I was wondering why they decided to do TP in increments of 1k over 100? It always seemed more messy with it being larger #s. I do know you can add more variants with higher #s, but i don't know of anything that your couldn't do in 3 digits over 4. Its a pretty minor complaint but its always urked me a bit. Im guessing it was either a way to be different from FFXI or they planned more skills to have a more varied TP amounts.

Just seems like removing the extra 0 would just simplify things....always odd they did it that way. -

It would not really matter. FF11 goes by a 100TP system, however; it keeps track of every point between TP. So it is not uncommon for a player to get like 11.5 TP back, but it does not display that .5, instead; it will just give you 12 TP on your next hit.
I would rather see it in 1000's. It allows better planning because you can see exact TP. -

So I'm just gonna say that they probally have plans to have us increase our max tp by gear. Why they want to do this is anyones guess.

The reason for the maximum TP pool is measured in thousands rather than hundreds because of FFXI and because of TP GAIN not TP USE.
In FFXI some weapons gave decimals worth of TP because the game was not designed to accommodate fractions of a point further than .1. For example swords gave 9 TP per swing (which is a nice fraction of 100) but scythes gave 11.2 (or something) (and don't quote me on those numbers, it's been a while) Which is a much less "pretty" number when dealing with calculations. (and using those numbers in the future of the game)
So lets move up to FFXIV.
Rather than deal with decimals for TP gain, they decided to use a larger BASE number. Swords can give 90 (instead of 9) and scythes can give 112 (rather than 11.2) The SAME TP gain per swing in BOTH systems, one simply has a larger "base". Both however are the same fraction of the total. (300 and 3000)
It is the same "system" as 11, but now they can be more precise with EXACTLY how much TP they want to give per swing, as well as make things more diverse later on when effects come into play that effect TP gain per swing.
Now they can get as precise as 11.26% (of the total) if they wanted "per swing" and not have to deal with a single decimal. -

The above post is EXACTLY how the CURRENT stat allotment system works.
People complain that "points don't have nearly enough effect!"
Well this is because rather than having ONE point in DEX give you ONE percent of CRIT;
TEN points in DEX gives you ONE percent of CRIT.
Why?
Precision.
I can (with a larger BASE number) be more PRECISE with my stats, increasing them by .1% crit per point in dex, rather than 1% for 1 point. Instead of getting 100 points to work with, I get 1000. Instead of 1% increases with each stat point allocation, I get .1% (but 10x more points to spend!)
It's too bad people are too dumb to realize it.
There is no issue with the current point allotment system in the quantity aspect.
More points is simply more precision when allotting points. Noting more. Nothing less.

Really its in the same vein as the reasoning behind having only 20, 50, 100, 1000 levels. Its the difference in change and the value of that change. With 20 levels as your max, it means every level is a significant increase in power. Conversely, gaining a level in a game with 1000 as your max is about the same as picking up a penny. You're richer but its harder to notice. The time to get to 20 vs 1000 could easily be made the same based on how you pace EXP gains and the quantity needed to gain a level.
TL;DR as far as you need to worry, there's no reason for you to care either way outside an aesthetic appeal. It's more a math and statistics thing. -
