The group I was with was also dumbfounded at the mechanics. We kinda just went full out on him burning him down before he could kill us all.
In the end, I as tank, was the only one left standing. The adds near the end were way overwhelming.
The final boss fight was no pushover either!
I love the difficulty though.
Honestly all that we did in that dungeon was attack and hard. XD I don't know if there are specific mechanics, I think we just got lucky that he targeted me (Dragoon using tank buffs) the most, but my healer also got targeted once and survive... They were in full 110 gear though.
I think it has to do with healer awareness. We wiped a few times there too. After a few tries, once I got the mark healer casts stoneskin on me and just spammed cure 2 on me and that worked.
When he starts firing his musket all dps should focus on him (if any adds then ignore those adds). After he takes some damage that will stop him from getting insane amounts of damage buff stacks.
I was playing it as healer and at about middle of the fight it gets pretty intense and keeping up with the damage might get pretty tough. It was still pretty fun fight.
The theory I believe in is that there's an attack threshold on the boss (either damage dealt or attacks received) that causes him to 'miss' i.e. stop firing. It's up to DPS to pay attention when adds are up, and to focus the boss if he starts shooting before killing the remaining adds.
Attack priority is Captain Madison (when firing musket) > adds > Captain Madison (not firing musket)
The last two posts are accurate, while he's shooting the dps need to deal enough damage to make him stop. he has text that says he's hurting. We just used blm LB on the final wave of mobs and nuked them with a two blm party.
problem is the grabbing add loves to get the healer so..
Dunno if anyone grabbed by the Captain's Slave noticed, but you're not actually stunned, you just can't move. So long as the DPS and Tank keep the other adds off whoever's grabbed, there shouldn't be any trouble with that part of the fight.
The boss I had trouble with was the first one. Does anyone know if there's some sort of gimmick to the fight, or is it just a hardcore DPS race that you have to throw everything and the kitchen sink at in order to win? My only victory against it felt like complete and total luck...
Yes you are not stunned, but binded. It is just like the zombies during the Siren fight at Pharos Sirus, just binded to the floor.
But if your team mates doesn't stop the boss from firing his gun at you.. GG you are confirmed dead.
I recalled last night the boss fired like 10 plus shots at me and no, Cure II spam and Benediction won't save you because he will shoot you until you die if not stopped.
From my exp as I just finished it a few minutes ago, it kind of sucks for /ra as trying to get out of range for his tail attack (forget the name of it). I found it easier to be right behind him so it was easier to straffe and around him so the move never went off.
Good time to have your Paladin use Cover, it's quite useful there ;)
For the second boss we could get 2 things to happen to get him to stop firing, the "oww that hurts" if you do enough damage to him and the "aaagh how did I miss". We could only get the first one to happen consistently. I have no idea how to make the second one happen :S
The scorpion boss was pathetically easy.
You can STUN the Tail Screw >_>
We hit the timer end at this boss, but we are thinking it seems to be one of those heal to full mechanics to stop the bosses gunfire attack.
Idk what you talk about.... when I did first time we did all under 30m without any wipe. Also idk what Madison does or is when he start casting that long skill like Odin? If is that we just LBed him ignoring the last adds while someone kited them.
But someone in my FC was getting wipes and since never seen any sort of mechanic beside the adds I thought he was easy xD (maybe need to rerun to see if that happen and i was on mnk).
The only dungeon I got 1 wipe was on snowcloack on yeti due not know that we mustn't kill the sprigans :X
He does a debuff on the MT and after a few seconds he stuns the person with that debuff. Another player (melee) should go hug the tank and get the debuff from the tank. This way the tank does not get stunned.
The huge damage move the boss does can be stunned, so that is why it is good to avoid the tank being stunned, so he is free to stun the boss :D
The firing attack is based off the damage stacks he has. When his stack got big in the end, we Limit break, and then he does not fire so hard.
All you do is dps him when he is firing, it has the similar mechanic in qarn (hard). It was weird some reason my group struggled on the last boss but we got it after though lol
We burned him down, killing the adds removed bind I think.
I was a WHM there and I died because he decided to musket spam me to death first (joy) then the SMN forgot that he could ress (>>) and the only one left standing was the WAR.
