Why is chocobo porting so limited?

Because sometimes I don't feel like running the wild with nothing but an alembic to protect me, or I want to write something, I like to use the chocobo porter to go to places that don't have aethyrites but do have chocobo service (Whitebrim, Observatoreum for examples.).

So I port to Mor Dhona by accident, I meant to port to Camp Dragonhead to go to Whitebrim. No prob, just take the porter chocobo. But it only goes to Dragonhead! So I'm just like "fine" and do it.

But the path to Dragonhead is interesting. It'd be faster to go to Whitebrim from Mor Dhona, and even the current path takes us close to Whitebrim. I'd also go ahead and say it'd be faster to go straight to the Observatoreum than have to pass through Dragonshead.

Let's not get me started on Observatorium to Fallgourd Float.

I would think it would be better to give chocobos that shorter distance as not to put more energy than needed into two chocobos when one could take me where I want to go.

Give the chocobos a break and add the following routes:

Mor Dhona <--> Whitebrim
Mor Dhona <--> Observatorium
Observatorium <--> Fallgourd Float

Not only will it stress the chocobo less, they may live longer! PLEASE THINK OF THE CHOCOBOS

I want to be able to go from Saint Conaich to Ul'dah and Saint Conaich to Fallgourd Float.

I can only imagine the conversation that would happen for Saint Coinach to Ul'dah.

Not that I'm against it. XD i wouldn't mind such a long ride sometimes.

Chocobo porting is limited, true, but it is also a pretty cool way to get around. Unfortunately, it is rendered pretty useless by the ability to teleport. You miss a lot of the world, but it's relatively cheap, and it's fast.

That said, I still enjoy manually travelling from place to place within reason.

Who said you'd need to go through castrum? o_O You can go this route:

• Saint Conaich (Get On)
• Fallgourd Float
• Bentbranch (North <> Central)
• Buscarron's Druthers
• Camp tranquil
• Camp Drybone
• Black Brush
• Ul'dah (Get off)

Teleporting would just be faster and probably cheaper than using a porter to go such a long way and you wouldn't endure several load screens either.

Yes, the porter system feels unfinished and i can only imagine that its not getting much attention since its probably not utilized much. I havent used it at all since my first week in game. The teleport system pretty much kills it.

Yeah, the teleport system renders it obsolete. If teleport prices were a lot higher or you only were given an allowance on a daily basis you'd see porters being used, and a lot. At this point probably the only way to make them viable again is to reroute them to locations not accessible via crystals, like dungeon entrances, settlements and landmarks (like that tower on the complete oppsite side of the map from Dragonshead.)

Teleport allowance.. 1.0 anima style.

I must've missed the addition of aethyrites in Whitebrim and Observatorium.

To be honest, whitebrim is one of my worse locations to go, and I had to go there A LOT for all my animus relics....It's getting annoying. Lately what I do is teleport to camp dragonhead, use the chocobo porter and meanwhile do something, check the forum, take a cola, whatever.

The obvious answer to why it's so limited is teleporting. There is no good reason to use chocobo porters other than RPing and going afk for a couple of minutes because teleporting is pretty much always faster. I understand that some people might just like the scenery but how much time will the average person waste on that? I think the devs realize that teleporting fills the gap that porters don't cover.

I use porting if I'm in a city and going somewhere, while I get up and grab a snack. It is cheaper and I have to get up anyway :D.

Or if I'm in a town, and there's a porter, and I know I have to go somewhere close by (same map or one near it), I'll see if the porter has that location because once again, it's super cheap, and often under a minute so I can read and email or a forum post real quick. If they had more connections, I'd use it even more often.

Sometimes it can actually be convenient as a variety of port locations don't have teleports (they have one near, but not at, the camp I'm going to). So it saves me some choco-riding time.
