Question of a new player about MP-regeneration

Hello all together,

ich tried searching for some informations about it, but wasnt succesful, so i ask you.

Can anyone explain to me how the mp-regeneration in FFXIV is working and wich options i have to differ the regeneration over all.

There are various forms of MP regeneration, so let's start with the most basic one:

Natural MP regeneration
The natural MP you recovery every 3 seconds is 6% of your max MP out of combat. So if you have 1000 MP, you get 60 MP every 3 seconds.
However, if you are in combat, your natural MP recovery is reduced from 6% to 2%. So with the same MP pool of 1000 MP, you only get 20 MP back every 3 seconds.

Aside from that, there are also abilities that recovers MP:

Shroud of Saints
Shroud of Saints is a White Mage ability that recovers 1060 MP regardless of your MP pool or other stats. When used it will give you back 1060 MP spread over 15 seconds or 212 MP every 3 seconds.

Aetherflow
Aetherflow is a scholar ability that recovers 20% of your maximum MP

Energy Drain
Energy Drain recovers 266 MP for each stack used. It's always 266 MP regardless of your stats, cleric's stance, damage dealt or weapon damage.

As a bonus, here's some additional information regarding piety and mp:
White Mage MP formula: max MP = 7,9033piety + 1594,6
Scholar MP formula: max MP = 7,5677piety + 1530,5

There's also the thing about Mage Ballad. I have no exact numbers for those, sadly

Under normal circumstances, you should get a small amount back every couple of seconds or so regardless of class or job. Bards manasong increases the amount you get back but I don't think it shortens the duration between ticks. Black mages have their umbral ice that can replenish their mp quickly, but again, the duration between ticks is the same. I hope this helps answer your question.

From what I have read MP regenerates at a speed of 6% every 3 seconds when out of combat, and 2% every 3 seconds while in combat. I think.

And what do you mean by differ the regeneration? You can use potions to restore a % depending on the strength of the potion, or you could increase your Piety which would increase your max MP thus increasing how much MP you regen every 3 seconds. Other than that Scholars have Aetherflow and Energy Drain, and WHM have Shroud of Saints. I'm not sure what else to tell you about it.

EDIT: Oh, and Bards can help regen MP faster with a Ballad.

Once you'll be over 4800-5000mp, wont have to worry a lot about mp anymore.

Aetherflow and Energy Drain are also Summoner abilities too (they are skills off the base class Arcanist)

Quite right! The only time I might run out of MP, that I've experienced, is solo healing EX primals.
In practicum on AK speed runs (at 4972 MP) I can Holy, (sc)SS, regen, Holy 3-4 times, Cii, and have full or nearly full MP before the next big group of mobs. No problem.

i will test this after i reached max lvl. atm i've put all points in mind.

by wich ratio do mind effect the healed amount?

You may find Turn 9 and onward the fights are an exercise in MP frugality. It's the name of the game for WHM. However, when i solo heal EX Primals i make sure the bard knows if they're singing anything it better be Mage's Ballad. :)

OP, in endgame proper MP management is key, there simply isn't room to waste. Always try to make the most of what you have, Cure I until Freecure, Cure III's on Overcure. Shroud of Saints is your lifeline. X-Ethers because every little bit helps. This advice of course is pertaining to high tier content. If you're just running dungeons it's not an issue. Proper Shroud use and breaks in between mobs is how you'll regain MP. You can even dps all you want.

Hmmm having healed t9 quite a few times now(pre nerf even)(though never passed the adds so far) as WHM never had a MP issue if I did stuff correctly and poped shroud at my usual spots. But I do know a whm that is doing fcob and mentioned that he is getting minor mana issues.

Not true. Shroud does indeed regen a flat amount of mana.

Right, so as this became a topic now. I, once again, did some comparison with the High Allagan Crook (77 Magic Damage) against Maple Wand (11 Magic Damage). Same gear, just different weapon. This lead to the following:
Natural MP regeneration without shroud out of combat:
Crook: 318 mp/3 seconds or 1590 mp/15 seconds
Wand: 307 mp/3 seconds or 1535 mp/15 seconds

With shroud this lead to:
Crook: 530 mp/3 seconds or 2650 mp/15 seconds
Wand: 519 mp/3 seconds or 2595 mp/15 seconds

After extracting the natural MP recovery, this leaves only the shroud recovery:
Crook: 212 mp/3 seconds or 1060 mp/15 seconds
Wand: 212 mp/3 seconds or 1060 mp/15 seconds

So yes, I was wrong by 30 mp, my bad.

Now, how I did this: I switched to a crafting class and switched back to White Mage. This will make you start with 0 MP. Keep an eye out on the ticks and note them down somewhere. Use the first mp tick as reference point (zero point) and use shroud then and start timing. Shroud has it's own interval, but if you assume the 3s natural MP regen tick, you can subtract the natural MP regen from it from the total amount of MP recovered after 3 seconds. To find out the natural MP regen, both math as well as noting down the initial MP tick will do.

There's some rocket science math involved for this, Cyclee. So no one can really give you a solid answer here. There are some existing formula out there on the internet, but most of them are outdated.
You can go by a certain rule of thumb, however. Although it's slightly inaccurate, it will give you a general idea.
If you have a i115 weapon and you're level 50:
5 mind = +10 hp/400 potency or +15 hp/600 potency = 25 determination
How mind and determination scales varies with the magic damage value on your weapon.

There's also the thing about crit, which is roughly 13-14 crit for a +1% increase. So this means that 13-14 crit will increase your average healing per cure by +0,5% - But this isn't very reliable or should be relied upon.
