FF XIV Lame events

Someone else think FFXIV events are lame and completly un-original... lifeless? Its like its always the same... do some stuff a few times to colect a few things a grab some vanity crap. Ppl can grab everything they want from the event in 1-2 days.

Events are not giving any reason to play... they usually helps mmo to retain players... to entertain besides the eternal gear treadmill... but at least for me are not working at all. X-mast event was too focused on showing a story many of us dont care (and skip) instead of actually making ppl play and new year looks like the same.

Other games build even dungeons for big or seasonal events.. jumping puzzles... scenarios... BIG dinamics events... etc etc. And i am talking bout B2P games :S this its a P2P, we shoul have bether stuff

Well if you don't like the story then you shouldn't play and RPG then.

I think they should make the events a bit more meaty. The daily quests were a nice touch but they could have made each city unique and not the same stone fetch quest. It seems that each year we will get a new story about the same event. I would like it if they expanded upon it each year so each year it gets a little bigger instead of a few quests each year.

Well this its not just a RPG its a MMORPG.. work diferent.

Also i REALLY like FFXIV story.. event moogle delivery quest and side stories... but events are not the same, should not last 20 min... as i said, events should be an option besides the gear treadmill, the usual activities we do. But are not working, noone cares bout it after a few days (1-3 days 15 min each ) and looks sad if u compare it with seasonal events from others MMO

That's exactly why I like these events. I don't like feeling compelled to log on every single day during the holidays just to grind an event, and I suspect there are lots of other players who feel the same way.

Considering how long the PSN has been down during the Christmas event, I'm wishing that every item could be earned in a few hours, rather than over the span of days.

people in this thread is being very aggressive to the OP, while i agree in regards OP not being able to fully enjoy them because of her own fault, she is right about the events, SE could do something bigger, it doesn't have to take days to be completed, but it could be something more fun, an interesting quest, with a seasonal dungeon as part of it, they could use a slightly modified haukke manor for the all saints wake quest, or snow cloak for starlight, with special enemies and drops, something fun, not very hard that would make you want to repeat it, and these instances could come back every year with new drops, story and bosses, they could do trials as well, these would require less work.

And well some event themed weapons would be great.

Fun, sure, but lorewise I highly doubt the demons in Haukke Manor would frolic about decorating the manor with All Saints Wake stuff, or the Harriers setting up Starlight traps in Snowcloak...

that's why i said modified, the idea is not using the dungeon itself, but the materials to build something different, creating new resources for an event dungeon would be a waste of development time, but they can use the existing haukke manor to create a haunted mansion for all saints wake.

I read the story but still find the events dull overall.

If story is just what you're after, just read a novel. FF14 is a game. I agree with what the OP said.

I do agree that the events are stale. The story with the events are extremely dull and... feel sloppily put together. Didn't care much for this winter event since the items were, preeetty similar to last years.

Well lets see, the game is still growing and events should get at least 1 or 2 hits in the future.

I know a couple of events I liked in Final Fantasy XI was twinkling treants and the one where they had mini games shooting the cactuar's and goblins after that the events just were all the same.

Items began to be +1 and then +1 with a latent skill or warp add on or raise partner nothing great and if you were there for a long time it was just the same stuff.

Not sure if serious. I really like the stories with the events. Honestly I wish they did them more like the fireworks and halloween event and less like that easter event.

The easter event was disgustingly awful.

i always think of that christmas event when i hear a game is going to have an event of any kind... they had so many different things going on in that event. the ones i remember are a brand new PvP mode and map, added a thing to the WvW, a jumping puzzle and best of all, there was a arena where you were fighting waves of enemies and trying to complete objectives.
oh, did i say they reskinned the main city in snow? not just added falling snow from the sky, but actually had snow on the ground as well... it was great.
i wish FF could do an event that is even half as good as GW2's were.

Agree with the OP to an extent, events in GW2, for example, are a lot more extensive.

why would you want content that is available for 2 weeks, be a dungeon or other form of content that would otherwise be long-lasting content. It's better to have that man power dedicated to content that stays all the year.

