So... Relic weapons stuck at lv 115 and new lv120 weapons are coming?

WTH is the reason behind this?

Or did I just miss some important part of the patch notes?

I think they're trying to make Relic weapon always a month or two behind, so that people who runs endgame get their hands on the higher tier weapon first.

We also just got the last upgrade step in the last patch. Give people time to complete the current step before introducing even more.

And the new ilevel is going to be i130 with i135 weapons.

Well, the point OP is trying to make is that you won't need to run any end game to build enough poetic currency to get your i120 weapon. It would only take a couple of weeks of capping it.

And it is a little bit concerning.

I don't like how the do-nothing-to-get weapon is sorta beating the grind-like-a-zombie weapon. :I

You can only get the tomestone to acquire the weapon with Poetics via FCoB. So that weapon will be purely obtainable by raiders until 2.5 or whenever.

The level 120 weapons will require 1300 Poetic Tomestones and the Encrypted Tomestone from probably Turn 11.

Nexus is still BIS until you're completing Turn 11, and there will likely be an upgrade for it in patch 2.5 or 2.45 or something to upgrade it to 125 and then later on towards the end of ARR and nearing the expansion up to Level 135.

While I know the likelyhood of this is slim. I level my relics in hopes that someday, one day, all this zombie grinding will be worth it lol although I know there will always be a weapon slightly above it. You never know :rolleyes:

it generally does. They just leave out the stuff that affects markets or gives ppl a head start. Though they stilled screwed up the market this time round.

What's with all the complaining? This is exactly how it was for 2.2 and 2.3, nothing has changed.

Why are you surprised about it? That is exactly what they did with soldiery and high allagan weapons. When they were released relic was no match for them, over the months they introduced several upgrade steps for relic till in the end it caught up.

They're doing the same thing now. Relic will have 6 months to catch up to fcob and poetic weapon.

It's hard work coming up with the next insane grind for the next stage of the Relic quest. These things don't happen overnight.

Also: they had said something about an entirely new relic weapon incoming. Can't remember where or when, but it was mentioned somewhere.

At 2.2 you could get Animus at Day 1 (in theory) if you grinded enough. Animus was item level 100. Both Atma and Animus came with patch 2.2 on the very first day the patch came online.
Weathered Weapons that require 1300 Soldiery and 1 Unidentified Allagan Tomestone were also level 100 and came with the same patch.

What we get now is NO UPGRADE for Relic which is stuck at item level 115 for god knows how long, meanwhile the weapon you get with 1300 Poetics and new whatever tomestone is item level 120...

That is the point of this topic if that wasn't clear before.

What do you think this is? If you make a weapon that is better than the raid weapon people will have no reason to beat it more than once. ( For the Story line. ) This is how it should work, Relic weapons are not skill based, it is a pure grind fest. Why should the players who like to work towards the raid weapon by spending hours wiping and learning the new raid take a back seat to a casual fiasco of grinding old content for a shiny weapon that is really just Vanity. It will Always get over shadowed in Every patch. Sure this may end being a good weapon. That will of course change when Heavensward comes out and its not good any more. Do it for fun and get it glowy, do not expect this to be a top tier weapon all the time. They made the relic BiS at the end of this patch when most people had already finished coil many many times. So now you have a weapon that has no use until 2.4 drops, and then it will be out classed immediately by the early stage raid weapon.

I am pretty sure that is wrong. IIRC animus came out slightly later because by that time I already had my tomestone from T7. I was the 2nd person, in my static, to get it too.

It depends on how accessible the tomestones are. If it's anything like second coil on release, it'd be a random drop from final coil bosses. It only really became a big problem when they added ST/hunts and made UAT available from xande...it just made relic to the "why bother" perspective when you could obtain a UAT and sands fairly easily. Sure you could say "but it upgrades"...but that's the same standpoint as upgrading your unweathered/HA when the new one drops, only it's not gated by a progressive questline.

If they wanted Relic to be BiS or at least be on par with dreadwyrm/HA, they could incorporate some objectives into coil

I guess the problem I have is the whole "your weapon is of the legends!" or "It has the power of the zodiac braves!" kept being shoved at me at every step of the quest, with the master blacksmith himself even mentioning the weapon has some powerful lore behind it an wielded by some great individuals.
...then you could just hand Rowena a chunk of rock that may or may not be valuable for research and get a weapon which is stronger (and mind you that Gerlot's apprentice, who even admits Gerlot himself doesn't train him all that well, can upgrade it to be even stronker.)

That sort of thing...just doesn't sit right with me.

Relic will be the fourth best for a month (or less since it takes at least 3 weeks of poetics + clearing t11* to get the base ironworks weapon) and then in 2.45 it will go back to being the third best matching ironwork weapon, then in 2.5 it will be the second best matching the augmented ironwork, then in 2.55 it will match final coil weapon.

