As the title suggests, what will it be. It's a hard decision on my part as I am behind the curve. It will be tough to get rid of some of my soldiery gear, dat shield doe.
If anything it will be Body > Shield > Legs.

I won't be able to see it until I go back from work, but in my case, maybe the ring if it's good, since I don't have the Noct and the Weathered Noct but the Noct and the ilvl90. I usually start replacing the lowest ilvl items. I planned to get the weathered ring but now I might skip it. Since I have other classes, I bought first the coats and used sands for WHM and BLM ASAP, and the PLD second ring had to wait, coats that would be upgraded with sands looked like a better place to spend soldiery tomes than a second ring.
The coat usually is the one who has best stats, but needs 2 weeks to obtain, if you get a cheaper item you can start profiting from it earlier. Only someone that needs better gear to fulfill the ilvl requirement would really be interested, if not it's not that important really, so the coat might be a better first buy even if you have to wait a bit more to use it.
The ring is almost a shoe-in for BiS, since you only get one coil ring and one tomestone ring. Unless you want to use crafted rings and meld, which is a good third option.
After that you might consider waiting until you know what drops in which turn. For example, if the helm drops off the final turn, I'd buy the helm with tomestones.
Tried on the healer gear this morning and I absolutely love it. It's gorgeous. Nice combination of stats too; seems to be a nice mix of SCH/WHM stats.
I will be getting body, then boots, then gloves, then legs, then head.
Always do left side first.
I am going to skip the VIT accessories altogether.
Depending on ACC requirements for final coil and drop locations I'm going:
Body > legs > feet (bis) > head (bis) > belt (bis) > hands
Then STR right side.
Wyrm feet are from t1, not sure on the other slots.
I would only get shield if you can i130 it, i120 is barely better then Ha shield or nexus.
Bard chest and pants seem terrible, so might go with belt this week and gloves next week? Thinking about a melded 110 chest and pants....
This is for tanks so Bard gear doesn't really apply, but now that you bring it up. The i110 hq melded stuff looks amazing, except not for tanks.
That being because of the terrible Defense rating on it compared to 120 or 130 gear.
Wootz (HQ) has the same Def as HA/Noct gear and only 2 less then Ironworks. (3 for body and legs) Definitely not game changing since Wootz HQ can be used until you get your i120-130 piece. Just capping left side gear takes 8 weeks. Melding it properly seems like the only bad part of Wootz.
They've put Parry onto A LOT of the new Poetics gear, which is a shame as its been proven to be such a wasted stat. I've not seen the stats on the Dreadwyrm stuff yet, but hopefully I can continue to chop and change to maximise Det and Crit (Warrior).
But saying that... The chest looks sexy so I'm buying that first, and then probably legs (starting with the two most expensive pieces first), followed by Ring as it will more often than not be BiS.
I was thinking body first. But also looking at what fits into my "stat holes" better. I am all 100/110 on left. 3/5 100/110 on right. So to exchange out a piece on right it's gonna need to be some pretty good putty.
I would of course start with the i100 stuff if anything. Ran ST for a while last night and ended up with 5 sands lol. So i can completely unweather an off classes soldiery gear. That was a side bar...yea
Sorry but 2 and 3 less Defense on every piece is actually a substantial amount of flat damage mitigation. thats a total of 14 less defense if you are talking vs 120 gear, and more if you are talking about 130 gear.
Its a lot of money to burn on a sidegrade piece. While the crafted accessories last patch, were BiS all the way through this patch. It seems sort of a let down.
(14 less defense is huge)
14 is not huge, ask Foresight.
The crafted accessories were not BiS unless you were in Savage coil. The same is true of the Wootz set. Its barely better then the other i110 stuff but if you are pushing progression then its worth it.
You also can't cap i120 for 8 weeks.(left side only) i130 is all RNG from Coil since tanks are not getting sands anytime soon and when you do get a sand you'll use it on your Augmented sword.
STR/VIT are tied to the ilvl. i130 is not realistic for 99.5% of the tanks out there. Boots are confirmed from t10 that's the only i130 drop left side drop seen. Poetic i130 requires a turn 12/13 drop, both of which nobody has cleared. Anybody that is clearing 12-13 now or in the near future will not be giving that drop to a tank. When it is the tanks turn around the 5th-6th turn clear you should be using the sand equivalent on your Augmented weapon.
i120 also has higher strength but that gear is tied to a weekly tome cap. It takes 8 weeks to get your left side all i120 (not counting weapon) (825+825+495+495+375)/450
A player that plans on progressing into turns11-13 will want the i110 crafted items (melded) for progression since they are slightly better then HA/Noct once melded.
Yes, leg/pants have more total stats, but I think all the other pieces (belt/head/gloves/boots) give you more stats over your ilvl 110 gear per SLD spent. For instance, I think the body provides an extra +6/+6 str/vit over i110, but belt+gloves (about the same price) provide +6/+7 str/vit.
I think I have decided on Shield first. I am a big supporter of the Noct Hoplon and will miss it, but the Ironworks seems just to good to pass up. But my insides are telling me to save up for The chest....
/sigh...decisions decisions
Input...advice? Shield or body?
Honestly if you are not doing FCoB right now, it won't matter much which one you get first.
Go for the one you like best aesthetically.
Having said that, I think Chest > Shield simply because it has more Str and Vit :D
Not to mention for Shield it's only a jump of 5 ilvl if you have HA or Nexus, whereas for Body you get 10 ilvl worth of stats.
I c your point, but I have the Noct Hoplon only. Haven't jumped on the relic upgrade train. I am feeling inside to get the chest. As it will last me a long time. ...BUt I just dyed my Lorica GOLD lol...
