SE please isn't it time?
I agree. A necessary feature indeed!

As long as you can disable duel requests or be required to put up some kind of flag stating you are will to accept duel requests.
I've played too many games in the past where random duel requests were used to troll people.
No. I don't want to constantly be denying dual requests. It's extremely annoying.
What Tiggy said.
Read what Ladon said.
This is going to cause more bad blood between players.
Yes please! I would love to duel my friends, and it would also help me out practicing against every class in a one vs one situation.
Also if (when) I defeat them I can't send them tells all day telling them how awesome I am.
We need duels!
Edit: Lol and we could challenge people in dungeons
"You suck!"
"I don't suck! Wannawananwan?!!"
(wanna one on one)
I swear they mentioned something about the possibility of adding dueling inside housing areas, I can't remember where though but it was either in an interview or a live letter. Anyway like it's been said, they could just make an option to disable requests in Search Info and have it disabled for everyone by default if they ever implement it, problem solved.
Why should the heroes of Eorzea behave like a munch of drunken frat boys getting into fights outside a bar? This is so inappropriate. Keep the fighting in sanctioned PvP zones. The just need to extend PvP to let people pre-form the opposing factions, so they can conduct tournaments or something.
I never got trolled with duel on WoW, but they can make it so that you click on an option in your character settings that blocks invites to duels, and also add a feature that if you reject a duel that person can't invite you to a duel in the next five minutes. This way it can never be spammed, problem solved. Whoever leaves that unchecked can accept duels anywhere at any time.
We have a somewhat better community than WoW, so I don't expect it to be something common for people to spam invite dueling. I think most people would be polite and ask for a duel.
One thing I don't get about this FF14 community is their unwillingness to see new things added to the game, they are so used to how things are that changes scare the crap out of them.
Welcome more options for the game, it makes it better, more diverse, stop complaining about stuff being added that can make certain people happy, you aren't the freaking center of the universe.
That's the thing, we have examples of existing things in other mmo's, what can we do? Just make it better. We see ppl abuse dueling in WoW (Apparently) then make it so that people don't abuse it, problem solved. But this tendency to say "no no no" doesn't help at all.
This is the kind of stuffs that keep happening in games like Aion, even with a disabled duel option you will always be bugged by people named as "xxsephiroth cloud" or "naruto ftw" randomly telling you with a simple : dudu? / duel?.... all day long....
I don't want to end black listing half of the server X.X, huge NO to OP request.
Yeah, I need that blacklist space for this RMT spammer problem that hasn't gotten better at all. :U I really don't see the point though, you already have your pvp in the game. If you want different options for it then ask SE to make it an addition to the Wolves' Den or something, I don't wanna have to deal with the stupidity of the more annoying but not technically rule-breaking members of the community (which makes up for most randoms I encounter, even if ours is allegedly "better than WoW's") more than I already do in the overworld.
...
You people AREN'T GETTING IT.
It'd be a one-click thing to disable duel-requests.
You wouldn't have to individually blacklist anyone.
You wouldn't get spammed.
It'd be on your terms & yours alone.
It's not just Duel-Request Spams there other kind of spam....
People who see that we got it on disable will ask us why we don't want to PVP. tell us name (weak, chicken, other name) or to piss us off spam trade window (do we have to disable that too) to please you guy of have PVP .... spam us /Tell .... tell FC or friends and bring them to kill all mobs around us that we need for quest ..... Just to make us say ok ill pvp you .. and we lose and then he can /shout "Player name" is weak i killed him .....
i had those experience in other game ....i dont have to disable anything for you guy .... ASK for an 1vs1 Arena in Wolves' Den ..
^so blist the few who do that and/or report them for harassment.
I though that there is DF , DR , PF for that ..and anyway people charge for RUN .....but PVP there no DF / DR / PF ..there only DF for team pvp or raid ....so we are sure to get spam cos the only way they have to PVP is to go to people.cos PVP player love to chalenge everyone..to know if they better then all server
But people who need to finish raid mostly ask FC or just DF or shout or do PF ...
The big blue "you don't get it" post is hilarious from someone so thoroughly missing the point. But seriously, just ask for them to add it as a Wolves' Den option. That way PVPers can stay in their own corner and not bother the rest of us.
He's requested that. Everyone just said "this' dumb, just ask for dueling in the open-world".
Additionally, he's not the one who missed the point. His response was in regards to all the people spewing about having to deny duel requests for which he set them straight.
The naysayers are exaggerating SO hard it's not even funny.
Only a handful of players would be so harassing, it's not too hard to blist or report them.
Our blists are much, much smaller with the reduced RMT count now anyway.
As well, your very minor, personal annoyance is not a great reason to prevent this feature altogether.
IMO, this games PvP is a joke. 1v1 will be horribly boring.
Wolve's Den is boring as tits.
I say go ahead and add it though, nothing wrong with more options, but have a disabled request
thing and I'm all in for it.
As for the RMT defense, the amount of RMT's aren't bad for me from Leviathan and Balmung.
I see them once a day if that, but I won't speak for other servers.
