I live in NY and i have Verizon Fios, between the times of 8pm-11pm EST, i have SEVERE LAG PROBLEMS, so bad that i cant even craft. I have had this problem since 2.3 came out and it just keeps getting worse. I have absolutely no problems doing anything outside Final Fantasy. How do i know? i am able to stream shows on Hulu, Netflix and Crunchyroll. Ventrillo ping is 50 when connected to a pacific server and my Teamspeak Ping is the same.
So please fix this problem. I have already talked to my ISP multiple times and they say there is nothing wrong with my connection. Just when I play Final Fantasy.:mad::mad::mad:

There is nothing wrong with your connection
There is nothing wrong with Squares connection.
What there is a problem with, is your greedy isp, and other greedy american isp's refuse to expand their connections to third party peering networks unless they are paid (by these third party networks) to do so.
So what happens is that during the hours you have indicated, congestion occurs due to all the people watching netflix and using other internet services where these connections join, and not only does data get delayed, it also gets lost.

The servers are to weak!!
Also the emotes of spells (just the effect when it hits you) from other people is in time. But where you see them and when you see the spell progress as there movement is more then a second late.
And about ISP, SquareEnix has NOT supported IPv6, that caused to decrease the possibility’s of routing.

If your ping is truly "fine and consistent", then you wouldn't be experiencing network lag.
Pings are one of the first things that get sent to lower priority in the traffic shaping policies when congestion is detected in route. The TCP protocol can also throw it's own mechanism in as well when it detects high error rates/congestion.
So, if your route is clean as you say, then you should not be experiencing the lags, just like so many others do not when their routes are clean.
Oh, and this game is NOT hosted in the USA, so that is not a fair comparison. -

I know that this game is not in the USA but in Canada, lvl3 is one link from EU to USA so I did not explain it any further.
my ping is 120 at day and reaches 130 at prime-time and never beyond, no packetloss.
So my ping is fine and consistent. And where do the lags come from? Ask SquareEnix.
I also said that the spell emotes reaches in time (from one player to another) which I know cause my girlfriend an I are playing side by side. I can see that she starts her cast a second after she did on her PC, but the emote when the heal hits me fits just fine but when I jump it needs a second that it can be seen on her screen. The positions of the player characters are wrong almost all the time. When I start moving the game needs a second (maybe more) to show it to others same for interface but heal casts reach in perfect timing.
So:
ping is constant
heal casts are in time
till the heal effects (interface) it takes a second
damage effects are in time
needs 300-600ms until the game recognize that your character is moving when you're casting and same the other way
damage taken (interface) is a second late
and every thing else is late
and now please tell me who's fault this is!
It is not my ISP and it is not my PC, what or who is left but a weak server or lousy programming?
This errors and lags were in no other game I played before (and I played a lot MMORPGs!)

Experiment:
ask a (ingame)friend of yours to help you with al little experiment if this is just a bad ping, just takes a few minutes. Your friend locks camera on target (you) and steps as close as he can, now he starts running to the left (orbit you) and you observe from above if he really runs a perfect circle, it is just the ping. But if not (it looks like a triangle to me) the error is within the game or its servers. Remember a max distance of 1 to 5 yalmes

You are mistaking Ping with Latency.
Pinging is just a method of observing round trip Latency.
Since you don't (didn't) even know that, I cannot trust anything you have to say on the matter.
Raist and myself have exhausted ourselves trying to figure this out for ourselves and all of the evidence has pointed towards American corporate greed, and their unwillingness to properly neutralise and regulate the internet service as a utility domain. -

I do know what RTD is.
So, at 130ms RTD (the time from my pc to FFXIV server and back including processing times of all routing points between) it still needs a second to update my UI (buffs, debuffs, life of other group members and so on) and the positions of other player characters. Why does it take so long to get this information when the time from server to my pc is about half the RTD (about 65ms).
Please explain this because I do not understand (I really don't)
So it seems American corporate is not the only problem there is (and it is not mine, at least not any more) there are issues with ISPs also in Europe and these problems are hard to find and harder to bypass. So I do understand your point of view and agree. But my problems still exists even when my routing is directly to Canada (avoiding US). At least my main issue will remain as long as these servers are incapable of handling this amount of players/data. -

