Newish WHM questions.

I've reached 50 early last week (to give a sense of my experience). My WHM is ilvl 100

1.) I use Cure 1 when my target's HP is 60-90%. I use Cure 2 from 30-60%.
Is that bad? It feels sometimes like I'm playing chicken with my Tanks.

2.) I have the Ramuh Ring of Healing (won it while BLMing). Is it a good ring for Healer? Is the weathered ring or HA ring greater?

3.) I don't run anything that is 8 manned because I rarely had the need to AoE heal, so I really, really suck (or I feel as if I do) healing as such. I usually use Medica 2 followed by a few medica 1s if I need, even if only 2-4 persons need a heal. I tend to panic, using Divine Seal when I don't think I really need to (nobody over 20% damaged before Medica 2)

I'm using ST to practice since it isn't as Heal heavy

1) Ideally you should be able to precast so that you are able to keep up with Cures and Freecure procs, along with Regen being up on the MT all the time. Stoneskinning the big impacts preemptively and Cure 2ing through huge amounts of sustained damage. You also didn't mention Regen - this is your most MP-efficient heal and should always be up on the MT after aggro has been established. Just be careful with renewing it and having it up when adds or some such spawn. (For the spawn aggro due to Regen being a HoT).

2) It's a great ring, SCH-BiS and certainly not bad for a WHM despite the crit, for the DET. Ideally you should have a combo of HA + unweathered Daystar, though, unless you're minmaxing some DET-build with mild amounts of crit.

3) You should practice 8-mans more and synergize with your healing partner. Know the SCH abilities, camp their castbars, be proactive and intuitive. Don't overheal with AOE-heals. Plan scripted AOE-damage ahead better. Don't Divine Seal reactively, but plannedly. It's on a 60s CD anyway, don't hoard it for the "bad days", but keep using it on cooldown most of the time. (Also not forgetting tricks like 34s~ of Divine Sealed Regen uptime per minute etc.)

1. It's fine, depend on tank's HP and how much you heal with cure2.
Myself I'm fore doing like almost constant cure1 (on hard fight), and cure2 when I know a big hit is coming, or if I see tank's life below 50-60% (I dont wait 30% for exemple, it's too low)

2. It's good ring, for now, for it's more a ring for scholar, not WHM, becoz of the crit rate, I prefer high Allagan ring myself (+ the daystar ring), or you can also use 2 daystars rings, one upgrade with one oil, one not upgrade, but, dont waste soldiery on this now, choise some other items first, and keep Ramuh's ring for now.

3. For this, you need to know the fight and feel it, most of the time, just medica 2 is enough, if you know the fights, and you know when AOE dmg is coming, you dont have to put everyone 100% fast, just let the regen heal them, and the fairy of the scholar if there is one.
In some fight, you need both, medica 2 + medica, but it's not that often, it's when really huge AOE is comming, it's even rare i would say.
You can use Cure3 also for really huge dmg, you can in ST for exemple, at the end of the last boss, with the AOE that make spawn a platform (but use surecast or you gonna get cancel)
In some fights, it's also good to have all the time or almost 'more for the second middle of the fights) medica2 up.

I suggest you to practice in fights like T5-Titan extreme of not did already, it's fights that you need to unlock to progress in hard end-game (I guess you did already Titan if you did Ramuh ? Or it's not needed anymore ?), those are not easy.
And when you feel confident enough, you can also do T6-8 at least (at least 6-7)

I'd say for WHM the Ramuh Ring is one of the BiS rings (the HA is actually really really bad and using the i100 Daystar ring is a loss comparatively). Det is your big money winner behind mind and a small amount of crit is totally worth it.

You should be precasting and using regen. Cure 2 should be used as sparingly as possible because it is the main drain on our MP.

You shouldn't need to use both Medica 2 and Medica. I use 2 if there's no other expected aoe damage coming soon (stuff like Tumult and Tidal Roar are good examples) and Medica 1 when you need that higher initial potency because someone is getting smacked again soon. Cure 3 if everyone is stacked together anyways (most primals, T6) because of that juicy potency.