Idk man, NIN v. NIN duels will be spectacular.
Sure many matchups won't be viable whatsoever but that doesn't matter... this feature's just for the kicks anyway.
I have had some intense 1v1's in the Den though, I will say that.
Yeah, your woes regarding to blist a handful of people are not justification enough to never allow any of the rest of us to duel one another.
I'm assuming a lot of you have never actually enjoyed a duel. Duels are fun, and considering this is based off a JRPG, it makes perfect sense that fellow hero's would test skill against each other. Dueling systems usually have an auto-deny feature so you don't have to worry about being spammed. It doesn't effect PVE in the slightest because you can't balance 1v1. There is literally no negative to adding dueling. It just add's another mode of entertainment to the game.
Dueling also open's up the world to players. I remember dueling on the floating islands in Out Realm not only for scenery, but the possibility of ring outs as well. Now look at Eorzea. We have a lot of beautiful local's that can be used for dueling vids, which bring's even greater interest to the game.
A majority of my FC mates are dying for dueling so that we can hold tournaments.
Wrong. This is not WoW where you have the whole Alliance vs Horde thing - here we're all on the same side regardless of national allegiances. Really, lets not mince words here. This all about ego and nothing else.
Of course, if it was a restricted, tournament thing in a specific location (such as the Colosseum in Ul'dah or the soon-to-be-added Gold Saucer) that isn't part of the main game, thus avoiding the whole issue of harassment which has forever tainted my opinion on 1vs1 duelling in MMOs, then I'm all for it.
But open world duelling... no. Just... no.
I still don't see how auto-deny isn't avoiding harassment. I mean hell, every time I wanna check the market board or my retainer I have to deal with several lalafell running around doing as many emotes as possible with the highest possible voices.
Also, it is kinda Maelstrom/Immortal Flames/Twin Adder. They work together, doesn't mean they all get along. You also had Alliance Dueling Alliance and Horde dueling Horde. This isn't about ego or harassment. This is about opening up another avenue of fun.
So you auto-deny a duel and the person does a tell or emote showing disapproval. Black list, done.
^ Yep, pretty much.
Sad thing is, the OP actually started with a good idea on another thread, the 1v1 in the wolves' den pier seems like a feature a lot of people would enjoy for sure. This new proposal isn't appropriate in a main PVE game like FFXIV though.
Back on this thread, just no... if you re really in need to boost your ego at a level that you MUST be able to challenge anyone anywhere... this isn't the right game for you, FFXIV isn't one of the many "korean-mmo pvp/pve" as Aion or ArcheAge we get all around.
2 solutions :
1) If you want to test your player skill level in this game, build your raid team and go challenge coil / ex primals.
2) Not interested by PVE? Then you may reconsider your room in this game.
Here's the thing alot of PvP people seem to want to pretend doesn't exist. The harassment. It's real, it happens, and it's unavoidable. Square, though, doesn't want to force people to have to deal with it if they can help it. It's why there's Wolves' Den and Frontlines and not open world like what's being suggested here (for the umpteenth time). Sure, a completely voluntary duel system is completely voluntary, but as has been said there will be those that see it as mandatory. And will do everything in their power to make you see it that way, too. Everything. And in this RMT /tell world we don't have enough resources to deal with immature egotists AND RMT at the same time. This is, again, best left as a Wolves' Den mode than open world. Wolves' Den has it's own aetheryte, it's not hard to go there and satisfy your itch.
@Atomnium, sad thing is most of the posters in there were saying "this' pointless, just allow dueling in the open-world!".
Then may god have mercy on their souls, the number of interesting posters on this forum is probably less than a couple of dozen...
Why would you want to integrate a feature like "free duel option in openworld" that will 100% lead to even more harassment in this game. I let you imagine the number of problems the GMs team would have to handle in addition to current ones... It's common and basic logic, it got proved in many other mmos.
My advice, just let this thread and the egotists dies in this one, your first idea about 1v1 in wolves' den arenas should deserve more views, because it's not only a clever idea, it's actually a true solo pvp content that would please a lot of people. And I'm going to bump with a thumb-up your first thread right now.
In every MMO i been that there is PVP ..duel request ..i got harrassed alot that why i dont play anymore free or any other MMO i only have FF14 on my PC ...
I GOT tired of getting out of town and directly get duel request when you just started the game and if you dont you get follow around all time and even after log off and back on he is still near and come back sending request ...
Doing a quest fighting monster and getting duel request (cos i fight with some friends only) and get kill cos you got suprise and couldnt heal in time....
Have the request off ... the guy wait you fight a monster come as quick and do a trade request making you get yourself kill cos you said no to duel ....
Dont tell me that never happen cos i lived it and that why i only play with ff14 and other game are single player.
I support the 1vs1 idea i love it .....but not in open world dual request pls ... they could put arena around the world ..when you enter the circle its unlock duel request.
^My friend had another request involving open-world arenas & people mostly flamed it because it would take up their precious PvE space.
I swear so many of the PvP haters on these forums are so incredibly selfish lol.
I've tried to come up with reasonable compromises but alas.
