voice chat? a casual's choice. every hardcore player knows that they should communicate via macros to be pro.
Sounds like someone got their feelings hurt because they were kicked from a group or denied entrance for not having it.
Nobody cares.
If there are any groups that have done anything noteworthy (e.g. World firsts, world records...etc.) without voice chat, I haven't heard of them.
noteworthy and winning are different, regardless, i havnt been kicked or anything, just a bit tired of seeing all these people thinking VC is a must lol..kinda the same with how videos roll but thats better saved for another rant day.
also ^^ maybe no one cares but i didnt post this because i assumed people would care. /boredom
Voice chat is just a really nice feature both to communicate effectively and to socialize. I find that anytime I'm using voice chat in any capacity I communicate a lot more with people whether it's relevant to the fight or not. I never really had this problem on FFXI because the pace was so slow. I could just type whatever I needed to during the 15 second cast time or during the breaks when I couldn't cast because I had too much enmity or was on stun rotation but not up next, etc. Such situations never occur in FFXIV. If you're not at minimum pressing a button every 2.5 seconds you're doing something very wrong, so there's very little room to type much of anything.
That said, sure you can get around it, and by the time your group knows content well you probably don't even need it, but it helps a lot in the learning process.
Maybe I'm weird but I find that doing Contents without Voice Chat is more fun because of the Challenge and everyone have to be good and carry their own weight. I find Voice Chat ruined the game and fun especially when someone call out everything and you just follow their order.
I have just been using Macro and all extreme primal and 2nd coil and it seam to go fine.
If a group requires VC and you don't like that, just join another group.
TBH, SE done a good job on making fights clear enough to be done without VC needs. You just need to look and hear (and have ping 0 of course trollolol) :)
Here we go again with the 'your play style isn't the same as mine therefore you suck.'
You're entitled to an opinion, if you don't like using voip that's fine, but why feel the need to insult everyone who does use it? Personally I enjoy voip, but I'm a bit of a chatterbox, and playing properly I have very little time to type so, voip ftw.
What I'm getting from this is 'I don't expect to play as a team, I expect the 7 other players to execute their roles perfectly so we can win with minimal interaction'
I understand it, but what gets me is the groups that say "know what you're doing" or "2 strikes and boot" then demand a voice program. These are the groups that always, without exception end up wiping at least 10 times.
Every.
Single.
Time.
It's not even so much about needing, it's also just about the social element.
If people are on voice chat, talk and socialize then I am much more willing to help them better their game if they're unfamiliar on what to do. Whether that be due to a lack of knowledge regarding the fight, aren't comfortable with their class, whatever. They've showed that they're an actual human being playing, and as such they can be treated.
People who refuse to join voice chat and end up sucking? They can get an instant kick out of the group. If they fail to acknowledge the social element in a multiplayer game, I will fail to acknowledge them as a person and treat them as an NPC.
thank you for this salty comment, my eggs were really underseasoned.
AHEM, not once did i insult people who used it..i simply said that if it is a MUST (as in use it or dont join this PF yo!) then you are simply not a pro. i am fine with VC, i am fine with people using VC and if i so desire will use VC myself.
that does not deter from the fact that people who think VC are a must to win a fight are usually unable to properly engage in the fight without such instructions with voice and thus, are not pro.
now my eggs are plenty salty so pls do not bring upon me anymore of such comments, i simply shant have it!
"EDIT- meant to reply to YAHAVAGE with this."
you misunderstand, what i say isnt to bad mouth VC overall, it is simply to say that it is stupidity to require VC as a must have...general talking and "if you want to join it then do so" is fine..but having the thought process that everyone and everybody MUST be talking to win the fight is not. same thing as watching videos to learn a fight, tbh
I actually have some problems with voice chats too, because I'm not that good in listening english speech. It's funny, when some person tries to explain me something, but I just don't understand half of his words. I'm trying to improve this, but it's a slow process.
So, for me, short written instructions are much better. And voice chats are no way an instrument to socialize for me, it's more of a way to get a headache trying to translate all that they are talking about.
Maybe some people can't get on voice because they're not in a private space, maybe some people are uncomfortable with their voice, maybe some people are doing something else in real life, like talking with family/friends or eating.
But hey, it's easier to just assume everyone else is an unsociable user right? Otherwise you might have to accept that other people are people and have lives outside of talking with you about a video game because you demand their attention. God forbid.
Obviously there may be exceptions, and I don't deal in just black and whites. However, most often those who refuse to not join on voice chat also don't actively engage in any form of communication ingame. They're just there. That's it. Even if they aren't in a private space, they can still type to show interaction. If they're not comfortable with their own voice, they can still listen in and type. If they're not having their attention on the game due to people being over or eating.... they shouldn't be in a primal fight or coil run to begin with.
In most occasions though, they simply say no to voice chat. Never type another word. So well yeh, I'd classify that as rather unsociable.
