Looks like PSN is being DDoSed for the holidays. Nothing says Merry Christmas like ruining someone else's fun.

Yea its a shame
I really hope they can come up with a way to keep this from happening so often/easily.
Yea was gonna get up and farm some stuff b4 family came over, but nope! *Sigh* All I want for christmas is a gaming pc lol
Yea, sucks for us PSN players. Didn't even realized it happened since I was at work. I just now tried to log on but to no avail. Guess we'll just have to wait it out >>;

Ah well. I suppose I have other games I gotta catch up on so today would be a good time to do that.
Happened last night before maintenance, happens now before dinner. Ah well, guess someone didn't like getting coal/insert cultural equivalent for Christmas/relevant Holiday.
Don't know if this is a ddos attack, there are how many people that got ps4 for Christmas. That got ps4 games for Christmas , that are all downloading content , how many people streaming games and movies for the holiday on their ps4 . 3 months ago there were 10 million ps4 sold through to customers world wide. And I'm sure this holiday season at least another 2 million have been sold as people want to play with friend and family on the same console. So it could just be Sony servers simply cannot handle the shear amount of people trying to access their servers all at the same time today.
Yep. Gotta love them "hackers". Love how even though they're "Hackers" they seem to be making complete fools of Sony. Probably Xbox too. I dunno if Live is up and running but I know PSN is still down. Been down the whole day so far.
Xbox Live is down too, apparently.
Their lives must be very miserable if they have to screw with the Christmas of so many children that can't play their games today. I know that there's worse things in the world, but come on, it's sad that they have to do this on Christmas day.
I feel bad for you all on the consoles.
This sucks big time. I just turned off my PS3 to go eat with family, I come back to see that I can't log into the PSN. *sigh*....I should of never logged off : (
Yea, this stuff that happens to console FFXIV players kinda hurts when you can't log on to play the game. I know last month it was irritating getting kicked off every few minutes.
Square Enix and Sony NEED to sit down and make some kind of deal that will allow LEGIT PLAYERS to play what they are PAYING for.
It's not acceptable that PS3/4 players can't play the game when PC players do because of some bs authentication design choice.
So annoyingngngngn!!!!
Bs looks like I'm going to have to buy a gaming laptop
Yep, hacktivist get more brazen, our criminal laws are 10 years behind the curve, and we have to suffer for it.
Oddly nintendo is doing fine...
That said, my friends missed their own wedding because of the PSN issues.
This had better to not go on too much longer or my Glazenuts are going to die. What a waste.
I like Merry Shark Day as much as the next channel hopper but today is not so great.
Idk if it a DDOS but it might be the Christmas rush, but since xbox live is down, but battle.net is up I think it more likely a increase of server demand from new users.
Pisses me off. I was going to get married today and he cant log on. SO now im screwed since I heard they nerf your plat bracelets if you miss your slot. If you miss it you cant schedule till after 4 and hyperion has too many people so I wont get a spot for forever, that's what I heard anyway.
Hohoho here is your present! By Sony
The problem with this is Playstation systems require a connection to the PSN servers since you have a Playstation account. For FFXIV we tied our PSN account to our SE account, so in order for us to log in SE needs to check that your SE account is tied to the PSN account. They can't really avoid it, the check needs to be there, otherwise non-PS3/4 copy owners could log onto the game with their PS3/4.
It sucks, but that's how it has to be. I can't think of any workarounds.
$10 PC version from the SE shop. My computer isn't good enough for much, but checking retainers and leveling gathering should be okay.
Can someone explain to me why FFXIV's update screen requires PSN? The game is working perfectly for people already logged in... even if they log out and go back to the login screen. But if the game is closed it won't get past the update screen.
Can't SE find a work-around besides depending on PSN every time the game is launched? If this has already been answered, I apologize... but it baffles me that so much dependency is on PSN when there shouldn't be one.
Just for perspective, the current authentication system may be the result of policy rather than technical constraints. Having seen some of the guidelines that Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE) requires developers to adhere to - for one, you can't close the game, only return to the title screen - I wouldn't be surprised if restrictions on third-party account logins are part of these requirements.
I would love to have the ability to unlink the PSN and SE accounts without support intervention, have the Square Enix ID kept in an local save file so PSN doesn't have to be online to login to FFXIV, or specify another Square Enix ID to be logged into - but something tells me SCE doesn't like those ideas.
What SE needs to do is make it where there is a offline mode to log into FFXIV like steam has.
If some how psn goes down the you can go around and log into the game and SE provides torrent updates on the side.
I was able to log o with PSN app on my phone, but still no luck with PS4.
This is really annoying, and even more so it only hurts the console users. It seems like this happens a few times a month almost now. It would be nice to maybe get a credit for a month or something from Sony since they can't seem to find any way to keep it from happening.
Saw this coming, it was said over a month ago that they were gonna do these attacks through the Christmas season.
This attack was a little bit of an odd one for me because I was on very very early in the morning on the 25th, about 4 AM. I was doing crafting during that time because nothing was going on in the PF, about 6 AM, my PS4 tells me that in 15 minutes the game will be closed because it could not verify the license for the digital content. Only a PS4 problem there too, if I was on the PS3, I wouldn't have that problem. But I have only really played physical copies on my PS3, and XIV was a Physical copy on it in the past as well.
Anyways, I get kicked from XIV by that point, my internet is still working and my laptop is on youtube just fine. If I was allowed to be on during that time because that's how it works when maintenance for PSN or anything works, I would have been able to stay on. But now basically there are two things barring PS4 players from being on this game, and if you dodge one issue, the other one kicks you off.
It's bullcrap and I'm getting tired of these people that would rather be an outright pain in the ass to people who haven't done anything to them, then instead "hack" or cause problems for legitimately evil corporations and entities in the world(I.E. North Korea.)
If you're online when PSN goes down, on PS4, you can't stay on for long because the license check gets you. And if you aren't logged in when maintenance starts, then you can't play at all then either. *sigh*
I am going to be MAD AS HELL if I lose a garden full of expensive crops due to this crap. I already lost several hundred thousand gil worth a week ago because I had the flu and was sick in bed and unable to log in for a full day, and if this crap happens again because I can't log on I blame SE and the ability for certain high value crops to die so quickly as much as I blame Sony.
It's a private house and no one can water them for me.
That seems irrational, at best.
It has nothing to with SE. They programmed the crops a certain way. Deal with it.
And we don't even have any actually information on what is going on with the PSN. It is possible that Sony can't really do anything and they are trying to fix it.
The problem with DDoS attacks is the way it happens.
The only way to 'fix' a DDoS attack is to also block legitimate users. Until we have a way to track each individual connection back through all the addresses theyre falsifying we wont have a way to actually block these kinda of attacks without affecting normal users.
I was able to finally log in just now on my PS4. So I don't know if that means it's up for most, but might want to give it a try for anyone still trying. GL too!
I was able to log in too
Logged in to craft daily stuff, mine, then got off. Not in the mood to do more at these hours.
