How Cash Shop Dyes Should Be Handled

Let us obtain them in-game but make them extremely rare.

Making them solely exclusive to the Cash Shop is really uncool.

If people don't want to pray to the RNG gods, they can pony up in the cash shop.

At least make them available both ways.

Right now they're $1 for 1 dye on 1 character, cash-shop exclusive for those who don't know.

There are some things which make sense to make cash-shop exclusives, others not.

Dyes shouldn't be exclusive.

You people make it seem like you have been mislead....you haven't been.

I think a lot of us would be happier if the cash shop was just a shortcut for vanity, and not an exclusive way to get an item.

So I wholeheartedly agree with your statement! Like you said, people who don't want to wait or would rather pay than deal with RNG will end up paying.

Neither am I acting like I've been misled, I just disagree with the way they're handling the Cash Shop.

I had read the ToS, I knew a Cash Shop could happen.

I just don't like their implementation of it and I'm allowed my opinion.

At this rate Square Enix should just introduce a second subscription model where you pay more like ($20) a month, and you fill a contract for a year which allows you to gain all cash shop items for free when its introduced in a patch. That way your getting the full game and you save a bit of money while you SE is guaranteed to get $240 dollars from us a year.

Not generalizing, just reading exactly what you are saying. Besides, all you have to do is click on someone's name to see what threads they've made.

The threads you've made alone are enough to generalize you with the anti-cash shop crowd. So before you start claiming "read what I said" maybe you should think about people who actually "read what you say".

There are people that read more than they post and you sir, are an easy read.

I actually have purchased from the Cash Shop, I have no problem with many of its wares.

Anyway, it's irrefutable that you've stereotyped me as an Anti-Cash Shop Crowd Member.

If you understood my posts, you'd see that I support the Cash Shop in some fashion... that's extremely evident in my two posts up top.

I just love that this sentence actually exists. The internet has done wonders to promote inter-cultural dialogue.

$1 for a single pot of dye is ridiculous; the only way I'd be okay with paying for dyes is if it were a non-consumable item. $5 for a pot of dye I could use as much as I want seems reasonable to me?

As much as I like the new green dye, if I can't get it in-game, I'll just ignore it like all the other cash shop items.

1) Make a way in game to earn Crysta (example: Trade 10,000 Gold Saucer tickets for 1 Crysta).
2) Make cash shop items purchasable with Crysta if they aren't already (Sleipnir, for example, would cost 1,500 Crysta, unless my conversion is off).
3) ???
4) Profit.

Currently 1$ for a pot of Dye? That's 100 Crysta. Go play the f*ck out of Gold Saucer or just mosey up the 1$ up front. I'd be more than happy with the cash shop if they gave me the option to earn the stuff in game by burning my retinas out to Triple Triad or Chocobo Racing. They could add whatever to it and I'd eat it up if it gives me a reason to play a snowboarding minigame until I'm senile.

Please ignore the fact that tying it to Crysta is a silly way to do things. It means you can win 50,000,000 Triple Triad games and get enough Crysta for a free 30 days. Awesome.

I agree with the OP. Dyes and anything consumable should be available to be obtained within the game itself.

I can't play the game and obtain these dyes, even if it takes me a week just to get one I still don't even have that option. No.. I have to fork over a dollar every single time I want to use one of these dyes on something.

Now that they have done this, there is absolutely nothing from stopping them from introducing every new dye via Cash Shop.

What's that, you really wanted this new dye and are so glad we finally added it to the dye system? Well good luck getting it by actually PLAYING our game. Ha ha! No! Give us more money and we'll let you have some. Hope you plan on keeping that look for a while.

I have no real problem with a cash shop as a shortcut for people who want to get stuff faster than they can in-game. I have no problem with it offering event gear to people who missed the corresponding event. But when we're paying a subscription, we should be entitled to at least have a chance at getting everything in-game. SE could still use the shop to make a little extra from people who don't choose to do so. So I'm not entirely against a cash shop, but I'm definitely against any cash shop exclusives. (That they make a consumable exclusive is just making it even worse.)

Hmm. I don't really mind past event items being in the shop. They were obtainable in the game, if you took part in the event while the event was active. Once the event ended, technically those items should never again be available until the next time that event occurs, if at all.

Every MMORPG I have ever played, if you missed an event then you missed out on that event gear as they were typically 1 time only items. I prefer that personally, as it gives those items a bit more flair or importance and leaves players that don't have them wondering where they came from.

