Pixelated Shadows after 1.18b.

Patch 1.18 had improved shadows and lighting quite a bit. My friends and I were very happy about it.

However today I noticed that after yesterday's patch, shadow quality is lower than it has ever been for me. Shadows look pixelated and just ugly. I checked my settings, still the same.

I checked with other people and they noticed it too. And it is not an issue of your GFX card or drivers, as shadows were still normal yesterday. :) Could you please re-add the proper shadows we had before.

1.18b. Shadow quality in-game is lowered. Wondering why this is the case. PC and gfx card drivers did not change over-night.

Its been like that since day 1 for me.

I kinda just got used to it and don't even notice anymore.

I know some people always had it. But I never had it, I take hundreds of screenshots for my blog each time I play so I definately know. :)
For those people with fancier PCs they did not have these shadows. Patch 1.18 actually significantly changed shadows and lighting in the game. And now after 1.18b it seems it has reverted to something awful. :/

I also had em since release.. looks very crappy in some cutscenes as well.. mew

Have you updated your video driver?

After 1.18a, I've had nothing but lag. I had almost everything on high, but I had to change all the settings to standard to get a decent frame rate.

If by took a crap you mean lathered the kitty in glorious wonder, then yes.

BTW cats don't give a shit about being piled in junk (or, in this case, heavenly wonders).

One day my friends and I piled so much crap on top of my kitten while she was sleeping. She opened her eyes and just gave us this WTF look, then went back to sleep, covered in junk. It was amazing.

As I said, nothing was changed. Drivers are the same. I wonder why only a few of us noticed better lighting and shadows after 1.18. Judging by those that had lag, it was probably an increase and they took it out again for perfomance issues. But it looked so nice. :(

Hi Buttons,

I've noticed those shadows before 1.18.

But after 1.18, I've noticed heavy transparency flickering during Sandstorms (Thanalan) and a few other instances.

yep it's been there.. wish they fix it

Um actually, my PC is up to standards thank you very much. If you had actually read my posts you would have seen that I stated that for one week it worked perfectly, the pixelated shadows were gone / not as bad as they are now.

I am perfectly aware that some people have had this issue for months. I just stated that for me and some of my friends, who have really good PCs and never had this problem before, it suddenly appeared today after 1.18b. Yesterday, this was not the case.

Its an issue of u need to spend 170+$s on a better video card and you will no longer have this issue. I bought a new PC and guess what i no longer had this problem. Now lets stop playing the mine shit is better than yours card cus assuming makes an ass of yourself.

Everything on max, shadows dont look that bad, but of course, they could have been better :P

my eyes go to more the content of the SS than the shadows

I got this @ 1.18b too but I thought it was just me so I ignored it. Maybe I'll check my config again to see if something's changed

Yes I know this is an old issue. My point is I did not have this issue before 1.18b. Patch 1.18 actually improved shadows and it looked amazing. Now after 1.18b it looks horrible.
My PC did not change overnight, my drivers did not change overnight. Something in the game however did. :)

Now please no bashing or fighting in the thread, I just wanted to bring up the topic so we could maybe find out something.

You missed the point, its not the amount, its the speed.

HDD:
Not related to shadows in the slightest, the point was to prove that its not my machine that is the issue.

I'm not sure why I even replied to this, because anyone who knows 2 things about computers can see you are an idiot.

I'm at work and bored I guess. ^^

Point is, my machine is not the issue and I have had this "shadow" glitch/issue since day 1.

I don't know crap about graphic card settings but is it possible the game FFXIV suddenly changed settings to use it's own application settings over graphic card settings???

It IS possible that they made changes during a patch.

However, many of us have had this same issue since Alpha.

So, I can't say for sure what happened.
