Hi all,
So I'm slowly getting Sols and Poetics...and I was just wonder what should my first purchase be?
Body? Leg? Accessories?
I think it all depends on your job for SMN I have heard the doublet and pants are good. I am not sure on the other jobs but this site can help you make your decision

Some people like to go for the cheapest upgrades first while others save for the upgrades that provide the biggest stat boost first. Accessories are the cheapest, but body armour (closely followed by leg armour) provides a bigger stat boost. I went with body first, then legs, then the rest of the left-side armour slots, then accessories. However, if you're reaching (or nearing) max level in multiple jobs that rely on similar stats, accessories also have the advantage of being usable by multiple jobs.
(Of course, in any job, your weapon is the biggest stat-booster of all, since it controls the all-important damage stat, but there's multiple upgrade paths there. I'm assuming relic upgrades for the weapon and putting Tomestones towards armour.)
Partly it depends on what you've got right now, especially with soldiery (since it's not capped). For poetics, I'd go with whatever piece was the best for your class in absolute terms. Then go for the biggest upgrade compared to your current gear with soldiery (e.g., replace an i49 ring before replacing i70 boots, even if i100 boots offer more overall stats than an i100 ring). The higher you get your average iLvl, the easier it gets to farm soldiery.
If your play time isn't going to let you farm soldiery at a decent clip (e.g., you just have time to cap poetry each week and no additional soldiery past that), you might consider doing that with poetry, too, just to get your iLvl as high as you can.
I'd suggest you to buy those accessories to boost up your ilv without spending much on tomes
since you just reached 50 (from what I saw recently on forum)
so if your ilv is high enough, you'll start to earn those tomes easier and you can just farm clothes from Syrcus tower
If you just hit 50, I'd concentrate firstly on capping poetics, secondly on running ST as much as possible, and really nevermind soldiery gains -- you'll want to get to at least 1300 to buy Rowena's tickets. Combine those with an unidentified allagan tomestone, which should be pretty simple to get from ST and you've already got a good weapon. Make sure you also have a sands of time available to use on said weapon. With luck you'll have at least i100 on the left side from ST, so I'd actually suggest buying a ring with poetics. After that I'd fill in the left side, but that's me. After buying your soldiery weapon, gradually upgrade your accessories to soldiery and upgrade them with oils of time. After that swap out left side ST items for soldiery items and upgrade them with sands of time, or buy poetics items for the left side.
EDIT: Sorry if this incorrectly assumes you can get into Syrcus Tower. If not, aim for that. Obviously any drops that are upgrades should be worn and upgrading accessories is the fastest way to increase your ilvl.
I guess something to add on about armor. Is there any difference from the armor you get from Wolf Marks from pvp? Like is this a viable set of armor to use for pve or can it only be used in pvp?
Awesome. So it wouldn't be a bad investment then? or is there something else better to spend the wolf marks on?
If you're to level up desyn skills, it's pretty useful to purchase ilv70/80 for grinding, and ilv100 class pvp gears looks awesome.
Desynthesis is, an action to breakdown items in order to gain its components, which may only be able to obtain through the desyn process.
for example, demimateria, which is used for making "master" recipe crafting. Or elemental core from primal weapons, which is used to make new primal weapon (you can go search for moogle weapons on marketboard)
so, basically, if you want to obtain special items, you'll need to breakdown (mostly) high level items, and this has chances to fail, so you'll need to breakdown low lv stuffs until you're good enough to breakdown big stuffs (max at lv 100)
So after spending the whole weekend in the Borderland Ruins. I was able to cap out my poetic and purchase a weathered body piece with soldiery. Also used the wolf marks to get the i70 accessories.
Does this seem like a good strat for now till I finish my main story quest and start doing HM dungeons?
Capping poetics every week then purchase a Ironwork piece when I can, purchasing weathered armor with soldiery till I get my Ironwork armor, and use wolf marks to upgrade accessories?
Yup. You can get accessories with Soldiery as well, don't forget!
Either way yes, Frontlines (Borderland Ruins) and Hunting are the best way to get tomestones before you're done the main game. Once you are done the main game and have all the expert dungeons finished, you can score like 70 Poetics and a chunk of soldiery once per day via Expert Roulette and start racking up tons of soldiery just by playing other things of course.
Once you do have all ironworks gear only other thing would be a weapon if you don't want to go the long and very boring atma route.
As for the PVP gear i myself am not into PVP much but thought of that gear more so as glamour :)
Do also note that the ST gear is not all that bad for now either if you are just hitting level 50 for the first time. Some of the gear is even better the the soldiery gear, depending on class of course and what sort of stats you prefer
You can spend them to gear up alternate classes. You'll also be able before long to start purchasing various soldiery-obtained items that are used in your relic quest, which is a pretty good sink for them... or if worst comes to worst I think you can blow them on materials still (they sell for pretty decent money on the market board, or at least should).
