Relic upgrade and your thoughts

As we all know, the upgrade from novus to nexus involves a spiritbond type system where lights with varying strengths are farmed. It's a very simple a straight forward system that ties in coil, expert instances, primal fights, and fates. A variable slew of ways to farm lights. It is however all the same, from start to finish. Start the quest, farm the light, turn the quest in and finish.

I've seen in the past where players have requested more of a 'grind' with the relic quest line, but this is the first we've seen the quest go the route of 100% grind. Before 2.38 the quest line has always had tiers of progression. First it was primal fights, and then atmas (12 tiers), and then the 9 books, and then the 75 alexandrite chest.

I'm not saying this is a bad thing or a good thing, I'm just interested in how the player base feels about the change in philosophy with the move from tiered completion to 100% grind. The devs do listen, so here's your chance to let them know if the relic stages are moving into a more fun direction or if you feel things are lacking.

Myself, I'm just happy they haven't mandated fates this time.

The only thing i dont like is i cant play my other classes for bonuses on roulettes but im happy that there is no more rng, wasting time waiting for a fate to pop, or gil sink.

I like it. Gets people using the DF again. Plus it distracts people from the Hunt!

I think this was an incredibly lazy cop out for the developers to use something this simple and grindy as an entire stage of the relic weapon.

My gripe is that it'll cause forced Speed runs to happen. Those are always an inconvenience for those that want to grind for EXP in dungeons. And when you do stand up for what's right and say something, they outright disrespect you and ignore you.

The speed runners for dungeons are fools...wait for it to pop on Mog/Garuda/Ifrit HM, and then burn them down fast. Over the course of 2 hours I saw around 40 clears of Garuda HM because we burned through her that fast. You can't get that kind of time on dungeons.

I have a question for the folks who don't like it. Do you have any recommendations that on what you'd personally like to see implemented?

I ask because I personally dislike seeing just pure complaints. That doesn't offer any insight on a possible direction or fix. I'm not saying I'll agree or disagree with your recommendation but it might spur up an idea in another person and start a conversation. Now that type of dialog is much more valuable than your typical, "OMG THIS SUCKS FIX IT NOWS OR I'LL UNSUB".

I really like this new part to relic. I enjoyed novus. It was a certain number, 75 and at the end you had novus. This is the same with out a large materia cost. I enjoy running my main class through all types of content I like but have had no reason to do before as relic sent me generally away from current content with the ATMA FATEs and 9 books. I know it keeps us looked to our relic weapon class but that works for me. I am looking to do Finish the ATMA farming I started for Scholar. Doing the whm novus to nexus, I am going to max out on myth fast and I would rather buy 9 Animus books than waste the myth on random things. I have kept up with the maps and had 25 alex ready to go for the sch book also, so that is another time saver. Enjoy the new relic quest line, it is the best so far.

This upgrade is nice due to no RNG, but also because it's inadvertently become the most hilarious bit of content yet. All these trials with one new player or someone in i60ish, who then completely panics as the seven people upgrading to a nexus rip the primals to pieces. XD

I think it's great. No Gil, no RNG - just purely playing the game.

It's great for those who want to charge through it without mercy because they can.
It's great for those who want to chip at it an hour a day because they can.

it seems better than some part we did get before... sadly for reach this point we need to go throught the otherpart. i do hope that at some point they will make this previous step easier... or the new player will simply never do it.

For me it has its good and bad aspects. You have to play always that class if you want to go as quick as possible (bad thing.) More people are playing content they didn't play before (good thing.) You can take it easy and do what you like and it will go up too (good thing.) New people may get carried in speed runs while they don't keep up (bad thing.)

I would like some challenge added different than just something that takes a long time. But it's much better than atmas of course, or farming myth for the books when myth were much harder to farm. It's difficult to make something challenging without it being too difficult for the majority to pass. Remember when Titan HM took maybe weeks to do because finding a group that could pass was so difficult. I liked the first part of the relic when it was challenging (now you meet overgeared people everywhere, great for new people to catch up.)

inb4 the next upgrade is MUUUUUUUUUUUCH worse than atma

I think this is the worst upgrade by far. I much prefer the alexandrites then this. Its do the same avatar over and over and over and its so boring. At least with alex it was once a day and I don't feel obligated to be spamming avatars whenever I am on the game.