I've done it. I took the time to kinda weigh my options and compare items. I have PLD/WAR and BLM to consider, so I am going to spend in this order. Also I have no plans on stepping inside FCoB anytime soon. Working on getting a static going to finish off second coil.
Head(nice bump in stats from my current Phlegethons) > Shield > Save for 2 wks > Feet(even though I have Noct in this spot, getting legs now will compensate for the losses taken when getting) > Feet
That is how it stands as of now. Definitely subject to change.
The i90 Crafted accessories are still amazing. Wootz will be left in the dust very shortly.
14 defense is huge, because its also magic defense and because +15% protect hello. Straight damage mitigation son, can't beat it. It's better than all your secondary and main stats on your wootz gear.
But I do see your point on the timeline of gear progression, and how a few pieces of wootz would greatly benefit anyone on progression.
That being said, what wootz piece would you acquire first in addition to your first poetic purchase?
Drg body. Det and enough acc to not worry about the cap for a long long time? Yeah.
DW Feet come from Turn10, but Poetic are BiS.
DW Hands come from Turn11, Poetic may more may not be BiS based on ACC.
Not sure on any other DW drops yet.
Wootz body is about equal to Ironworks i120. (6str vs 20det,29crit,10acc) So that would be a good start.
Wootz Legs vs i120 Ironworks is (6str ~11acc vs 29 det) So again close in favor of ironworks (2 weeks of poetic tomes)
Wootz Head would be 3str 27 crit vs 8det so Ironworks is better.
Tough call overall but Wootz body and legs are safe buys once Melded (used IV for 100% slots, IIIs for the rest for comparisons)
Ironworks easy buys are Feet,Belt then Head.
Shield is good if you don't have HA or Nexus or if you are getting the T11 oil.
Yah. Who knows? Now that Yoshi P announced Dark Knight as the next Tank and it focuses on Parry, perhaps the Dev Team will finally adjust / improve Parry to be a more powerful stat (one can hope). :) I'm all for giving us more meaningful Stats to mess around with and Theorycraft / Min-Max / Get Interesting Alternate Builds.
Yeah I think 3.0 will be a major overhaul with gear.
Maybe with battles as well. The current fights make parry very useless.
Yeah maybe they'll overhaul Parry a bit once Dark Knight hits. But even so, the Poetics gear will probably be all redundant by the time 3.0 hits anyway. EVERY Poetics accessory has Parry on it. I even re-melded my Relic to get rid of the 44 Parry that I had on it originally.
I do really like the look of the Poetics set though. Like the futuristic feel to it and still definitely buying the body first. Might actually go for the head second as it looks epic haha.
I'm definitely getting the shield first, since I want to replace my Soldiery shield as soon as possible (I hate its low block rate).
Full tank with the assumption that ACC will be needed to be around 525-535, and my ideal BiS for non-progression, non-savage runs
http://ffxiv.ariyala.com/O6S0
Determining on how well my healers can handle a Pally with 8800-9000 health in FCoB I'll probably go with this build (I will be using the ilvl 130 DPS bracelet and ring to up damage and avoid needless Parry)
http://ffxiv.ariyala.com/O6S7
If these are the sub-standard for BiS, including RNG factors with FCoB and just what we learn in the process, my buy order as off right now is looking something like this:
1 - Boots
2 - Helm
3 - Ring
And hopefully by the time I finish the ring our static will be entering FCoB.
Now, to those who will say that "chest and pants are first buy because more VIT/STR!"
I know. They have more of our primary stats. But I always use POE on what I will keep the longest and what is BiS or close to BiS. The chest, legs, choker, earrings, bracelet, and secondary ring are garbage in comparison to FCoB drops, when considering that Parry is a wasted stat. In other words, how shitty would it be if you spent 825 POE on the chest, only to have it drop a week or two later in FCoB? ya, POE better spent.
Anybody have comments on what WAR should spend Poetics on first?
My exp with WAR is whatever meets ACC > Det >= Crit > SS. As its been mentioned many times (that dead horse), Parry is garbage, so any gear with it has lost stats; therefore, find gear with the least amount of Parry, biggest gains in STR/VIT, and what can fit your budget when it comes to Poetics and FCoB.
>< FCoB Axe gives no ACC and a boat-load of parry. I think WD for WARs is greater than PLDs, so getting the the 135 axe is best, but 130 Axe with ACC and Crit for WAR seems pretty damn good too.
With that in mind (and back of mind being that 130 Axe gives ACC and Crit), unless you plan on downing the final turn soon, I think your best bet would be... helm, boots, and ring :D
From what I see, the Augmented Magitek Helm, Boots, and Ring are all BiS and can stay with you until at least 2.48. (Not including FCoB drops and crafted gear.)
Not really a tank but I figured I'd drop this here. Going for the body of scouting since my main (ninja) is hurting for accuracy. Also I am curious as to what tanks have to look forward too this patch since i play war and pld off and on.
Dragoon. Gotta get ready for 3.0.
Chest has been confirmed to drop in T13....again. So take that as you will if you don't plan on being there for a couple of weeks.
At least the poetics looks nice....
Got the Shield Friday night. It was a worthwhile upgrade and it looks pretty awesome. I will still be using my Noct Hoplon for SR's and large groups, can't beat that bulwark combo!!! ST(single target,,not faceroll Syrcus Tower lol) tanking will get teh poetics treatment though. I am liking it! Once reset happens I am perma grinding till I get the necessary amount for the Helm. It's sick looking!!!
Yup. Had a screenshot and everything

I'm getting the body. Bigger improvement and I don't plan on getting to T13 in at least a month :l
