to friend list. This would let me blist RMT and clear out that list on a daily basis while maintaining other players on there who are no longer permitted to wipe parties I build through PF much more easily.

Asking for a blacklist increase only postpone the problem ;p
What are you going to do when you blisted 1000 RMT - increase to 2000? 3000?

Just gotta learn to clean out blist regularly - though I haven't gotten many RMT tell on Balmung lately, was really bad before xmas.

On that note, they should make a point to increase the friends list as well, mine has been full for fall too long and it's pretty painful having to go down it to decide who's fit to stay on and who has to get cut.

In FCs you see how long a person has been offline, it would be nice to have that option in LS and FL.
An offline counter would be nice for that, it would make it much easier to see whether those people actually still play or not.

lolz i filled all 200 slots in less then 1month my sub doesnt renew for a few more days and i just had to delete names to make room for the 5 new tells i was getting every hour

I'd really love to have a grouping function for blacklist, the same as we now have for friendlist. That way I could put actual blacklisted characters into groups and leave the RMTs groupless. When I want to delete names off the list, select to show only groupless people, and bam, no accidental removal of people who actually belong on that list :p

I totally agree with you. I apologize for complaining about this issue, but yesterday while watching a cutscene, I had to swtich to message log and check the last messages received to find it an another spam message. Also spammers tend to send long messages that would consume most of display window which may force you to maximize the log window and view message history when needed. Even tho tagging RMT messages is an excellent idea suggested by many but to optimize a service is when there is less input made by the end-user. When we block spammers we are contributing to enforcing SE policies which is acceptable up to a certain extent, but to dedicate time to clean a blacklist and start all over again can be time consuming and inconvinient. I will try this today through my PS3 console and will see how long it will take to clean up a full blacklist (considering the confirmation message for each account).

If anyone have information of specific macros for such actions, please do mention.

I was also thinking that these spammers may also be SE customers. I believe they require to pay for accessing the client which is fine, let SE generate revenue from them while they dont enjoy the game and offer all players a one stop for protecting privacy even with an infinite blacklisting options or optimized blacklisting system. (win-win)

I wouldn't mind a faster way to clear my blacklist, but the Report function should be added in addition to the longer blacklist.

If you don't use /Tell character conig > log window settings > general > scroll down to /Tell Uncheck box > apply

I mean really it is just a RMT communication HUB now really and you can talk to people in /say or Link shell or free company or by your own email box.
If more people shut off their /Tells you'd see them vanish due to when they try to send a tell it is blank for them.

If you do like /tell ask SE to give you a friend only private chat system instead of the /tell system they currently have.

If they begin inviting again they should give us a box option to shut off friends invites.
When ever you want to invite someone as a friend then we can enable or disable when ever we choose.

A right-click report RMT option that puts them on a temporary blacklist that clears itself every ~48 hours would work. It's just to hard to report right now - I mostly play from a console and if I wanted to report one, I'd get two more tells before I finished the report.

If I remember correctly, "an easier way to report players" was something a lot of us asked for, probably during beta, or maybe early on in launch. It's probably one of those things that are high priority to players but devs couldn't care less...

I have often thought that instead of Banning RMT traders, SE should just remove their ability to send tells and not inform them. A short disclaimer could be added to the TOS if needed. That way the RMT traders could continue to pay SE to spam to their hearts content and none of the rest of us would have to see it.

They need players who buy Gil to keep their subscription active, the very same person puts Gil into the cycle which buys another persons items in the market board to keep that person happy and believe he's making a actual profit off a legit player.
That player uses that Gil to buy crafting supply's from others to make them happy so they actually feel like their crafting is meaningful and not a complete waste of time.

Key is to keep their subscribers, I am very against RMT and SPAM but nothing will happen to these guys till down the road after they milked FFXIV for what its worth.
Just like FFXI it took them years upon years to get rid of them and then they add a filter and start banning all these RMT.

I remember these RMT named the redapples and jerrys on bismarck, no matter how many times I have seen people report them through the years nothing happened.
Up until they made all the items rare/ex RMT didn't know how to make Gil anymore so they not like they used to they worn out their welcome and started to get banned left and right.