5 item levels can be a pretty big deal with how damage multipliers work. It's not the end of the world, but this is the first time that we've had a new raid without a corresponding relic upgrade. I was expecting a 5 item level increase to match the low tier of raid weapons with both the i130 and i135 weapons being superior.

As others have said, while it sounds disappointing, realistically it should be fine:

* It'll probably take ~3 Weeks worth of Tomestones of Poetics (w/ the Weekly Cap) to grind enough Tomestones for the Base 120 Weapon, PLUS some [Item] from Final Coil (so the total population of players clearing that Turn will be pretty low still also).

And that's the bare minimum. Then an [Upgrade Item] will probably be in the 3rd Turn of Final Coil, meaning more time before clears start happening.

It gives Yoshi P and the team time to continue to develop / balance the Relic Upgrade System this time, and it'll be more of a "Cool News Item!" for that smaller patch when it does come out (e.g., 2.42, or whenever).

Of course it'd be nice to know now, but most people won't have Weapon i120's let alone 130's for a bit.

relics need to be gone rather sooner then later, The disasters of Relic/Mythic/Empyrean weapons in FFXI... just dont do the same mistake again and let Relics die rather sooner in this game pls.

I just broke the 800 light mark. Some of us aren't ready for another upgrade yet. Remember when they held off Novus becaus most people weren't finished with Animus yet?

That's not really the point, though.

It's about the raid gear always being a step ahead of the relics. That content (raiding) wouldn't be as relevant to do if there wasn't incentive to do it (superior gear).

If all we needed to do was brainless grinding for our gear, what fun would that be?

Relic doesn't need to be top ilvl imo, it shows a hell of a lot more dedication to have it than a coil weapon, imo, be proud of your relic, OP.

Your little relic isn't meant to be the best weapon. Nexus actually was until this patch. Just because you no-lifed your Nexus doesn't mean you're entitled to another upgrade this soon.

the relic update of nexus and nous both came in there respected patches 2.x5 and 2.x8 my guess is the next relic updates will be added in 2.45 and 2.48 with a final part to THEESE relics in 2.5-part 2 (since 2.5 have been said to be only 2 parts) :3

@ OP; It's been like this for a while, since before 2.2 actually considering First Coil Allagan wep Ilvl got buffed. Relic and now Tome wep is a weapon that players who don't raid can obtain so that they aren't too left behind from current content. Raiders will always and have always had the BiS ilvl wep, not really anything new. :/

Edit: It'll be upgraded slowly before the next Raid wep upgrade, the last part to Crystal Tower; The World of Darkness or The Void will probably yield things to unweather our stuff slowly again as well.

Part of the progression. I am sorry that you would/will have to wait a lil while to get upgrades to your weapon. A but of humble pie maybe? Just think how all those that are currently struggling to get their relic upgraded are feeling against those that are complete. So many threads about Relic upgrades and how they sukk and folks coming to tell them to stop whining and complaining about it..

Also here is the link to all of the patch notes, nicely organized. It's great for going back and reviewing things. I know there's always things I forget about cause there is just so much, and I go here to check things from time to time. All Patches

Also I can't find a source for the preliminary notes. Because for w/e reason SE edited their original entry for the preliminary notes with just a link to the full notes. But if you google preliminary notes for 2.2, people will mention the big bullet points of the patch, and no one mentioned anything about the new relic quest. So it doesn't seem all that out of the ordinary that there is no mention of relic on these notes so far. It would be odd to get another upgrade so soon.

3 weeks until you see the first i120 weapons with probably a handful of i130s from the top progression raid groups.

That means nexus will have been BiS for nearly 8 weeks.

In 6 weeks we will have 2.4x
And another trial. SE is doing it right.

People QQ too much because of ilvl and forget about the status. Doesn't matter if you can get an ilvl 135 weapon if the relic is BiS for you.

Perfectly happy with Nexus atm, seems to me that 4 DPS with i115 weapons and marginal gains to their dps via tome gear will have an easier time downing whatever turn holds the next UAT equivalent and getting more of them to our party earlier than losing a week or twos worth of them trying to down the next t8 equivalent in 2.3 gear.

Highest ilvl = best in slot. Secondary stats are very very weak overall, they cannot make up for a difference of 5 or more ilvls. With those ilvls your weapon damage goes up and for a DPS that is by far the most important stat.

New Relic Phase will VERY likely come in 2.45 not long after some of the people who're raiding FCOB have received their new Tome Weapons (i120-130), provided these people have barely spent any of their accumulated Poetics Tomes.

You are grossly underestimating the impact of the weapon damage higher ilvl comes with.

I'm fine with it. In fact, I hope there is not a new relic quest tomorrow. I just finished my WHM Nexus and have about 29 more melds for my SCH Novus. Then, I have to start the Nexus grind all over again.
