Has anyone done Ixali quests to level a craft? How does it work? Do I need to wait till my craft is high to do these? (42+ like the other beastman quests)
You can start them at L1 any craft.
You have to be a crafter to start them.
Do the actual crafting on your highest DoH, turn in on the DoH you wish to receive EXP on.
Yes I do the same. I HATE the highest level (L5?) Ixtal quests, so I do 3 L3 and 3 L4 for my 6 beastman quests. By making sure I'm the crafting class that I want to level when I turn them in, I'm able to make almost a level a day.
When the quests first came out I was already level 30 in all my crafts. Since then I've leveled 2 all the way to 50 and my 3rd is at level 46 or 47 right now. I'm planning on leveling the rest of my crafter's this way.
It does help to have multiple crafts leveled for the higher level quests as it level syncs them and you have to craft HQ stuff. The level synch seems to vary by craft though also as to what actions you can use to craft. Its great if you have a high level crafter and are leveling a low crafter, saves on levequests.
I know, but I'm already sitting on 170 oaknots at the moment, so It's not that much of a concern for me. I can handle (you have 1/2 your normal CP), I can handle (you can't use cross class skills). I can't handle the (you have 1/2 your normal CP and you can't use cross class skills). At this point in time, I don't have the gear to counter both of those penalties.
I finished of my ALC, CUL, CRP, and LTW using Daily Ixal quests only. I flagged them on those classes, crafted the items w/ my Fully Melded Armorer, ran back to the camp as my WAR (Just to make sure I didn't hand in as the wrong class) Swap o desired lower level class, hand in quests.
6 hand-ins (doing ighes to tiers) would give you 75%-80% a level, so every third or fourth day you might not level up, but in about 10-12 days I would go from 40-50 using Ixal alone. I did this pre-2.4 which resulted in my Oaknot stockpile, which I used to craft my ARM, BSM Atisan Secondary tools, and my Foragers Sledgehammer. post 2.4 I was finishing CUL, and go the mats for my Artisan's Feet/Legs/Mitts. I still do them every day, just on my ARM, I will use the oaknots eventually to make all of my Artisan Secondaries, now that my main classes are covered.
When you go to craft the items make sure you only get one at a time. Each one gives a different debuff. When you are done crafting the one, make sure you take the debuff off and then get the next one. It helps a lot.
OP - I think other people have said it, but you will want to actually craft the items using your highest craft, but you can turn them in with your lower level crafts for the XP. The only difference is that the higher the craft you turn it in with, the higher amount of XP you receive. When I was leveling my crafts I tried to just focus on one at a time (after you get them all to 15) for the cross class abilities. Personally, I find CUL the easiest to do the higher level quests with because of Hasty Touch and SH2.
I'm pretty sure he knows this XD Some of the level 5 ones cut down your CP and limit your skills. The dificulty rating on them isn't that high though. high Wind of Ishgad, for example, iirc is high difficulty, and chops your CP, bu gives you access to cross class skills. wheras West For Fishing nerfs your CP as well as takes away cross class skills. Since it has a lower difficulty, you don't need all that CP so nobody even notices. (SH2, Advancedx3 or x5, and Standard Synthesis wins all of those a 100%)
As Maduro said, it's important with the final tier of Ixali quests to only craft 1 thing at a time because, depending on the specific quest, there are up to 3 different debuffs that you can get (all previous tiers have the same debuff for every quest). They're -150 CP, -50% CP, and no cross class skills. With all 3 stacked I don't think anybody can really complete those effectively since you'd have maybe 100 CP (and no CC skills).
I personally prefer WVR to complete the quests because of CS2. When doing these for exp, it's best to get at least 1 class up to 50 so that you can more easily finish the higher tier quests (I imagine they can be difficult for low level crafters) and grant more exp to whatever crafting classes you want (and collect oaknots).
EDIT: @ Mishini: None of the quests inflict more than 1 debuff. All of the gathering quests reduce your CP (I forget if it's 50% or -150 -- nearly the same thing) but are easy to complete anyway. If you have reduced CP and no access to CC skills then you've activated 2 or 3 quests at once. You don't ever have to deal with no CC and reduced CP simultaneously.
You don't have to. Left click on the debuff that's not related to the synth you're working on. If you don't know which is which, just remove both debuffs and talk to the NPC again to get the correct one reapplied.