The high Allagan ring is not bad, it as Piety + Spell speed
Since Piety is the stat we (maybe not everyone but...) want first, it's good, becoz the Ramuh doesn't have Piety.

No, you cant say HA is crap, maybe you dont like it, but it's not crap.

Pretty sure HA is crap because SS is a worthless stat. I'd rather have two stats (crit/det) I can use than one that's not even necessary (pie).

Spell Speed is a stat worth all of 0.

There are other pieces where you can have the piety. And I disagree with the assertion that pie is our most important stat. Far from it. PIE for a WHM is like VIT for a tank: you want enough to do the content comfortably and the rest is waste.

The small amount of PIE you get from one slot (and a ring even) is too small to have any meaningful effect on your MP management.

Supporting your team, correct thier misstakes.
More misstakes : More Mana used.
More mana + more misstakes you can correct.

So for me Piety > deter or every other stats.

If you dont aggree, fine, but dont be close-mind and dont say that every who's not thinking like you is wrong.

And about spell speed, I wont repeat myself, I just dont find this completly useless, even if it as not as good effect as it should be, or as we want it to be.

And you can correct party mistakes while still having plenty of MP. Our current MP pool+Shroud+ethers will be enough for content in almost every situation. About the one exception is multiple raises but in that case your party needs to just stop making mistakes to begin with.

And spell speed does do nothing. Unless you're hammering your cure over and over. A good WHM learns fights to the point that they can precast and have the cure land right after a hit. Making every point of Spell Speed not needed at all.

i100 and you've been level 50 for a week.. I feel like such a scrub. I made WHM my main job 2 and a half months ago and i still have yet to clear Titan Ex or get to i100. My advice to the OP is to just keep doing whatever you are doing. Its obviously working for you.

The High Allagan Ring is viable, despite it having spell speed. A proper White Mage build has a certain amount of piety in it that you find comfortably to heal with and, to an extend, swap-able pieces depending on encounter. However, there are better pieces to swap out for piety compared to the ring (HA choker vs Sol Choker, for example) for this sole purpose unless you require a full piety build for some reason.

Concerning the OP in question: Healing at 60% or 70% or even 10% depends on how much healing you put out and how much HP the tank should have at that moment. You should consider how much healing is required to top them off, rather than looking how full their HP bar is. Even if this leads to some overhealing. Overhealing is generally not a good thing being a waste of MP after all. But overhealing never killed anyone - Try to aim for a low percentage as possible.
But if the scholar is the tank babysitter, you should worry about the group over the tanks (but not completely neglecting them). In this case you need to consider using Medica, Medica II or Cure III. In most situations just one medica is sufficient (especially with Divine Seal)*.

*There are too many white mages out there that either: Spams Medica II or casts Medica II and tops everyone off with a follow-up Medica. Please don't do this.

What are you waiting for!! It's great fun!! AoE's are WHM bread and butter!!
A good way to break into 8 mans to get a feel would be queuing up for main scenario content. That's how I learned, it's relatively safe considering you get speedrun focused experienced players. The instances practically run themselves!

I like raiding as a WHM, CT, ST, HM & EX Primals, all 8 man content is fun to me. Even the ones that are PUG'ed, nothing is more fun/rewarding for me than getting a challenging run and we come out on top because the WHM (me) saved the day!

I dont get all the WHMs out there that under value piety. More MP to spend means more cures, it also means more mp back from the static mp regen. In my current(personal BiS) the 2% mp per 3 seconds gives me cures worth of mp back ever 6 seconds. Thats HUGE in fights like T9 where you're fighting for about 10 mins. I can literally do the full fight and be sitting at around 75%+ mp.

And that is why Piety isn't valued as a top priority by all WHMs. If you have that much MP sitting around that you didn't need to dip into, then your Piety is way, way higher than you needed it to be, and it's not really benefiting you.

Piety + Spell Speed builds are great for solo-healing. General builds focusing on Det are better for 2-healer fights.
