Never; too much clutter, not conducive to targeting.
Minions roaming our yard or private room, needs to happen.
Actually, early in the Beta you could bring minions into instances (specifically, dungeons), but as players complained about accidentally targeting them all the time it was requested to have the ability to summon them in dungeons removed, which SE complied. So I don't think this will be brought back as a result.
Think roaming may be difficult as they need to program in collisions and physics for your furnishing for roaming path.
The succubus can stay on my bed though :/
Imagine raids with 24 minions
They should get on adding this quick, considering we can pay money to buy these from the mog station now for more minions.
Just make them untargetable in instances then.
They should make them untargetable and drop the huge nametag above their head. The name alone typically covers up someone's minion, lol.
Eh it's about visual fidelity also... making the untargetable only does so little, they still ruin your view & would kill immersion (my little plushie teddy bear is out while I'm destroying Bahamut!).
Fair point, but I would argue this one extra thing would be going too far (as if bikini snowmen weren't already :P).
Especially because often not everyone is a Bikini-clad Snowman... you'd like much more commonly have a greater number of players with their Minions out.
And a tank glamored as a Snowman or in a bikini tanking Bahamut would not kill immersion? because we can do that o_O so visual fidelity is not the reason.
Really though, they're just visual clutter and some people click to target mobs since tab targeting is still atrociously bad - minions would just get in the way. Maybe if they fix tab targeting to function more like WoW's, but until then please no.
Seems like it would work just fine if they made them untargetable specifically during instanced duties, and also used a much smaller font size for their name/owner. If clutter is an issue during 24-man stuff, remove the nameplates from them during that.
You can remove their nameplates anyway in the nameplate settings.
Making them untargetable would take most of the fun of having a minion out in the first place (/handover, /pet, /beckon etc.) I'm just speaking for myself, but I have little interest in minions that just look cute but do nothing interactive.
Personally I just wish I didn't have to resummon them all the time - I should be able to have one out while fighting with my chocobo, or it should just resummon automatically after exiting a duty if I had one out.
What they need to do is;
1. Make minions stay out when you mount yourself. Just have them increase in speed to match your mount speed, make them hop on the mount with you, whatever. I know I would love to have my succubus sit on my shoulder while I ride my mounts.
2. Make minions summonable if you have your chocobo out. I don't understand why you cant to begin with.
3. Make minions summonable in dungeons. As others have said, make them untargetable and remove their nameplate, do whatever, but not being able to show them off unless you're on foot doing nothing is pretty boring.
In 24 man raids I could understand not being able to summon them, hell maybe even 8 man, but in 4 man dungeons I see no harm at all in allowing minions to be summoned. If people don't like it, tough, join premades where you all agree to not summon your minion, but just because you don't like it doesn't mean others should suffer as well.
If lack of immersion due to something like this is ruining your experience, then I have news for you son.
Roaming minions in our gardens or homes/FC homes would be awesome. In dungeons not so much <3
Yeah, that's a pretty scary thought. I don't want to have to tab through all that chaos. I guess they could make them unselectable while in dungeon but if you had anything over 4 player and everyone had a minion out... :/
Do people actually tab through targets other than enemies? I've been tanking since 2.0, and I have never, ever, EVER tabbed to something that was not an enemy target.
Yeah, you're right, it's late here and I wasn't thinking. In XI it pretty much tabbed through everything. Still, in 8 man dungeons you'd have a head count of 16, and 24 man raids would be 48 if everyone queued with a minion out which would be the case for the first few day at least until the new wore off. IMO that's a lot of needless visual confusion.
This would be overkill.
These three words, combined with the fact that some people actually DO manually click targets, is the reason why minions will never appear in dungeons.
I hate to sound like an "elitist," but dungeons and raids are not dog shows. Most minions are either small animals or incredibly valuable pieces of machinery. Ask yourself for the sake of practicality: If you were a football player, would you bring your toy poodle to the game and have it out on the field? No matter how well behaved, that's no place for Mr. Flufficus.
Yes please! I'd love to see minions, they're such a special part of FFXIV.
There should be an achievement for collecting over 100 minions.
