I just logged into the game (11:00 am) to see my crop of broombush wilted. When I logged out at 11:00 pm yesterday, they were fine and not ready for harvest. My FC record shows they were tended 1 day ago (fertilized and tended).
Seriously? Do you need to tend more than once a day to keep a crop healty?

Once every 24 hours. You dropped the ball no biggie. Water everday at the same time u log in and u wont have this problem.

I did. That was probably 27 hours ago. I don't log in at the same time every day.
And it is a bit of a biggie. Broombush seeds are about 250K each. -

The worse part is they were glowing purple and wilted for a while before they actually died. Might need to hammer on your FC to actually pay attention to the plants from time to time. -

It's a bit ridiculous that they must be tended every 24 hours. I have a solo FC so there's nobody else to water the plants. The same would be the case for personal housing now.
Why can't my retainers water the plants? Those lazy bums just do nothing but bring back fish! -

That is just how it work. FC were never ment to be solo but people do it anyway. Water then once a day is not that much but if you work schedule dont allow it dont do it or do it at your own risk.

I have a solo FC just for the housing / gardening. Now that you can have personal housing, there are a lot more people in this position of not having a FC to tend the plants.

If you can't log on to water plants every day, don't plant something you can't afford to lose.
I'm currently crossing broombush and my halone, when harvested, will be giving me jute seeds. I make sure to log in to keep them tended; and if I don't it is all on me. Thankfully I havnt spent really anything on my garden, fathering the grade 3 soil and seeds myself; just a time investment for me -

SE is ALL ABOUT encouraging you to log in every day. The epitome of this is the Login campaigns in FFXI. You don't even have to DO anything after you log in - they're just content for you to log in. What this does for them, I don't know; maybe it lets them fudge their metrics when reporting their game's success. ("Why yes, twenty thousand people log into FFXI every day!" Unstated: "Of course, fifteen thousand of them are mules for the other five thousand, and only one thousand of them stay online longer than sixty seconds. But hey, numbers!")
Every activity they can add that makes you want to log in each and every day (beast tribe quests, treasure maps, daily roulettes, etc, etc, etc) is a win, in their book. -

I feel your pain OP, but still, it's not a problem with the garden. It's all about time management, it's already pretty generous that you don't have to tend to them every hour, 1 tend a day is very generous. Of course sometimes, a person's schedule is not always concrete but there has to be a downside in anything, that including gardening.
Keep in mind that approx one hour in real life is one day in Eorzea. If you are gone for a day, you are effectively leaving your plants to fend for itself for 24 Eorzean days. So again, being able to tend your plants once a day is generous.
Point is, don't bake a cake when you know you're going out in a few. -

I suggest finding a friend in-game and working out some sort of arrangement for them to water your plants on days when you know you won't be able to.

You can tend them when they're wilting and it'll save them, unless they've already reached the completely dead stage.

It often rains in Lavender Beds and Mist, if it rains theoretically you shouldn't have to water them to keep them alive. How often did I "tend" my real world garden during the summer? I didn't touch it if it rained every 2-3 days.
It is kind of unrealistic to expect the garden to be watered even if it rains in-game. They even have a different animation that shows when you tend the garden during a rain shower, so they recognize the difference. -

Like others have said, just tend them while they are wilting (purple mist). They'll be fixed immediately. As far as I know, it takes a couple RL days for your plants to totally die.