Though when that fiasco happened with minidragon with the duped bug in nyzule everyone was banned instantly, anyone who didn't know about the bug and just joined the party were banned as well.
I am sure glad I didn't join those raids.

Sure I have seen numbers of how many are banned but you always notice that one little hacker who some how is still around for 3 years and you wonder why he hasnt been caught even after you reported him.
I pay attention but sometimes I don't know what to think, its not my place to say also, though expect the problem not to go away for years.

I mean they could ban all those RMT who are 50 standing next to uldah crystal I am sure they are in every world standing in same spot I seen a ton of them leveling up near the boars in south shroud.

Figure they make a killing off the skins and high exp.

Rather than increase the cap, names attached to banned accounts or which were manually deleted should be automatically removed from everyone's blist.

Auto-removing deleted names would be a bad, bad idea. Example:
- You blacklist some jerk.
- He figures out you've got him blacklisted, but he still wants to troll you.
- He deletes his account, then restores it.
- He is now off your blacklist. Whoops!

I see less danger from auto-removing banned names, but I acknowledge that there may be a danger I just don't see.

Regardless, there are two things I'd like SE to do to improve blacklist functionality:
1. Make blacklists easier to "clean" - it's a tedious process, right now, selecting each name one by one, selecting remove, and then confirming that remove. I'd like to be able to, for instance, checkbox a bunch of names at once, and then do ONE remove and confirm.
2. Indicate, somehow, the reason why you blacklisted someone. While I've yet to find an actual player in-game annoying enough that I felt the need to blacklist them, if I ever did that name would be LOST among the sea of RMTs I blacklist. It would be tough to remember which names are people who are actual active players, and not RMT that were most likely banned in less than a day.

I don't think that the SIZE of the Blacklist needs to be changed at all. 200 names is PLENTY - if any player ever reaches 200 names of non-RMT players, that player should probably reevaluate whether they're maybe just a wee bit oversensitive to be playing a social game. XD

It needs to be increased for sure... The amount of rmt activity is insane right now on Ultros. I can get 12 tells in minutes sometimes from different rmt's .. Last night I got a tell from the same rmt like 8 times in a row each time from a from different account. I could fill up my black list in a few days. I dont think all servers are the same but our server is really bad right now. I bet we average a tell every 5 minutes...

And then you re-blist them. There's nothing stopping someone bored or determined enough to do that from rolling max alts on a server to begin with, if they want to chain-pester you. Even assuming that they could stand to drag themselves through the opening CSes over and over again just for that, and that having to repeatedly blist someone was enough to be the most horrible event of your life, they could alter blisting to be an account-level thing where you don't see interaction from any character under an account you've blocked a character from. Add in something like an icon next to a name that's been deleted(and maybe darken the name) to denote that the character is gone but the account is still active.

We don't even have to get that fancy though. The RMT action notices come alongside a patch of some sort, generally(if not always). Part of the patch could simply be an RMT account list, and once the main game client launches it processes your blist to clean out all the cruft.

What about disabling gil trading? I know this can be a bad idea for others (just an idea tho). Think about how often do you trade gils. I spend 3 years in the game and never remembered sending a gil, items yes plenty but I work for myself while enjoying the game. This would also cut down some incidents which I heard of, such as paying to get a party.

I'm not talking about starting a new account from scratch. Deleting an account does not destroy it. If you delete your account, you can restore it to exactly the way it was before. No lost levels or items, no starting over from scratch with opening cutscenes. SE WANTS you to come back to the game, so they've made it VERY easy to change your mind if you decide to quit.

The point about trolling from alts is a good one, though. SE should definitely make it an option to blacklist a player's entire account, not just the specific name. Even in the worst case, though, you'd have to blacklist an individual at most eight times under the current system (presuming that they don't own multiple accounts). If deleted accounts were easy to remove from your target's blist, it would never end until your harasser became bored, or the GMs finally dealt with it.

And, to be honest, deleted accounts really aren't the main problem here. As someone who's only ever blisted RMT, I'd say that less than ten percent of those accounts wind up Deleted, rather than banned. Cleaning up deleted accounts isn't a big deal. Cleaning up banned accounts, though, is currently quite aggravating.