What I do is accept all of e crafting challenges, and then I cancel one of the debuffs. after I craft all of he suff I can wih 1 debuff, I cancel i, and talk to the NPC. He gives me he alernate debuff, I craf everthing, and hen I'm done.
The XP you get for the turn-in varies by rank of the craft and scales to the level of the class that turns it in. You'll get a little over 50%~ of a level after 6 quests. I would also recommend avoiding Deliverance if you don't already have a lot of money. Unlike the other quests, it is very expensive to do and never gives Oaknots.
I have gone back and done the high level quests and my memory was indeed wrong. The two debuffs are independent. I thought there was one where they were combined, but there is not.
After doing them all my new "pick up my daily beastman" quest routine is. Go to the top level guy, and grab all available unless the quests are "A High Wind in Ishghard", or "West for fishing". Those two quests I'll ignore. I grab all from the 2nd highest guy. Then if I still have any beastman quests left to pick up I'll grab from the 3rd highest guy. Choosing "Left Wing Auronotics", or the one where you kill the headless guys and then go craft in the NE area of the zone where you pick up your relic weapon.
*edit*
Wanted to add one thing to actually be on topic.
As stated earlier when the Ixali quests came out I had all my crafters at 30. Since then I have used them to level 3 crafts all the way to 50. Looking at xivpads.com for timings, it looks like it takes me around 25 days to go from level 30 to level 50. That actually makes sense since: 1) I don't log in every day. and 2) the rewards don't quite give a full level.
If you're sitting on 170 oaknots, you must really hate money. XD
If you're not using them, buy a ton of Ixali Sealants. They are selling like hotcakes right now, for over 270k gil apiece on my server and likely for a lot on yours as well. Sell them now, and if it happens you need Sealants later, buy them back again later when the price goes down.
I do exactly that, craft with my level 50 alchemist and turn in with another crafter. Still some of the recipes are still very very frustrating i find. Almost to the point that i do not wish to do Ixali stuff ever again, lol
And hmm perhaps going forward instead of taking on 3 or so at a time i will only do 1. So thanks for that advice everyone :)
I took LineageRazor's advice and started selling the sealants. On Levi, they sell for 150K-160K.
Prior to Rank 6, this is not good advice. You can only get Oaknots from the Rank 5 and Rank 6 quests. If you are Rank 5, you can only do three a day for oaknots. When you hit Rank 6, yeah, you want to avoid Deliverance. Until then though, you want to do Deliverance every day to rank up faster. Deliverance gives significantly more reputation than any other quest but only takes one allowance just like any other quest.
Fastest way to Oaknots:
Day 1: Deliverance + 3x Rank 1
Day 2: Deliverance + 1x Rank 1, then unlock Rank 2, then 3x Rank 2 + 1x Rank 1
Day 3: Deliverance + 3x Rank 2 + 2x Rank 1
Day 4: Deliverance + 3x Rank 2 + 2x Rank 1
Day 5: 2x Rank 2, then unlock Rank 3, then Deliverance + 3x Rank 3
Day 6: Deliverance + 3x Rank 3 + 2x Rank 2
Day 7: Deliverance + 3x Rank 3 + 2x Rank 2
Day 8: Deliverance + 3x Rank 3 + 1x Rank 2, then unlock Rank 4, then 1x Rank 4
Day 9: Deliverance + 3x Rank 4 + 2x Rank 3
Day 10: Deliverance + 3x Rank 4 + 2x Rank 3
Day 11: Deliverance + 3x Rank 4 + 2x Rank 3
Day 12: Deliverance + 3x Rank 4 + 2x Rank 3
Day 13: 2x Rank 4, then unlock Rank 5, then Deliverance + 3x Rank 5 (4 oaknots, 4 total)
Day 14: Deliverance + 3x Rank 5 + 2x Rank 4 (3 oaknots, 7 total)
Day 15: Deliverance + 3x Rank 5 + 2x Rank 4 (3 oaknots, 10 total)
Day 16: Deliverance + 3x Rank 5 + 2x Rank 4 (3 oaknots, 13 total)
Day 17: Deliverance + 3x Rank 5 + 2x Rank 4 (3 oaknots, 16 total)
Day 18: Deliverance + 3x Rank 5, then unlock Rank 6, then 2x Rank 6 (6 oaknots, 22 total)
Day 19-999: 3x Rank 6 + 3x Rank 5 (6 oaknots, 22+6*N total, where N=number of days past 18)