The whole relic quest was genius and very well played by SE
Coming from WoW you have no idea how much I see people griping about the game world being dead, no one running old content, everyone sitting in town and just queuing for raids, etc etc
With one questline SE have taken measures to prevent that from happening in their game.

I think it is a good idea - but I don't think it is accomplishing what SE set out to do. The problem is that it's more efficient to spam HM primal trials than to mess with anything else (extreme primals, CT, BCB, etc.). The obvious purpose of implementing this system was to preserve the old content for new players (easy to find a group). I think there needs to be greater reward for completing difficult content and then large light bonuses for clearing difficult content with players who have never completed the content.

the issue with relic upgrade is that if u arent doing it NOW , u will face a huge grind , now ppl are creating partys to do content , in 2 months ? GL trying to farm garuda for light points

Nexus process is OK I guess, though it is close to nothing other than playing the game. Can't I make progress without logging in? I mean, my favourite part of the game is reading the forums. Shouldn't that count? And shouldn't the rest of my gear also get upgraded? Who needs tomes?!?

I hate being stuck grinding on one job.

I have mutltuple i110s and a HA weapon I won't get to use until after I finish this grind.

I'm estimating it will take me 6 weeks to finish which puts it into 2.4.

^This. A Million times over. I recently got my Arcanist to 50 and I was doing Garuda HM for my SMN relic. So when I got to Garuda HM, it was just rushed. So I go " UHm. Something about this is so very wrong.. " Know what thier response was? " No idea what ur talking about lol. " Arrogant FFF...

So this is like the Atma grind with the FATEs as the poor helpless newbies are left dumbstruck as a FATE is cleared in 30 seconds.

I call this a test of character for the end game players. To show if you're a TRUE model player, or just another bully in the end.

Huge difference... this actually gives you a weapon you will never use. Unless for glamour.

If you don't use the Nexus weapon after you get it until you snag one of the upcoming 2.4 weapons then you're doing it wrong.

This is a huge potential problem that I hope gets addressed with future updates. I think with the nature of the nexus upgrade - the amount of light you obtain needs to be constantly re-evaluated.

On one hand, the Nexus bit is nice - no relying on RNG, no need to wait for hours on end for just one specific content. On the other though, the whole thing from atma onwards is a mindless grindfest, and that's just not my personal definition of fun at all - sure, from the outside it's great that it makes older and open world content more alive, but from the inside I was literally braindead just by the time I finished atma. So...er...yeah, definitely a double-bladed sword.

It's quite bad, just a grind sending you back into old content to keep you busy. Nobody does primals hundreds of times or westwind 2000 times just for the fun of it. It's something you endure for the prize at the end. The best thing they could do is add relic-specific original content, like they did with Hydra and Chimera. But I understand they don't have all the time in the world. Maybe the last ever relic quest could have an original boss instead of rehashed old content to make it more memorable.

Yep, this was SEs opportunity to make players do all the EX primals plus a new boss fight for their upgrade.

Instead of spamming i55 content let's make people do the harder fights again and make people do Ramuh EX. (Rings helped but still 95% of the player base hasn't cleared)

Lmao, yes, I've seen this a few times now, though most of the time these players seem excited about it. I'm sure some of them have seen strategy videos and such and are expecting a lot more of a tough fight. A couple of people have said: I hope I get you guys when I go to Titan! It's really pretty funny how fast i100+ people tear up these fights.

This is pretty much only issue i have with this, due how it works im unable to use HA shield as i need to use relic instead, and same would go with HA sword. Bacially it rendered HA weapons useless for those that are wanting to get Nexus done for their main class, and when you are done it will be better than HA anyway. Oh well you can always toss those HA's for retainer :P