130ms is just past 1/8 a second. The game updates positional data 3 times a second, roughly every 333ms. When your "consistant" ping goes out of whack and a packet gets delayed/dropped and calls for a retransmit (note that ACK's only happen on every OTHER packet by default, so that is every 260ms, not 130ms... so this happens far more often than people are aware), you may have just crossed that 333ms barrier and your packets are now out of order. This causes a slight noticeable jitter, as you just got potentially 1/2 a second (or more) out of sync. Now... if that happens twice in one second, now you are over 1 second out of synch. And so and so and so forth.
That's just a "laymen's" version to explain it without getting into the exact numbers and mechanics of it. About as much as I can dumb it down without getting all technical on you.
EVERY line is subject to jitter and errors--it is NEVER EVER EVER 100% "consistant". It can be consistant down to within a range of MS, but it is never going to be a flat value. It's just not physically possible because of how the waveform itself skews across the wire. Oops.. about to go off into technical realm again...
Simply put, your signal skews naturally, and there are tons of things that can skew it further when you are hopping through 3 or more different people's networks, across a dozen or so routers/servers, and covering hundreds or even thousands of miles of different transfer media (copper, aluminum, glass fiber). Without doing a proper diagnosis of your line conditions (ie, not just pinging a server here and there) you are NOT getting even the slightest hint of what is really going on with your QoS.
And it's not just me and Squall looking into this. There are people far more knowledgeable (at least than myself, Squall probly remembers more about this stuff than I've forgotten the last 10 years) looking into our infrastructure problems--and they have posted lots of whitepapers on the issues, and even filed complaints with the regulators and the FCC as well. So, yes... you likely have issues in route. You just aren't looking at it properly. -

West Coast region has one... let me restate that ONE primary path into Canada on that side of the country. EVERYTHING else for the US goes through the Great Lakes/North East corridors just to get across the border into Canada. Access is for more restricted to Montreal than just about any other city in the US. So comparing this game to ANYTHING hosted in the US is likely to be an apples to oranges comparison.Quote:

Just a handful of maps I found via a quick google search. I've posted a handful off them in previous threads. We have a major choking point getting into Canada because we are basically funnelled into one of 3 top tier providers to get in there, and amongst them are 7 paths to get over the border from the US (it's a few more physical routes, but they flow through the same cities, so it's like 7 "highways" so to speak, just some are 2 lanes, some are 4 or 8 lanes for a simpler explanation).
This is what is causing our issues with our lag. You have peering/transit agreements that are only using 50% (or less) of potentially available connectivity from these top tier ISP's... simply because our ISP's don't want to pony up the one time cost of $2-10k per upgrade (some of which these top-tiers have even offered to split the bill with them to do), or the ongoing cost to maintain those connections. They just want to keep plodding along with their 10-40Gb access like they've done for nearly a decade now, but keep increasing our local bandwidth (and jacking up our prices to boot), without ALSO expanding the bandwidth at the higher tiers
Effectively, they are funnelling more water into the same size hose, hoping to fill a bigger bucket faster--but it doesn't work that way. Eventually, the funnel can't take on anymore water and it starts sloshing all over the ground because that hose can only deliver at the same flow rate it always has in the past.
They either need to buy a bigger hose, or they need to buy more hoses and buckets. -

333ms from the game to ask what you are doing at this and only this moment plus RTD = half a second (maybe more) to late from what really happens in the game, means that many players can't react in time on boss mechanics. This is what most people here will experience as „server lags“ !!!
THATS the big problem, and this problem is just a SE problem, never had it in any other MMMORPGs (free to play or abo).
If SE just fix this most players will be fine! -
