Why Garuda is applied to melee accuracy?

I cant understand it. Garuda is caster, Ifrit is melee. But garuda is applied melee accuracy now.
So SMN need more accuracy ~20 than BLM. This is connected with a bit dps loss.
And now in 2.4 most of ironworks and dreadwyrm have too many Spellspeed. Known stat weights as follows:

BLM WD: 6.625; INT: 1; CRT: 0.215; DET: 0.283; SS: 0.24

SMN WD: 6.57; INT: 1; CRT: 0.211; DET: 0.283; SS: 0.094

BLM is OK. But SS is really useless for SMN. I replaced SS with Piety, use 110HQ melding to solve SMN's MP issue.
24 piety give me that dummy battle timers increasing 5min -> 6min.
Why Garuda is only applied SMN's Acc?
I think that SS apply to SMN's Pet. Then SMN's SS is more efficiency than now.

the BIS pieces for SMN have more than enough ACC so there is no need to complain about it.
Yes it is silly for a caster pet to use melee acc cap, but meh.

Saying it's just "meh" is vastly underselling the point. In current endgame, SMN is the least valuable, and the reasons why are pretty baffling design choices.

By the way, did you realize the BiS pieces are only the BiS because they give you enough ACC? You would have different BiS if you could hit a lower ACC cap. Also, SS is useless, and even counter-productive. Current endgame caster gear is not a help to SMN. That plus the baffling design choices make it pretty lame.

It's also mind blowing that SE is so against having a dps meter in the game, then add junk gear to make sure you farm both poetics and Final Coil, and then give you no tool to discern which gear is junk. Thanks, SE!

Still have 523 crit, 320 det, which isnt bad at all, on top of the increased int/vit/ weapon dmg. Ofc, spell speed on smn weapon always makes me laugh, but the final coil book is the strongest book and certainly is a help. It's not that bad(outside of weap, that's just cruel lol). SMNs beat final coil too.

As for OP, b/c reasons.

Garuda's damage are physical, so her attacks are ruled by physical (not melee) accuracy cap, for example if you try to auto-attack with your smn/blm, you'll have some misses until you're capped !
Btw the Bard is ruled by front/flank/back accuracy rules, and it's probably the same with garuda, so try to keep her at the back of the boss and you'll probably miss less.

Oh, and do you know if she only misses her "basic attacks" or her Contagion can miss too?

then you should to delete T13 gear in ur mind.
as a result SMN's pre-Bis is http://goo.gl/CpU8j8 till T12.
you can see 6 pieces SS gears and SS gonna the sky.
it is clear that IL close to 130, gap with another caster 'BLM' is increased.
yes, right. that Dreadwyrm Book is great. but next? after u get it, what will you do?
we are waiting to new contents in next spring. but level cap increase to 60, so u can use that great book to just leveling.

I think relic weapon is still better than Dreadwyrm even if you lose one weapon damage.

You lose 2 weapon damage, and no it is not better.

CRIT .211
DET .283

Dreadwyrm: 11.183(crit)+57(int)+13.14(2 extra WD)=81.323 int total

Relic: 10.339(crit)+51(int)+10.188(det)=71.527 int total

I did not even calculate the spell speed into the dreadwyrm book to prove a point. Do not underestimate weapon damage or base stats in the from the upgrade.

Relic weapon is 80 weapon damage and poetic is 81 and does not give u crit.

EDIT: I just noticed we are talking about 135 weapon that is 2 weapon damage better than relic .. I agree that weapon is better. Just messed up. I mean relic is better than 130 poetic weapon.

garudas attack is not physical. it gets boosted by foes.

This is correct, doesn't matter for the accuracy cap though. As an example, nin's raiton is considered magical damage and boosted by foes, but it can still miss from the flank/front if you only reach the rear acc cap.

The 'damage type' has nothing to do with acc cap needed, but as long as something is a 'cast' or 'spell', only rear cap matters. For everything else, you'll need the proper acc cap for whichever direction you're hitting from.

the accuracy cap for casters is lower than flank/rear. smn itself falls under the caster cap, but because pets are set at flank cap, they require more accuracy simply because they have a pet.

Uhm, yes, basically picks up exactly what I said? :)

But still, this is only partially correct. The caster cap is not lower than rear, because it is exactly this: the rear cap. This is because 'casts/spells' are considered hitting from the back, no matter which side their hitting from. This doesn't affeckt garuda's auto attack though, because even though it's magical damage, it's an auto attack, not a 'magic spell'. This may be dumb and put smn's at a disadvantage in terms of gear choices (not that they aren't bad enough already in this patch lol), but it is the reason why they need flank cap for garuda.
