Airship battles still coming?!

Am I totally just making this up?

I have a vivid memory that around the time of XIV's announcement they talked about the airship battles in XIV and how they would be more complex than the fights happening on XI ships.

I remember being very excited for this feature since I really enjoyed XI's sea battles and always hoped for something more complex.


If they're still working on this please consider more environment interaction than in other fights please.

I think it's very impressive how Monster Hunter 3Tri manages to create sea-battles with controls designed only for close range combat.

Can you imagine what a fight with one of those massive dragons you see in the opening would be like on an airship?



I'm not saying they should copy MH3Tri but like in that boss fight jumping off the ship on the back of a massive air-dragon to do damage on specific body parts would be pretty sweet.

If it was an idea of the previous dev team or never on the table I'd really like them to consider future content like that for the incoming airships.

Having another ship where you spend time watching minimal scenery while doing nothing like on the ferry is not that crucial to add to the game since we're already warping all over the place within seconds.

Almost all of the FF titles have on-deck airship fights. It's 2011 isn't it time to aim a little higher than that?

I only remember hearing about ship battles. Nothing about "air"ships... but.. I think that could be really fun. :x
Especially PvP/LSvs.LS airship battles. >:3 Perhaps some rival LSs or sky pirate wannabes could go at it. :D

Uh, I've never heard anything about Airship battles, maybe you're confusing Skies of Arcadia with FFXIV somehow. They mentioned ship battles and that there will be group crafting to create weaponry for ships.

That's the level of creativity i expect and like to see for this game!

I would really like to see pirate airships and ships actually approach us and take over, instead of a random spawn, too dull that way, need some thrill in it.

Well that was disappointing to hear but I hope they still consider doing air-battles =(

As much as I love airships in general I see little point in spending 5mins on a deck doing nothing in this game where I can just warp anywhere in seconds.

Especially if the airships don't stop anywhere except the main cities which I assume is the current plan then.

There have to be airship battles. How do we fight against the Garlean Empire when they bring their Battleship over the city states? Throw Javelin up?

Maybe we will be able to group-craft Moogle Anti-Air Rail Gun, and shoot Elemental-Overcharged-Moogle-Warhead (EOMW).

We have had burning threads discussing the removal of collision detection because making running through the fields comfortable was supposedly too difficult otherwise and you're talking about dynamic environments? Walking on a MOVING dragon?

More than half a year after release had to pass to get a standard working UI and in the videos you showed people use static cannons as if it was Battlefield, with projectiles flying through the air and hitting enemies as big as mountains in the distance....
Years will pass before we get something remotely close to that in FFXIV, if ever. I simply don't believe the team and engine can accomplish that.

The "higher complexity of ship battles" intended is probably a higher number of enemy waves and enemy types involved, requiring some strategy to be defeated efficiently, but i seriously doubt it will be something more complicated than the FFXI version.
