Please do something about the Mudra lag!

I know during one of the previous live letters Yoshi said it was not on top of the list of things to do (2.5 and expansion coming up, very understandable) and they would get to it eventually, but the NIN is already here, and in my opinion (for what ever that is worth) it is broken and not in a good way. I really like the NIN class in itself, but the lag on the mudra actions makes it very upsetting to play. This issue is also not just people with high latency either, some people with low ping (50-) have reported the same things.

I have tried just about everything I can think of to alleviate the issue such as changing DNS servers, 3 different proxies (VYPR, WTFast and battleping), and I just cannot seem to get rid of the problem. I am not saying it is entirely on SE, because some people do indeed have lag issues, but I cannot think of any other ways I myself can remedy the problem.

I do not know if it would require a complete overhaul of the mudra system, or just some tweaks in the way the server accepts packets, but can we please have this issue revisited?

This has been a problems for Monks like myself who have attempted to macro every position ability to the same key since launch.

I stopped doing that when I realized it would likely never be fixed.

What is Mundra lag? Can you please explain how it's lagging?

Sadly Ninja has no luck with this. Manual input spikes around even on good connection. One cast it's fast next is so slow I screw the mudra up.

I do 3-hit mudras in 2-2 way.
First->Second -> Wait for Second to be mid-cast -> Third->Finisher.
While I may be losing 1/4-th of second, at least my mudras never fail.

Mudras don't always (or ever honestly) go off at the same time. They are supposed to be a .5 second, but most times its between .75-1.5 seconds. And the real problem is it is NEVER consistent. If it was always 1.5 I could manage this. But usually it is .75 on one then 1.0 on another then .75 on the last, making the combination incredibly hard to hit in the GCD as it was intended to be done.

Yoshi P's answer was incredibly dismissive and pissed me off quite a bit. It's not all on our, the users, end. SE's servers are crap and they should know better than to create a class that requires servers that are actually working well.

This isn't even something unique to Mudra, it's simply more noticeable with Mudra.

I've had plenty of instances on Monk where my combo gets interrupted because, for example, I hit Twin Snakes and the animation goes half off before deciding I didn't actually hit it. Same thing happens with abilities too, I'll be weaving Jumps between GCDs and I'll go up before returning to my original place with the game telling me "No, sorry, you didn't actually use Jump".

Yeah, the mudra lag is pretty bad at times. I've also regular ability lag too... combos that never follow through. Bunny ears really lowers the dps output.

The mudra lag really makes NIN unreliable as it can screw up and give you a 20 sec where you don't have Huton up and you don't even gain anything. I've had times where I did the mudras for Suiton but ended up with the first half of the animation being a raiton meaning I performed it right but then it says error that ninjutsu didn't activate and I've already started the other skills so i get a nice rabbit on top of my head instead of the suiton it was supposed to be.

A temporary solution would be to just implement a shorter cooldown if you mess up a combo -- like 5 seconds or something -- instead of it sharing the same 20 seconds whether you make the combo or beef it.

Mudras simply need to become active the second you press the button and not on an animation delay. That's the main problem this lag issue keeps cropping up. You see it in skills like Benediction, Hallowed Ground, and even positional attacks on melee DPS as well.

I've had times in the same fight where I'll have super smooth mudra input where I just tap all 3 in the order I need with very little time between them (since you can queue them the same was as other skills) and you'll see the circular cooldown animation on the icons never pauses so I can do it within one GCD, and then the next time I go to use ninjutsu there's a half second pause between activations, which really slows everything down. It would be nice if the dev team could fix it.

I'm glad I'm not the only feeling this way about the mudra. I think I'll give up nin for now, it was my intention to make it my main. But whenever that mudra screws up because I use the mudra too fast, even after I heard the last ding. Reeeaallllyyy ticks me off! I'd be more subtle with my hate towards it if I was able to use my weapon skills in between mudra. But no. Guess I'll wait for the new jobs and see how messed up they are.

My main fear is the addition of a 4th mudra, or any more mudra combinations in general being added in the expansion, without the current issue being addressed.

So that's what it's called when I hit, say, my Shoulder Tackle and I hear the ability's sound but nothing happens?

That is typically from when a mob is moving. You use shoulder tackle, move to the mob, but no damage is dealt nor is the stun applied, but it doesn't go on CD. Yay free movement?

I play on PS4 and I came upon another Ninja on the PC, and I saw how quickly he could put those mudras together and I tried to do them as fast but it wouldn't let me even attempt it cause of the cooldown.

While i like the idea of mudras since it really feels like your casting the spell, they implemented it so bad they should just remove it. If the actions cannot be done with a reasonable reliability, then they should just cast the ninjitsu the way that all other spells are cast.

Agreed, just give us a CD to use them. lol

They should separate the cooldowns between the mudra and the ninjutsu buttons. Then let the mudras be weavable between gcds. Then ninjas can prepare their ninjutsus 3 gcds or so ahead and weave in the ninjutsu on the next gcd. Mudra combination can reset if you use 2gcds without weaving in mudras in case you decide to use a different ninjutsu and need to restart.

Ninjutsu right now is like classic hunting horn in monster hunter. It needs to be like current hunting horn.

Mudra (Jin/Chi/Ten) are supposed to all be instant cast, no cooldown abilities. Of course it still needs to activate, so you'll see the Mudra skill icons flash for about 0.5 (or less) seconds. That is how fast Mudra SHOULD combine (a click every time you see the skill icon as available). However, in most scenarios, because of server latency or other similar issues, it is entirely inconsistent in how fast or slow it allows you to click the next Mudra in your combination. Further, any actual server issues or internet problems completely impair your ability to play the Job, due to resetting of Mudra/even more inconsistent timing problems.

Yea seriously I was looking forward to nin since 2.1 when I first saw fuma set in CT. Then I notice the inconsistency with which these mudra activate. Then I notice how everything falls to s**t if I have any internet lag b/c of the way mudra is designed(hitting huton but seeing it not activate while u hit next wpn skill and then get rabbit). Really making me like the class less and less. Mudra feel like a chore rather than a rewarding aspect of the class.

Recently travelled to the US and had a connection of less than 50 ping. My mudra speeds were similar to those I had in Europe.

Seems like the way to do it would be to handle them entirely client-side, then when you activate the whole thing the game sends just the appropriate ability.

I'm in Japan and my latency is sub 50 myself. Pre 2.45 my mudra casts were fluid as can be but when 2.45 came around they went down the drain. Best work around I have at the moment is using wtfast which helps a tiny bit but most times in dungeons there's a distinct delay which is oddly missing for the most part outside of the instanced servers.

The fastest my mudras ever went was in patch 2.4 before the first hotfix. After that it seems to just remain unstable.

Wow...just wow.

I like the idea, but i think they should have just let us use them like normal skills or spells. I mean i just got NIN to 40. Just putting in the ones ive unlocked so far is a hit or miss if i put them in too fast.

Yeah, having to wait to see if the mudra registers can slow down my DPs somewhat. Its especially bad in ct/st and to a lesser extent in FL for me

Agreed, the only thing that should be server side is the activation, a .1 second delay on that isnt that important, but while chaining your Mudra's it can mess you up.