Out of the new dungeons I enjoyed Qarn the best, final boss is ridiculously funny especially when everyone is new.
I like and hate the sastasha last boss. Its so anti caster is insane, I had a BLM, SMN, WAR and WHM (me) in the group and we could barely get any skills off before the clear out spam started. I also said to my group "the tentacles will come out those pools and we gotta kill them" before we started and I basically predicted the future of the fight. Predictable mechanics are boring, only thing that caught us off guard is if you don't down his tentacles he does worlds end which basically ohko's casters (GREAT).
you only need to kill 2 tentacle near the entrance and stay at that side then caster like BLM can hit the boss, no need to kill all tentacle. About world end, IF the hp of caster (assume ilvl 100) is full or at 3k hp, you will not die, world end deal around 2k+ dmg
An easier way to deal with the fight (albeit, takes a bit longer) is to focus down the {Krakens Arms} and ignore the Tentacles. Kill enough Arms and he wont do the KO shot.
It take slonger because you're spending less time on boss, but it makes the fight pretty easy.
Krakens Arms -> Kraken Main Body - ignore Tentacles.
World End is the spinning whirlwind ? I see the word : World End pop but all I do is loss a few K hp (2k+) and not even down to 1k
I ran the dungeon 2 times yesterday with 2 different group, 1 DF and 1 pre-make
the first group we only kill 2 (arm or tentacle doesn't matter, just 2) and we sometime got the spinning whirlwind that does some k dmg (2k+)
the second group we kill everything and we don't get any of the whirlwind
So I gues it was luck that my first group advoide the one shot mechanic ?
that was a tough fight. my first blind run through one-shot it, but both dps died during madison's trigger-happy phase and i only survived by popping HG.
My group wiped a bunch on this one. We tried the fight over and over while testing single theories. We were not really overgeared for this dungeon. At least two of us were < ilvl 100 (just so you know).
A couple things we learned:
DON'T ever stop attacking when he starts shooting. >< I think we got up to 20 someodd stacks on that. (Had to check.).
We tried spinning him as he shot. This isn't it either, but we think we glitched him once cause he stopped moving for quite some time and just stood there complaining. :/ (We didn't get through the dungeon this way.)
When he rushes someone, the others attack his back. This seemed successful.
No matter what, going day one into new dungeons with a group of friends is one of the most fun things about the game (imo of course :) ). Hope yall have fun trying the fights!
As PLD, I used cover when he was shooting the healerr. If cover was a CD i spammed Stoneskin on the healer. We one shot him on the first go.
Wow, this part was actually hard, as a tank I had to go great lengths to make sure we won, and weird thing, on one of the spots in the action bar(ps4) I had a macro for hunts, for some reason before the fight I change it for cover instead (could be because hunts are pretty much dead for the most part, so I figure I would use a pally skill I never really used all this time playing as one) and it ended up helping us clear that fight.
Yeah the only problem with that is in PUGs healers are probably not used to the tank actually using cover. I ran up to our healer and covered him but, since he knew he was being targeted, he kept healing himself and I died. Not sure how he didn't notice my health falling and throw me a heal but, oh well. :P
Many things happen in PUGS. I've very rarely seen a tank use cover in PUGs, and none so far in Sastasha HM on the second boss. I even have trouble getting people to stay close and behind captain Madison. The question is how many effective ways are there to stop the musketfire?
I think some of the other people have it right. The way to stop it is to damage him enough. Our problem was that everyone went for the adds when they popped instead of hitting the boss. We tried other things like trying to run around him but it doesn't seem like you can dodge the shots or anything like that.
I guess no one noticed the little bird.
My group spent most of the dungeon's timer figuring it out but after reading this forum, it seems just hitting him really hard does the trick.
Burn him as much as you can, especially when he shoots his gun. If he's not firing and there's adds up use that time to kill the adds, but otherwise burn him!!
se made this dungon as a means to stop speed running and to make every one work together in df other than that it is a dps/tank/healer race
No, first boss is healer awareness. Second boss is dps awareness.
Because if you're not careful, Captain Madison can shoot 20+ times - you are not healing through that. It reaches the point he can kill someone in thetime it takes to cast one spell.
Dps needs to be very focused.
