Can we have a 'vanity' equipment slot?

If adding new beards/tattoos & the like are so difficult... and you continue going the route of giving us new staches/tattoos in the form of equips (which they've confirmed are too difficult & will go this route)...

How about give us a vanity equipment slot?

Like, I'd love to equip the "False Moustache" & new Sugarloaf Hat at the same time.

Of course, certain equipment would overwrite such choices.

Say Body Tattoos were 'equippable', armors that cover your skin entirely would prevent the rendering of such a body tattoo but ones that showed a lot of skin wouldn't.

They've said this both indirectly and directly over and over for the past year whenever someone asks about additional slots for stuff, from the tacklebox, to a shared bank, to additional armoury space...
They can't. The characters are too bloated as they are, any introducing more space to be able to accommodate these spaces would cause problems for those on older PCs and the PS3.
So, yes, PS3 limitations. Again.

you are asking for another "equipment" slot while ignoring the reason why it isnt/hasnt happened. your request would increase chr data size, and in turn, increase server load.

They didn't say anything about PS3 limitations. The issue is server space from character data.

Indeed, and to explain why this is such a huge concern in this game but not others, consider for a moment that we have 20 different classes we can switch between with their own stats and abilities. We also have 335 armoury chest slots in addition to 100 regular inventory slots on top of the 175 inventory slots on each of our 2 default retainers. Also factor in the graphic complexity of each and every character and you have some surprisingly huge characters in comparison to games where one character has one class.

There's some PS3 limitations in there too, though. At least as far as the reason we don't have more doohickeys showing on our character, or why they technically had to downgrade the graphics quality between 1.0 and 2.0 (though I personally see it more as streamlining, but that's just me)

Servers are being upgraded for Heavensward, they've confirmed more available Character Data for the expansion.

Please, don't insult me so much about 'doing my research' when you clearly haven't done your own.

Probably should have lead off with something along the lines of "with the coming server updates and character data increase stated to be in the expansion, would you please add a vanity slot?" Regardless of what knowledge of the game the responders may or may not have had, nothing in your post suggested you meant in the expansion, beyond it's impending release.

Just because they're upgraded character data doesn't mean they're able/willing to add the vanity slots you want, though. The most they'll do is add it so you can assign glamours based on Gear Set List rather than the item itself.
It would in fact be easier to actually add a "face" and "back" slot for items, that would actually end up getting used for things such as capes, fake mustaches, and masks. And for tattoos it would be easier to add them as an option on the aesthetician than to add an item slot just for them unless, again, it conferred a bonus of some sort. Which IS possible.
However, slots JUST for vanity seem like a waste of resources.

I'm not assuming they are... your words act like I don't know that; this' a REQUEST, it can be denied just fine if they're unable/unwilling.

I understand that the reason we dont have a vanity slot is, because of server space. Can someone explain to me, why they cant make the new beard something like a hairstyle?

People here spout PS3 limitations and forget that some things they assume are PS3 limitations FFXI, a PS2 MMORPG, did years ago. SE wants to keep our load times down as much as possible. So yeah, nothing to do with the PS3.

(Btw most of you asked for a transmog system and instead of doing that they went with an alternate system suited more for this game.)

Games that are way older handle vanity in a different set of equipment slots. Why? So that you don't have to endure ugly armour just because whatever you glamoured over it does not show on a different class on your character. FFXIV is supposed to be a top game but they still need to catch up to games 5 years + in this regard.

For the increased character data, of course it would be increased, we are getting 2 more classes with everything that they include. It would be great to see a real vanity system but if this ever happens, please don't make it unlock at lvl 60 only.

It's also because the assets for 5 year old games occupy less space and have less drag on the system than modern games. Just consider how much detail is actually in our character's eyes, or how hats can sometimes have different interactions with your head based on your hairstyle. Older games can't really do that, either going the "bald hat" route or having a set hairstyle for each hat. FFXI has more options, but at the same time it's a far older and less detailed game. Remember that the detail in FFXIV is such that our clothes get WET.

As I have pointed out in many posts before, the limitations they are talking about are most likely due to sloppy programming or ps3 limits.

Guild wars 2 has a storage slot for every single crafting item, minion and equipment skin in he game. Additionally personal inventory of something like 150 slots plus bank tabs. All bank tabs and inventory can be shown simultaneously. You can also preview several items at the same time.
...and that game is not any per month.