The dyes on the other hand, are not available to be obtained in the game at all. These weren't one time only event dyes. They are normal dyes, and there is no way to get them at all by playing the game with your subscription. They have not ever been able to be obtained by some method within the game itself. You much purchase them outside of the game to obtain them for use within the game and this is the only way to get these dyes. This is wrong.

To actually be on topic; I feel that the dyes should be 5 for $1. I mean... like you really think someone is going to dye one and only 1 item and not their whole outfit?

The metallics aren't always useful anyways because some armor keeps the metallic color. Thank heavens for us that complained about that early on or this would be the only way ARMOR (like pld) would look metallic...

I agree. It's especially going to be sad when you eventually want to change the dye color to switch things up vanity-wise, but suddenly you become reluctant because you had to drop $5 on the dye in the first place. I'm sure that's chump-change to a lot of people, but I try to be smart with my money. It's hard to justify $1 for 1 consumable pot of dye.

I think a one-time $5 vendor-unlock would suffice too.

Still though, should be obtainable in game somehow.

Cash Shop should be for the impatient for consumables of such a kind.

There were already rare dyes. People whined that they could never get them. Now square will charge people for these new dyes so they don't have to roll the dice.

They 'whined' only because they legitimately couldn't get one (metallic gold) because a bug prevented them from being obtainable.

Once they fixed it, the 'whining' stopped.

That argument doesn't hold.

It's like the whole "you people asked for this (Cash Shop)!!!" argument.

I never once read a thread asking SE to make a Cash Shop (even if there was one or a few, it wasn't a common or popular request by any means).

The "you asked for it" argument is also bad because while players might ask for a Cash Shop, by no means does it follow that many of those requesting it meant for things like Dyes to make it in there.

SE just up and implements things however they want, I don't think they've ever asked us once in the 2.x generation what we actually want or how we want something implemented.

I just spoke about this in one of the marriage threads.

They don't let the players inform their implementations practically whatsoever and it's getting old.

People have asked to be polled again by SE, their response was that 'we have the forums for that now and they work just fine!'... for which I beg to differ.

$1 for one pot of dye is straight up highway robbery. You need 5 pots to dye one set of your gear. It should be 5 pots for $1, with the option to buy an "infinite" pot that has unlimited uses for $5.

I change my glamours so often that paying $1 per pot forever would end up costing me hundreds of dollars.

I do prefer it to be 1$ for 5 or 10 pots, personally I don't think dyes should be that expensive

No, gold is barely the issue. When it came to those dyes, I always hear "I got this and this except X"

Make all dye colors craftable, as the sort of single-use consumables we have now. Then they could add non-consumable infinite-pot-of-dye versions of each to the Store. Some people might pick up a pot or two for their favorite colors that way, whereas I certainly can't see paying extra money to dye just one item one time.

But no dye colors should be exclusive to the Store, or even be rare items to obtain in-game. (At most, maybe the black/white/metalic ones could be higher level recipes than the others with pricier ingredients, but they should still be easily craftable at least by high-level crafters.)

This could be not legal in some countries. Or the game have to be age 18+ because of real money gamble

Completely agree putting dyes only obtainable behind cash shop is insulting and stupid.

Not sure I follow... How would that be gambling real currency? At worse your gambling Crysta, but even then you're not - you're earning it, I guess because you're earning it with a subscription? You cannot refund Crysta though, and Crysta is just another virtual currency (albeit one SE will let you buy to pay subscriptions with), so I don't see any issue. It would just be a sort of discount system for your subscription, not a gambling system.

You also buy the sub with crysta (I guess also for XI sub?). You also buy other services with crysta, like name change or server transfer.
100 crysta = 1$ or 1€

Also it would be not fair to contries who have no access to crysta, like australia.

My personal worry with the idea of "lets put the dyes in the cash shop but also in game" is that to me, it would likely exacerbate the idea that anything can be put in the cash shop. I'd like to be able to get anything in the game, but part of me also wants to be able to look at a player and know,"oh look, they're riding a bear, they've done a lot of tanking." (I doubt they'd sell the bear as it is incentive to tank, but it was the only example I could think of as an obvious example of an ingame achievement.)

Edit: I suppose that could be dealt with by having cash shop variants.

SE a word? Will these dyes be obtainable in-game sometime? They should.
