Why are numbers valued more highly than fun.

Some of you players are ridiculous and quite insecure. You get a new job and find it very enjoyable and the first thing you worry about is it getting nerfed and becoming "less" good, as if a overall 2% decrease in DPS would ruin the fun for you.

For one, for some players numbers ARE fun. Also, people who raid are concerned they will lose a valuable static spot if they continue playing as their preferred-yet-now-nerfed class.

This is a game, people aren't allowed to have fun ^.^

Why would anybody want the main job they play to get nerfed?

The first thread you posted was nothing but a bunch of people who never even played 50 ninja whining about how it's so easy and OP. The thread itself was baseless speculation from a player who was essentially begging for ninja to be nerfed. Several of the posters whining about ninja were monks or dragoons who didn't even have rogue unlocked, let alone ninja.

People are happy about the lack of nerf and you choose to single out the positive thread rather than the one full of negative garbage, good job.

People play the job they play because they like it. Your favorite job having less potential than before is pretty annoying to anyone.

Because combat in this game revolves around said numbers?

If the boss hits for 10k before mitigation, then you need to have 10k+1 EHP through straight hp or mitigation to survive. If the boss has a phase with 120k health and 60s to clear it, you need to do 2k party dps.

If there are jobs that make the numbers game easier, those jobs will become more desirable.

This whole game is numbers. That's all it is.

You think that is limited to video games? Have you ever played tabletop gaming or TCG's? NUMBERS.

Herein is why DRG at the least, is justified in their "whining" presently.

Even though I KNOW my potential on DRG is less than other melee DPS, I still enjoy playing the job, and have fun doing it. It gets frustrating and depressing that I do my best and thanks to the limitations of how my main is built, I will never do as well in many situations as others. And that is not fun.

I don't think nerfing a class is the solution. I think bringing the other classes/jobs up to par so they are all equal is the solution. Nobody wants to be nerfed.

Numbers are fun. Numbers are also not fun. The two go together.

ppl like stroking their epeens? As a tank idgaf about big numbers but its nice to see 1.5k+ IB's twice in a row. That's a 3k+ heal in 3 secs.

so "Fun" is completely subjective. What is fine for you might not be fun for someone else. No one can say one person' fun is more correct than another. For some fun comes from victories not from wipes. For some it comes from playing with friends, and for some its gathering/crafting.

Because perspective. You have 500k sports car that tops out at 250mph. New regulation requires engines outfitted with governor and now you suddenly can't go over 100. Avg Joe says wry so serious! You don't need to go 250 anyway! A car is for travel! You just want you're epeen! Some might have that car to show off epeen. Some might because faster is fun. Race car driver says they need it for work.

Regular cars now set to no more than 20mph. Omg not fair! I need this car to go faster to get to work and get my kids from school! Unwarranted nerf! Oh NOW it's a nerf mr avg Joe huh?

Some view dps as a luxury that doesn't really matter and the elitest need to get over it. Some see big numbers as fun and therefore the purpose of the game. Some view it as a necessity to function, but the truth is in the middle. Numbers and their relation to fun, necessity and epeen are all intertwined and vary from person to person, just like the speed of a car is relevant to driver fun, epeen, and basic practical function and the lines dividing those categories are subjective opinions.

I currently play ninja in my raid group and we are struggling as a team to meet a dps check right now and may just barely squeeze out our 1st win this week. Nerfing ninja yesterday would severely hamper that effort so it's very practical for me. Similarly I would have an even harder time if I were a drg instead right now. What's fun for some, others see as showing off and others see is practical necessity. It's not that black and white.

Because it's how the game was designed, so you can't really blame the player for striving for that 1% stat increase because it's basically what the game revolves around; grind one dungeon to get to the next, and while your in there get that stat increase so you can run that next one. It's a mechanic to keep the people playing since it's how the devs can get your money every month.

Most people want to be the best at something. A job that puts up big numbers will draw a lot of players because they want the thrill of putting big numbers up and the admiration of their fellow players. For most of us playing an MMO it's about trying to get the next best thing or being the best at what we do. When that comes under threat people get nervous. For most of us the fun is putting up big numbers,when you take those numbers away, there goes the fun.

All classes should be equal and have the equal dps output (assuming same gear and using the skill correctly ofc). Bashing Dragoons is not fun for the people who play them. Numbers say how seriously the devs take their job and develop the game correctly. When we have equal classes we can choose the one we like. If Ninja's dps output is greater than a Dragoon then its clear something went wrong in the development. And this is why patches exists. To fix mistakes and errors.

I get it - those players are part of the problem, though. They're the ones kicking you out of your static because you suddenly do a tiny bit less damage on your favorite class and slowing the raid down by a tiny amount.

And you don't see this as a problem? Insecurity, big time. You think big numbers = better. This is why we don't have support jobs or jobs with actual utility outside of the trinity in this game. This is the curse of modern MMOs.

Why don't you tell the devs to not put strict DPS checks in endgame fights them. As long as you need a certain amount of DPS to clear fights, you're going to have people who watch the numbers.

Except it is now hit 50, and if you didn't save up the gear yet from a main get carried through LOTA and ST, do not even bother with full ilvl 50, 60, 70 gear, and heck, only run LOTA once to unlock ST and get carried through that for free ilvl 100 gear. Don't even get me started on the previous broken Hunt system. I WISH what you said was true. A lot of the ilvl 50-90 is just skipped now.

Lol, it was so funny to see that paranoia before patch hahaha, i think there is people that still thinks ninja was nerfed xD
