Can we have "true" fantasy-esque ( just made that up!) elemental weapons please!?

I'm new to this forum and I don't know if this has been discussed before, but I have been wondering about the elemental weapons in this game. Its hard to imagine a fantasy game that doesn't have weapons with elemental properties, but this game doesn't and it needs it.
I understand that the way the game is made that it would be hard to implement a proper system to balance elemental damage. And even though I would love to rock a flaming sword of justice that does holy and fire damage, I know realisticlly we are not there yet for this game.

With that being said, why then are we teased by SE with certain weapons with "elemental-style" names that offer no elemental dmg properties but will offer weak elemental resistance? :confused: I don't see the point of having a sword like this one http://igoumedia.com/finalfantasy14/...-gear-drop.jpg which is clearly some sort of elemental weapon that only offers +2 Ice resistance? really? :mad:

So I have an idea SE. You came up with the glamour system which was awesome, but you can only make you gear look like other gear. So how about special materia that can give a weapon elemental properties. Now im not talking about damage. Im talking specifically about looks. For ex.

Normally a Strength IV materia has +7. But what if the materia I'm asking for would not only give you the +7 str but also make your weapon have an elemental "glamour"? So essentially, a glamour materia that will give you normal, balanced stat increase so that you can still increase a stat for your weapon while offering customization for elemental property looks.

Because seriously, how can you name a weapon "Flametoungue" but there's nothing "fiery" about it but its name? Now some weapons will not have that option of course because of the content, like the primal weapons. Keep them the way they are already, but just allow us to have elemental style weapons that "at least" look like the element they are representing. What do you all think?

You would have to rework WHM and BLM if elemental wheel was brought back, and it doesn't add enough to the game to be worth the effort (it's just UI clutter for a BLM, for example, you have 18 abilities, but you'd only use the effective ones, Yoshi compressed it into 6 abilities that work on everything just as effectively).

Elemental glamour would be nice, though.

I know. Definitely wishful thinking, but i would take it if the elemental weapons just "look" like elemental weapons. Like im playing Dragon Age: Inquisition right now. I love the runes that i can add to my weapons, so my sword just burst into flames when I unsheathe it. Its a plus that it does fire dmg as well as normal dmg, but I just like that it burst into flames. I would take that in this game.

Yoshi stated (though I couldn't cite where, at the moment) that he has no intention of bringing elemental damage into the game, that it only still exists as a relic of the 1.0 system that has been discarded.

I'm not asking for damage. I'm asking that if you are gonna have a weapon named "Flametongue", and it doesn't do any fire dmg...at least make it look like its on fire, like how Ifrit weapons look or something when you unsheathe them. If not, then don't go around naming weapons "Flametongue", "Frostbite", etc.

If I can make a weapon with rainbow and star effects, then you have my vote.

The primal weapons are the elemental looking weapons.
Ifrit weapons look fiery, Titan weapon look stony, Garuda weapon look windy (with all the feathers)

It would be nice, if not an elemental wheel, that they would at least get some special DoTs. Like Ifrit weapon could cause Burn DoT on the target.

Flametongue is called Flametongue because it is from 1.x and there was an elemental wheel.

The old Flametongue stats:
HP+16
Strength+1
Vitality+2
Fire Resistance+5
Chance to inflict fire damage

If we did that it'd make it too complicated for casual players! Some weapons might actually be more useful in fights than others and we can't have that because then people who don't have the weapons might be disadvantaged!

So basically you want Elemental Weapons with a glow? Not against the idea but you can still call a sword "Flametounge" even if it's not flaming Red. Basing a weapons appearance on too heavily on their name? Then I wonder what "Save the Queen" Would look like?

No. I don't want an elemental weapon with a "glow". I want an elemental weapon that by just looks, you know its elemental. When i draw my "Flametongue", I don't need it to do "Fire" dmg or "inflict" fire...but it better at least have flames bursting from it. Doesn't have to do elemental dmg, but just look the part. I was excited when I got that MRD axe I think was called Thunder...something when i first started playing this game....equipped it...was like..that's it? at least have lightning or something just for show. If not, then don't call it that and then try to justify it by add +2 lightning resistance....no.

Technically no - It has a glow effect but that doesn't mean anything, by that logic your Brauva Nexus should be Firebased..or really any nexus weapon based on glow would be elemental based. Basically wants elemental based weapons to actually be elemental, but as a response said, it would confuse the new players. Something yoshi actually uses as an excuse.

I think I know which Axe your on about but since it's a lower level Axe I don't think too much thought went on it's looks so I wouldn't put too much thought onto it. But yeah Primal weapons cover the Elemental look.

So you want something like crafted primal weapons and Tidal Wave weapons?

Coming from offline FFs, I was confused when I could use wind to kill wind elementals. My sister, who plays very few (offline) games, was confused when I could kill fire elementals with fire, and my dad, who plays only one game (the card game that comes with Windows), is definitely confused why elements doesn't matter. The excuse that an elemental wheel would be confusing seems just like saying "we didn't want to bother programming and balancing an elemental wheel so we'll blame it on newbies instead". Though pertaining to cosmetics, I agree that we need some more solid effects rather than nebulous glows.

Yes, those crafted weapons with an element in their names are old weapons from 1.x, and in 1.x they had element stats on it. Like chance to cause fire dmg or +magic potency for ice spells

Some of the primal weapons do not initially have a glow on it (Tidus, Garuda, Ifrit, Good King Moggle Mog XII., and Leeviabeetus). However, through demimateria crafting, you can add in particle effects; it'd glow and have some of the effects based on the element.

Tidus would have a yellow/orange glow with floaty rocks,
Garuda has a green glow with white feathers
Ifrit has a red glow with speckles of flame
Good King Moggle Mog XII. has the musical notes and sparkles
Leviabeetus has the blue swirls.

After Leviabeetus, Ramuh and Shiva weapons already have some of the glow built into it, but not necessarily particle effects.

A thing I want to add into the elemental wheel in combat is that itd be rough to balance, espically for someone like a BLM and their current combat design. We don't want to segregate classes because they can't be effective for a specific encounter, nor do we want to have an enormous amount of buttons to press for really no good reason.

That's not the reason they chose to remove the elemental wheel at all, it's because with BLM gameplay ( having an element being damage, the other DoT, and the last for MP regen ) it couldn't have worked with an elemental wheel, except by having each kind of spell so 3 DoTs + 3 DMG + 3 Regen spell x 6 (each element) meaning a wonderful 54 spells for the BLM instead of 9. Not counting all the issues with dmg absorb and fights where the elemental wheel would have make BLM OP.

I'm down for armor. Having something akin to materia slots for elemental resistance materia would be awesome.

Which I always thought was Yoshi talking out of his #&@ again. Oh we spent a year completely redoing everything in the game but... It was too hard to take the elemental info out of the UI.
