Hoping that cash shop trading = bye bye RMT spammers!

Now that you can buy Eternal Bond bracelets with real money and then trade them for in-game currency...

Hopefully this means less RMT spam!

Say what you will about SE enabling the indirect purchase of gil, but THOSE messages are much more immersion-breaking than some vanity paywall.

Nope, if anything it'll just encourage people to flock to the RMT because the prices people are expecting to get for their cash shop items is so high that only people that buy from RMT's will be able to afford it. Thus some absurd logic loop of doom begins.

The cash shop isn't going anywhere as long as it makes money.

Other games have done this sort of thing before with mixed success. Usually it does help curtail spam a fair bit though. With a safe alternative to the spammers, people who were going to buy gil anyway will probably buy from the safe and legal venue. Even if only a few did (more than a few will) it would eat into gold-spammer profits enough that you'll see less.

Solution is SE becomes the RMT through making cash shop items tradeable, instantly stops most whining about the cash shop as well because everything in it can be bought in game.

Hell all those people who reckon the cash shop is a good thing because it means more money for SE should be happy with this. If items can be bought as gifts then more items will be sold, if items can be exchanged for gil it cuts into RMT profits, every cash item in the game was bought by someone at some point so no cash shop money is lost but everyone can theoretically get them and finally no amount of gil can get you proper end game gear so it doesn't really qualify as p2w.

Wait, am I missing something? What do you mean the bracelets are sellable? I haven't looked into it yet (or even logged on today), but can they be put up on the market board or something?

We can always go the Tera route and have trade able game time.

Don't remember how well it worked in Tera though...

Krisan, the bracelets cannot be put up on the Market Board, but players can post ads in Party Finder and then trade them directly.

Considering the price to BUY the damn things, the gil return would need to be fairly high to add incentive toward this.

On my server it sells for 5 million... You can only trade 1 million at the time so there is a huge risk factor here

I don't see a lot of people biting for this then? $10-20 for 1 million doesn't seem worth it to me, and anything more is scam potential.

So.. I use to be on Exodus, Got spammed all the time with RMT. Im on Tonberry now, And have been for well over a year and can't remember even being spammed once... Never been an issue, and I assumed that RMT wasn't really a problem anymore.... So is this a US server thing...? Or have I just been lucky to never see it..?

Well, this was before Tera went f2p. If I recall correctly, it went well but yeahhh. Dunno how well it would work here. It sounds like a good plan...on paper at least

Has been playing TERA for quite some time on and off, never get any RMT spam at this point and I'm on the busiest PvE server.

Yeah no, RMT virtually has nothing to do with jacksquat and is infact hurting from being able to sell Cash Shop items.

Risk of getting banned (RMT buying) vs no risk of getting banned (direct buying from SE) If a player is gonna delve more real money into a game, which option would someone prefer?

Yup they are run by AI and they will alway sell cheaper then the player can go with so one way of another is the player fault for this to happen.

RMT are now directly competing with SE for that extra bit of money that both RMT and SE know the players have. If anything I can see them becoming more aggressive, offering "better" deals @___@;

RMT will stay. They will just undercut whatever $ -> Gil ratio people who do RMT through Cash Shop items do. You could literally buy gold on Guild Wars 2, RMT were still there, and they just gave you a better rate than the official in-game services did. If anything, it just encouraged people to RMT more as there was means to do it "legally" do, and once they made the step into RMT, they were happy enough to make the step over to some dodgier places to get better rates.

If someone wants to sell but there are no buyers, prices will have to drop until a buyer is found. Not only that, but as mentioned, RMTs will have no problem in competing for a better £/€/$ : Gil ratio because it's their job. Sure, SE could just lower the price, but why bother? People are going to buy it anyway to either sell on or for personal use.

On top of that, buying the gil over the bracelet leaves you still with the freedom to spend the gil on what you wish should there be any left over. Don't get me wrong though, I am not implying that everyone is buying from RMTs in order to purchase these via gil, but encouraging large sums of gil to be circulated around the economy....there's no way all of that gill will be legitimate. It's not even just the bracelet either, the new dyes are being sold too.

I don't see the point in adding it with Parenthesis considering that otherwise, everyone wins and RMT loses. People have a way to sell Cash Shop items, economy doesn't get flooded with false money and the "danger" of having people be forced to buy from RMTs(that's rich right there) to afford them is pretty crappy considering that if enough people are buying, that would increase more demand, which would also introduce price cutting so people can get money faster etc, etc till it's virtually worthless.

I'll have people know that I bought two Platinum bracelets today for 4mil each. So, the person who paid real life money paid a considerably higher amount of real life currency: gil compared to what RMTs offer. It's cheaper to buy the gil and then trade for the in-game items.

Also from the spam I get, the gil to $$$ exchange rate is waaaaay higher than what the eternal bond stuff trade rate is. Only thing you get in return is the safety that you won't get banned.
