"Shut up and take my likes"
When people are content, they do not post. You can tell how content players are by how much complaining happens from patch to patch. Heck compare when atma came out (only 3 threads or so for a few weeks?) to when the cash shop stuff came out (like 7-10 threads and it's been going on how long?).
It's true. I'm at over 30 pointless dramas in my drama collection thread!
Well that's what happens when you look at a group of several different people as one body.
People whoaren't happy are louder than those who are. Likely because the people who aren't unhappy are probably playing the game they are happy with.
The thing is, how many active users are on the forums, maybe 200 or so? 500? If 10% of them hate a patch, despise it with a passion, they'll comment a lot on it. So SE scrambles and does something to soften the blow, and now that 10% is happy.
So what happens next? 30% of the other ones NOW are unhappy because THEY were happy before and now aren't. Of course the forums are going to be filled with complaining, you cannot make a game that actively tries to get many types of players in and expect that every single group is going to be happy. Every patch will make a group upset because it's too grindy, or not grindy enough, or too hard, or not hard enough, or they come from MMOs that actively support cash shops vs those that prefer MMOs that don't have active cash shops...
Yes, it seems like everyone is complaining, but there's not going to be a fix for it unless SE makes the game so niche that only one type of player plays and comments...and even then it would probably divide into degrees of HOW niche to make it.
Never seen the point of being blindly loyal to any company or any specific franchise and sticking behind them regardless of what they do, I just like individual games by themselves regardless of who made them or their IP. This goes especially for companies and franchises whose bad game to good game ratio is much higher, especially in the past decade or so.
Yup, pretty much this. You can never satisfy everyone. I love the all the OMG I'M LEAVING BECAUSE OF THE CASH SHOP tears, those are my favorite. Also love seeing the same people who say they are leaving make another thread about why they are leaving.
People are unhappy because every update is just a way for them to promote the cash shop even further. More and more items keep appearing in game that aren't even acquired via in-game methods which is totally bullshit to those who actually PLAY the game! I'm going to keep on bitching until they release alternate in-game methods to acquire said items. It makes no sense to create content that isn't even player driven every single patch. I've said this a million times before, it's like they're fine with people playing the game once a week and dropping it until next reset. Stop with these monthly or bi-monthly updates if you're going to release content that is the same rehash over and over and save the "new" stuff for the cash shop. It's bullshit.
I about lost my shiz when I saw the 'We can't use Stoneskin II in battle?! Hate you SE!' It's like, finally, they threw us a bone @_@
Limited to out of battle was acceptable and they even mentioned it at Fanfest. Now the real issue is SCH can't cross class it. Sure in "real" content you'll mostly always want to have at least both healers and have the WHM do it, but for dungeons, trials or other stuff like say ST where you can't always guarantee a WHM, SCHs still have to do it one by one.
If you post that you like the things and you are having a great time, you are labeled fanboy. If you offer criticism or say you don't like this or that, you're a complainer. If you post about the complainers, you're a whiner. If you post about the fanboys, you're a hater. If you don't post, you don't exist.

THANK YOU!! Finally someone else with sense sees this.
I've been saying this since the Alpha Test (yes, even in the Alpha there were people who just hated for the sake of hating) - no matter what SE does, this community will never be satisfied, changing their fickle tastes at will and then attacking SE 'for not listening to them'. I can just imagine poor Yoshi looking exasperated and throwing his hands up into the air and shouting "MAKE UP YOUR MINDS!!!"
I feel like lately, participating in all these threads (I'm not anti-cash shop, but I am anti-exclusive cash shop) is making me more likely to be annoyed over little things. Almost like a snowball effect.
So today I've made a vow to ease up on forums! Suggestion and discussion threads are still good, but no more participating more than once per complaint type. Instead I'll just focus on the game - which I do still love so much because there are still so many other aspects of it that I enjoy quite a lot.
OH HAI KAT! Gobbie misses you!
my gripe is RNG content personally, and i do agree, i have yet to actually do atma, especially after when it was first released and did over 400 fates with only 2 atmas to show for it. i just wish they would either stop using it all together or put in some checks and balances to make up for too many consecutive failures with RNG
When people are happy, they have less to talk about. When people are unhappy, it helps to get it off your chest. That's the reason official forums tend to gravitate towards the negative.
I'll admit I've had my fair share of gripes too, but the fact I'm still here and still playing the game shows I still find it enjoyable. The positives still outweigh the negatives. That's not to say I agree with some of SE's decisions in the recent months, in fact I dare say I was quite outspoken about more than a few, but that's what happens when something bad happens to something you love. You want to fight to keep it good.
The problem is that if no one complains about anything, then the devs will just assume everything is fine and the players are contented with the content regardless of how much it annoys people. They're not psychic and can't tell we hate a particular bit of content when no one tells them so. It's our job as players to keep them informed about changes we like or didn't like, and in doing so we help to guide their hand for future updates and influence, however slightly, the direction of the game as a whole.
So, the next time someone writes a post that complains, instead of berating them try to argue their points. Bring your own to the table. Do you agree, or disagree? If so, why? The more information SE has the more informed the decision they can ultimately make, and the better this game becomes for everyone.
Finally someone say something right.
You are REALLY never happy. You asked for Stoneskin II e then you say "Why no SCH?" . You wanted a new Relic step and then you dont like aesthetics and how many steps there are. You want Eternal Bond and then you complain about Gold and Platinum with cash.
Oh come on guys. Let SE do what they want. This is THEIR game and yours. If you dont like something when your active account will expire the Unistall features is always up.
My favorite part of 2.45 was sitting around for three hours, happily crafting Roast Dodo and Starlight Cakes just to give out as gifts. :D I try not to whine about the negatives, since so many other people can do it for me. I've avoided making any positive thread just because I've seen the super negative people come in and immediately try to destroy it for the sake of "misery loves company". I don't have time for that! I need to make more cake!
*Clears throat*
Tanaka wouldn't have added a cash shop.
“You can please some of the people all of the time, you can please all of the people some of the time, but you can’t please all of the people all of the time”.” ― John Lydgate
Since more people equals more $$$, SE will go for the "all of the people some of the time" option. And those times when some of the people aren't pleased? They get noisy on the forums. :P
People only come to the forums to complain. Not one peep about all this nonsense in game last night. A vocal minority acting loud, trying to cause a stir on the forums.
In game, all we talk in and out the FC is about who goes to the Bond, and when this or that member does ceremony, and everyone wants be sure attend.
Forums seems another world. Apart.
Well, to be fair, there is no global chat in FF14 (And I don't know about your server but in mine people don't use Shout much other than hunts). So if there are people complaining about this in their FC's/LS's, unless it's the ones you belong to, you won't be able to see them...
According to the forum, every single feature in the game is broken. Yet, people wonder why the devs completely ignore the forums.
