Dat Lilty.
Did they say what the release time frame would be? I could swear I heard it would be around 3.0 but wanted to confirm.
The directx11 bucket XD hahaha, dying about that.
I love the shine on the wood floors and the water is very pretty. No game-changing resolutions like they were up front about it, but it'll be something nice to look forward to when the time comes.

Looks amazing! I'm really looking forward to this graphical update. *considering a new 780ti*
I'm just wanting more usage of my gpu and less of my cpu. It would help out us that use multi-monitors and multi-tasking.
Hard to tell from pixelated video but sadly looks like we wont be getting any kind of texture resolution bump.
Any word if the DX11 is going to address the unusual memory leak on AMDs. Just about anyone with any version of a AMD GFX card inevitably experiences a huge lag spikes, and usually once its over textures and stuff are missing. Even whole body parts are gone. This was way more evident when hunts were big news to people, lots of people experienced issues then. But not too much anymore, sense hunts aren't popular anymore. It still happens just not as often.
Isn't directx an Nvidia only thing?
All of the technobabble pertaining to graphics hardware/software goes over my head. All I know is that the DX11 client is sure gonna be pretty.
Personally I'm a tad worried about the DX11 client's reliance on nVidia's Gameworks and how it will affect AMD cards.
Overall visually they are some nice improvements. Nothing groundbreaking though - as I was expecting when I heard there would be new lighting.[1] But that said, the game currently already looks pretty good.
A little disappointed too there aren't better AA options. FXAA ... you will get used to it but SMAA T2x (like they use in Infamous: Second Son) would be nice.
[1] Was kind of expecting more accurate physically based lighting.
Actually DirectX is a graphics Application Program Interface (API).
Basically it's a standardized method of talking to different GPUs, so games can be written once and run on any DX compliant GPU - in theory.
Nothing is "free" of course, there are downsides to abstractions such as this, mainly that it saps performance. This is why consoles despite having weaker hardware can look as good they do, as they use a much lower level API designed specifically just for their hardware.
Aww to no textures, I swear once they said they were working on decompressing and examining some textures and while it was an arduous process they were at it and then a month later they were like 'nope'.
Other changes are nice though, the little things can add up (zoomed out quick shots may be hard but large screen slow passing eyes can mean a lot). Improvement is an improvement, so yay :D.
It will be fun to revisit some locations after this just to see the changes (beaches, marble Ul'Dah maybe, Limsa stone walls?).
It's not an engine, you're confusing terminology.
DirectX is an API, essentially like a library that you can reference from or pull bits and pieces from.
It essentially houses various libraries of things you can pull from for; Sounds/Graphics/General Processing
They never said it would go hand-in-hand, but that they were simply looking into whether it was feasible or not.
The armour hasn't changed much.
Texture were compressed, metallic surfaces don't use the same shader (often) anymore.
The actual form of the gear is exactly the same.
The lighting system used in ARR isn't as "Aggressive/Strong", that's why you don't get quite as much detail as you did in 1.0, the normal/bump mapping doesn't' come out quite as strongly as it did before.
This is also partially due to the textures being compressed more-so than before in some areas.
1.0's lighting system in some ways was arguable more realistic, it was also inherently flawed, buggy and in most places looked down-right terrible.
However for ARR to replicate that using the current system would be incredibly intensive on most computers.

Is DX11 gonna make the armor like back when the game first came out?
I'm more concerned about how much of a performance boost I'll get from this.
I want a performance boost. It irritates me that I have a GPU that crushes this game and it the title still isn't optimized for my card.
We *should* see a boost. If not, they've done something different than other companies in the past...
I'm not even top tier gpu, but my 960 cuda cores beg for usage.
I really do hope in the future they decide to release the high resolution textures for those of us who can make use of them. I get the compression for memory limitatons on consols and older systems but come on.
I'm concerned about the client using Nvidia GameWorks. This has crippled AMD videocard users in the past with other games.
Honestly, this game needs better textures badly. Many textures are pathetic and atrocious. If this game could be modded like games on Nexus, then FFXIV could become a great looking game. Console needs to stop holding back the PC players. They need to let PC upgrade graphics as PCs allow.
Me too. Big names in the gaming industry have spoken out against Gameworks (John Kloetzli - Firaxis, Bart Wronski & Michal Drobot - Ubisoft Montreal, Timothy Lottes *an ex-nVidia employee*- Epic, Johan Andersson - DICE) and there is flat out proof that the platform favours Nvidia cards because AMD are unable to access the source.
Because of how minimal these changes look, I think it won't be much of a problem. However I would be a lot more comfortable with them choosing an open platform to allow myself and the other 40% of the GPU market to get the most out of their systems in this game for the foreseeable future.
I'm looking forward to it!
Silly question, but will the PS4 get any enhancements? Or is it just for PC?
This is a lie. AMD has full access to game code. They are literally making up excuses.
It's amazing how often this lie keeps getting repeated over and over again, despite being debunked MONTHS ago. Shows you how little critical thought people put into these statements.Quote:
Nvidia’s Cebenoyan responded directly to this during our conversation: “I’ve heard that before from AMD and it’s a little mysterious to me. We don’t and we never have restricted anyone from getting access as part of our agreements. Not with Watch Dogs and not with any other titles. Our agreements focus on interesting things we’re going to do together to improve the experience for all PC gamers and of course for Nvidia customers. We don’t have anything in there restricting anyone from accessing source code or binaries. Developers are free to give builds out to whoever they want. It’s their product.”
Seeking some clarification, I asked if perhaps AMD’s concern was that they’re not allowed to see the game’s source code. Cebenoyan says that a game’s source code isn’t necessary to perform driver optimization. “Thousands of games get released, but we don’t need to look at that source code,” he says. “Most developers don’t give you the source code. You don’t need source code of the game itself to do optimization for those games. AMD’s been saying for awhile that without access to the source code it’s impossible to optimize. That’s crazy.”
I want to know when the game is going to look like this.

Half past never. That UI looks pretty awful.
