My fellow dragoons! Our time is that hand!

I am now level 30 dragoon and I can't wait for tuesdays update! Tell me:

1-What buffs will we be getting? Will jump recast time will be decrease as well?

2-What was the major issues with dragoon? How do you feel right now that we will get buffs?

3-With all the hate,trolls,deaths and pain, why did you guys never gave up on dragoon?

1) We don't know for sure, but we're getting a buff to our DoTs and another C/D reduction to our Jumps. We don't know the specifics or anything else other then that.

2) Low Magic defence (level 50 fisher has more Magic Defence than an i115 Dragoon for example), absolutely no raid utility coupled with lowest DPS out of all Melee DPS Classes. There's loads of threads about it.

3) No. I'll always be a Dragoon.

I think they're changing it so heavy thrust can be applied from anywhere. As for the rest of the buffs it's getting, I don't know and/or they haven't said exactly.


As for why people still play them, I think it's a preference thing. Personally, i find dragoon to be one of the most fun classes to play. I don't play any endgame stuff so top numbers and/or stats are meaningless to me. If i can beat the content I'm doing and have a good time then I'm satisfied.

3. Just few reason
you has to follow very strict job with most challenge to top dps. Even though we lose to mnk with long battle single target.
You has to follow rotation a single fail cost you dps and redo rotation and dot.
You has to timing you jump for max dps or else you lose dps and die.
You has to learn when boss jump and still stick with you dot and instant close gap to keep dps.
You will eat more damage more than anyone else. Even you are careful. So drg always give heart attack to healer.
You love to see the full buff with full thrust with 1,9k- 2.2k damage.
you love you badass armor look.
You don´t have to care anyone in raid. You can complete focus on mechanic 100% of time

pretty much thats all reason why i play drg.

1) Here's the direct quote from the letter from the producer:

Q2: Could you provide details on upcoming dragoon changes and tell us when the changes will go live?

A2: We will be making changes to the directional requirement on some actions. Specifically, you will not lose the buff if you fail to meet the directional requirement on the action. We understand there are currently situations where a dragoon is unable to go to a certain side of a enemy. After these changes go live, the overall damage drop in these situations should be less.

Additionally, we will be increasing the magic defense that they are currently lacking.

We will be making other adjustments to the dragoon’s action including the reduction of recast timers on certain skills, decreasing the increased damage taken during blood for blood, and increasing the DoT damage on certain actions.

We will be making these adjustments in patch 2.45 which is scheduled for December 9th.

2) Issues currently facing Dragoons are already covered by others.

3) I play because ultimately i enjoy the character look (gear and such), animations, and playstyle.

Dragoons! Ready your lalafells and eat hearty... For on patch 2.45, we dine in hell!

Dragoon is love, Dragoon is life. The haters just wish they were us.

1- Already mentioned.
2- The necessary abuse of Blood for Blood and general vulnerability to mechanics because of low magical defense, plus the animation lock. Two of these problems are being addressed. About animation lock it's already been mostly eliminated, I guess the rest will always be up to me for not jumping when an AoE is about to be cast.
3- Because I have been playing this class since day one and I never stopped improving, nor wanting to learn how to improve further. To change would mean throwing away one year of messing around with abilities and keeping myself updated in the Rotation reborn thread.

I think this will happen. Jump CD dow from 40 to 20 or 30. Spin shaker dow from 60 to 40. Dragon fire dive dow from 2 minutes to 1 minute. Elusive jump down for 3 minutes to 30 seconds.

3. because all those who survived the stigma and party and raid kicks of the loldrg days loved the class enough that that did not matter to us we loved the skills , we loved the look ( most awesome look in the game :D) and last but not least we all have the damn soul of the dragon within us :D

1) I heard something about being able to keep DOTs and buffs going for longer (or something like that)

2) Too many times we are out of a good position or get locked from our jump in a bad spot. Slow attack speed compared to other dps and low magic def (major issue for coil)

3) I will be DRG main always no matter how much its hated (was LOLDRG in 11 --> 14 so over 10 years total)

An increase in our DoT timer will completely wreck the Dragoon Rotation and people like myself would have to go back to the drawing board and create a new rotation - making Dragoons still useless for a while until we've sorted a new rotation out. I really, really doubt that'll happen. An increase in our DoT timer will make 0 impact to our DPS believe it or not, unless either Fracture also receives a HUGE buff, or we gain a completely new GDC skill with a potency of 200+ somehow. We'll receive a buff to our DoTs, nothing more.

A new rotation won't be difficult to figure out. Ninja was figured out pretty quickly, for example.

True. Very true.

Let's assume SE increased the DoT time on Phlebotomize by, I don't know, 2 in-game ticks (6s), so 2.4 GDCs. You're in a Dilemma. If you continue the standard rotation, you'd clip your Phlebotomize DoTs.The perceived "optimal" rotation, which would remove any form of DoT clipping (As people assume you must not clip dots to have a high DPS rotation) would be something like this: (off the top of my head)

H IDC PF TTT
H TTT P IDC
H TTT FP IDC
H TTT P TTT

OR, even start messing with the placement of Phlebotomize, so it runs after every 3rd combo, rather than every second. But no matter however it's done or whatever potential method you use to stop the clipping of your DoTs, the PPS of all other potential rotations are sub-par in comparison to our H IDC P TTT H Rotation. An increase in length of our DoTs ticks will actually cause a loss in your PPS if you try to optimise the rotation to suit it.

Now then... There's also the possible outcome that they could increase the length of both Phlebotomize and Chaos Thrust... But this just complicates everything. There will be no more Rotation, just a priority system.

In other words, increasing the duration of our DoT ticks is an absolutely pointless fix and causes more issues than it would. I'm actually really worried for when the expansion comes out and how drastically our jobs rotations will change.

I dunno. We'll see what they do in around 12 hours time and start panicking when we actually get the patch notes :D

Who ever mentioned anything about DoT time increases? I'm pretty sure they were going to increase DoT potency.

Yeah as far as I understand it was potency changes, the damage taken from B4B reduced, Mdef up which were guaranteed.

Then I remember reading they were considering changing the timers for some CDs. I don't know if that implied big ones like traited B4B (doubtful but would be amazing) or more jump reductions. I was trying to find the actual post (I thought it was a dev post but now I can't find it)

If they change DRG's M.Def to match other melee DPS, and B4B gets a sizable reduction in damage taken, then that would mean a huge increase in survivability... That alone is a great buff.

Another big change (not a buff exactly), is what they are doing to Heavy Thrust... You won't have to use it on the flanks to get the buff from it, I sure you won't get the bonus damage though (like MNK), but that's a really great change too. Maybe this will be the case with Impulse Drive too, but either way it's good.

I expect the other changes to the DPS is simply a shorter cool-down on Jump, and an increase in potency for Phlebotomize and Chaos Thrust. I have no idea how much of an increase would be necessary...

So hyped for these changes! I decided to main DPS for FCoB (instead of healer) and was completely heartbroken when I found out how much the Turns punish us Dragoons. :(
