PLD Novus Parry vs. Crit

Pretty sure there have been plenty of these but I'm bad at searching any kinds of forums so here goes.

I've decided to put Acc, Det and either Parry or Crit on my Novus but frankly I can't decide between the two.

I either hear people say CAP PARRY or that parry isn't quite worth investing into because you need larger numbers for a small increase in actually parry chance.

Since there aren't that many alternatives I'd consider crit rate because that's still a slight DPS increase and higher DPS = easier enmity.

Oppinions?

I prefer parry so I'm going, personally, full parry on my Curtana/Shield, with a DET/ACC split on Curtana and full DET on my shield. I mean, if it's aggro you're concerned about, just go Crit. I haven't ever really had hate issues so I'm going Parry.
I would say Parry would be the more definite choice if you were able to parry more types of damage, but it's mostly useless in magic-damage based fights.

Parry is a terrible stat. Put as much Det as you can afford then put as much ACc as you can afford then out the rest in crit.


I just changed both of my nexus weapons from Acc/parry to Acc/det.

Do not do this. Don't just put in as much ACC as you can.
If you're already meeting the ACC cap, or don't need that much ACC at all, then it becomes even more useless than parry. That's why I reduced the ACC on my Curtana and replaced it with DET, because I was already well past the ACC cap and didn't need most of it.

I don't see much wrong with maining Acc, sure you don't need to shoot miles past the cap but it seems like a safe stat because it offers more gear options, especially with the upcoming patch and the mass of new content.

It's stupid to assume that you will be at accuracy cap for very long with newer content coming out. I will laugh at all who stack DET/CRIT with no accuracy when they start wiffing and need to re do their novus agian.

Still pretty new to FF14, but a FF11 vet. This is my take on Acc/Det vs Crit/Det

At this moment (not saying this will happen in the future) you have 2 sets of 110 gear. From the news, we will get new currency to again, buy gear, and coil to get gear

Current 2 sets are uncorrelated.


1. You have Acc/Det you put on more Crit gear
2. You have Crit/Det you put on more Acc gear
3. You run into Acc issues during your progession, you eat acc food
4. You hit Acc cap, during your progession, yup you guessed it crit/attack food or be cheap and don't eat food

It's a 2 step flow chart A to B or B to A

Not including weapon and shield, PLD can get up to 611 accuracy, probably not going to need that much for a while.

We're going to be getting more accuracy when they add new gear too. To be vigorously beating off to the idea of people not meeting accuracy requirements, like some people, is just silly.

I would say CRIT but it depends how much those materias will cost and how much gil you have, afterall all secondary stats are pretty weak so in the end it doesnt matter that much what you put in it. Also what comes to ACC yes you might be capped now but untill we know what stats new coil and tome gear have i would say go for full ACC, because in coil1 it was alot harder to get capped compared to coil2 era.

You actually need capped ACC on weapon and shield to build 2.3s BiS setup.

ACC allows gear flexibility and will extremely important come patch time. We have zero idea what the stats will be, nor will you know which drops you'll get first from Coil3.



As for OP: Crit vs Parry won't matter much of anything. Extremely small DPS gain vs mostly useless additional parries.

I went full Det/Crit because it's doubtful SE will ever make a pure dps weapon for PLD. This allows me to always have an optimal dps gear set when OTing or doing lower content while still being able to do all "tanky" content with the drops SE provides with drops/tomes.

I hope you realize that's sending the message of "Secondary stats don't matter much of anything". So anyone who stacks Accuracy on a healer, Spell Speed on a tank, piety on a Melee DPS, or Parry on a magic DPS is not causing a problem beyond "extremely small".

Hey Trixxy! I would say go a three point spread. It is best for us tanks because we require a bit more accuracy that other class. I would go all Det up to materia III, then all Crit up to 30, then put the rest on acc. Parry isnt worth stacking in FF14. Dont let these parry princesses fool you! haha. so in total your stats should look something like this at I115: 23acc, 23Det, and 31crit if im not mistaken. At 20 acc and crit you get a bonus point for when your novus become I115. The extra point of det doesnt come til 30 so it isnt worth it

Sword gets the extra DET at 22. You also get 2 bonus points at 31. My nexus sword is 33 Acc 23 det. Shield does not get any bonuses.

Any references out there for the usefulness (or apparently lack thereof) of stacking parry? I've never had any real aggro issues, so it's really down to whether my role is extra DPS, or taking less damage to ease burden on the healers (and maybe let one of them DPS sometimes)

Research says it's bad.

The one use would be worlds first LvL of progression while sorting out a strat. If you aren't that kind of player you don't need parry.

You are thinking about this all wrong.

Don't stack ACC. The game is not balanced with you needing to stack ACC on your Relic in order to hit the ACC cap.

Curtana already has more ACC than any other weapon for same item lv. It's not necessary to add more in order to reach the cap.

Sure, the first week a patch drops you won't be ACC capped again but you can reach it again before the month is up after getting the new gear. Then for the next 4-5 months you will have ACC on your Curtana that does absolutely nothing to enhance your gameplay, and is a wasted stat.

By contrast if you put DET or CRIT you will do slightly more damage and generate more threat.

I wouldn't do Parry as our high block rate makes Parry have little impact in our tanking.

Det and Acc if you can afford. If you can clear T9, you don't have to Infuse T4 materia into it. Think of it as a rental.

You are thinking about this all wrong.

Since 2.38 BiS requires capped ACC on your Nexus Curtana and Shield, it is a pretty safe stat to max out going forward.....ACC is the best secondary available, its currently used for BiS. Come 2.4 it will allow your planned i130 process to be more forgiving especially if you are doing FCoB since your drops will be random. Lastly chances are when relics are bumped to match i135 it will more then likely be BiS again. (capped ACC/DET)

Crit does extremely little to our DPS and Det is the 2nd best secondary until ACC is capped and then its best.