The events on this game are boring. One thing I like in this game's events is that they have their own cutscenes and story but the rewards are boring and annoying. It's always freaking hats. The current Xmas events (both the starlight and heavensturn) reward many items for housing which is cool but then again nope cause many people do not own a house so they could not care less for the rewards. Maybe it's just me but I find those events dull. We could use way better and cooler rewards.

i'm seeing two camps in here.

Those who enjoyed the events in guild wars 2. (which i half did. i find that they're too convoluted and involved most of the time. and i don't think a jumping puzzle makes for a good focus point for an event.)

And those who enjoy something a little simpler. where it's the people you're with that make the event truly worth it. A time of the year where gameplay can take a backseat and community can take over and you can just chill out. (cold pun).

Yes, it is possible that they are. But they have also asked people to get suggestions for good events that can work for everyone.
So if you have a good idea post it then in the suggestion thread.

Keyword is 'everyone'. Not just yourself. Keep that in mind if you want to suggest an idea, OP.

I was pretty disappointed on the easter egg event this year :X

Kill the easter rabbit and steal his easter eggs! was it? Lol

I would have done and expect this:

- no questline with uhm.. sorry to say that - lame storyline :x
- all open world maps(towns too!) has eggs hidden, we can search and collect them! (No dusty rabbits we have to KILL for 1 egg Lol... wasnt it kinda cruel wehad to kill easter egg rabbit?)
- hidden eggs has a respawn time of 5secs (not HOURS like the "Kill the 1 hidden dusty rabbit)
- hidden eggs are in random places (not fixed locations like Hunts targets -> easy to find)
- 20-40 hidden easter eggs per map (depends on how big the map is)
- collected eggs can be turned into different prices in event NPC shop


these are just ideas I just maded in 5mins. o_o

It seems you're describing GW2 events exclusively. You have to bear in mind that GW2 events are pretty much the only content that game ever gets and they're exactly the same every year. The reality is that those events were all made during the game's original development and are simply timed content that only becomes available at certain times of year. The devs put no real effort into it at all when the events come around each year, they just press a button to turn it on.

At least here in FFXIV the event is different every year with a new story that the devs have developed especially for that year. I honestly hope that no dev ever uses GW2 as a model of how to handle content because ANet royally screwed that one up. The season 2 living story is the first real new content that game has seen since release and even then it's laughably small compared to anything this game gets with each update.

GW2's events are great, I admit, but only the first time you do them... after that first year they're the same every time and you wish they'd just put a small bit of effort into actually adding something new that wasn't exclusive to the cash shop.

I think bout building seasonal dungeons (simply by modify adds), jumping puzzles, guildhest, chain Fates (like svara)...

Also i am FC master so i usually buy all the furniture for our house. Only 2 players in my FC owns a house so noone else care bout furniture. Some owns personal rooms but the only indoors furnitures are boxes and a doll...

Also most of the players i know dont glamour gear (i do). Its hard to make mmo players run even to main story... know lots of ilv 110+ (2+ jobs even) players that havent kill normal Levi atm.... so add LONG stories (+ lame hats/furniture) can discourage ppl. Games like Atlantica Online and Wakfu have X-mast/Hallowen worlds/maps open all december.

Some games do "calendar" events giving stuff for loggging every day and something big if u fullly log till dec 24 (these ones are great to motivate ppl to log) - Could give +exp food for example (no 3%) / even a sand of time for final gift.

I liked Shantotto Event event too but was more like a 1 time thing/ also Dragon Quest Event

Lighning Event was ok cuz at least u could get some nice weapon skins / also one of the best male gear skins so far - Ithink has been the best event so far compared to x-mast/hallowen

But they all have something in common... u can get all u want (not much in most cases) in 1 day

Honestly I do agree a little with OP in that the seasonal events are a little dull. What I'd love to see as a reward, especially for christmas is what they did in FFXI, where you could get 3 different INDOOR trees, one from every starter city.

Because right now, all I can get are white trees with either a red, green, gold or blue topper that I can only put outside FC house, so unless you want a forest of trees outside your house if every member in your FC gets 1 (or all) trees, it's just a waste of Green Fallen Stars.

I can't even get any of the other things like Housing ITems (for indoor use) Foods, Gift Bags Armor or the Misc. Items.

I am sick of white trees!
