I would really like a DEV to give us a quick update on this.

A while back, and I cannot quote where because its a while back there, a DEV mentioned we would be getting a dice roll/random number emote soon, most likely before the expansion. I was just wondering if we are still on track for that. As I'm on an RP server, this would be a real cool thing for us, as when we RP a fight we usually have to use rollz or something, and a quick and easy roll emote would be amazing.

Wasn't this mentioned between the 2.38-2.4 period? Gotta give it a little more time.

And you're right. While I can't quote it neither I clearly remember not much time ago, perhaps in 2.2 about the removal of a certain useful random command that they'd implement back...

I'm also interested in this, as a lover of the randomness and also as a roleplayer, even if my server is not so much into it, I'm the one who decides to give my character its own personality, different than mine, and having some nice random or dice utility is highly appreciated. I hope they'll read this, or at least that this topic won't fall in oblivion.

I totally forgot about the casinos players created using it in FFXI. So annoying to see /shouts for, "HUBERT"S AWESOME CASINO, 5K MINIMUM 500K MAXIMUM! 1-10: x4 RETURN, 11-30 x2 RETURN! /TELL AND PLACE YOUR BETS!!!" over and over and over and over and over...

Even gilseller /shouts were less common and less annoying...

As we have previously posted, the /random function was scheduled for implementation sometime after Patch 2.5. The dev. team let us know that they're working to have this implemented at the release of Patch 2.5.

And a quick update it was. Thanks for replying!

Good to know we are going to count with a function like that. It would be cool if we could also choose the faces of the dice. (Example, 1d10, 1d20, 1d100...)

Any half competent coder could implement this in minutes. All you're doing is calling math.random() or whatever the equivalent is in FFXIV's language and outputting the result to chat after some slight modifications. I'm incompetent in 4 languages and even I could do this quickly.

It's too bad that S-E doesn't have you on their payroll!

My FC has decided to take advantage of random number generators for roleplaying. Basically, one player rolls against another. Whoever wins the roll has their action succeed. Enables RP combat scenes to be much more dynamic and less chaotic.

But, perhaps.... Things are more complicated for Square Enix?

I mean.... Maybe the coding in PS3 is different and it would be annoying to recode it once you finished in PC and then PS4.

What it probably is is they want to do something a little special with it. I probably wouldn't expect just a simple "X rolls the dice, and they come up Y."
We might be getting an actual emote, and those take time, especially one with a variable.

The code is already there unless it's something different than 1-99.

That's exactly the function I want Burning. You're a Balmunger too so you know how many combat RP events there are. It'll streamline the Grindstone Events that's for damn sure.

Think we could bring back /countdown whilst we're at it?

It's probably either already done or not worked on at all. I like to think the emotes are lowest priority.

If it work like during 1.x then we can decide the max number
example:
/random 56
a random number between 1 and 56

/random
a random number between 1 and 100

If someone is flooding/spamming in an area it is not my responsibility to turn of shouts or blacklist them just for this. I do not want to turn it on/off all the time depending on the area i am in. LFG Spam in Mor Dhona for WP/Brayflox Speedruns was bad enough, really, but at least i knew back then: when i port to mor dhona i turn shouts of, when im gone i turnem back. Casions will be run everywhere tho.

Adding a block function in chat settings to not see other peoples /random or settings like Group Friends Linkshell etc. as they are for names in character settings would be nice. Just please don't add it to the emote list, because seeing emotes is good (many people hug/wave/poke me instead of /t when passing by), number spam around areas where people run their casinos - and they will run casinos everywhere - is not.

Besides that i just hope for customizable rolls (/random#) and a different text line for /random and random#. If they are the same without saying how many sides the dice has there wont be casinos (which wouldnt be too bad in my personal opinion xD)

I assume /random is going to be aesthetically different from emotes? I ask this because /em allows people to type out manual emotes, so people could very easily cheat the system if it is an emote.

oh yeah thank you grakumah that why we enjoy so much the game your listen your player base what we want on the game and your try your best to grab it into it so i really enjoy it again thank you for that feature

Why?

You can easily add the person to your BL just by clicking on their name. Most people who decide to do a player-run casino will probably advertise for it in the PF anyway.

I don't have any issues with player-run casinos as long as the person running the casino isn't shouting about it every 5 seconds. Every three minutes or so wouldn't get on my nerves, but any more frequently and I will consider it spam.
