Why is dragonfire dive described as a fire based attack?

So I just got my DRG to 50 and noticed that dragonfire dive is described as a "jumping fire-based attack". But upon testing with my BRD friend we found that it is not effected by foe requiem. So why is it called a fire based attack? There are no elemental weaknesses in this game and if it's not trying to point out that it's magic damage then why not just list it as a jumping attack? Is there a reason for the seemingly pointless addition of "fire-based" in the description?

It might just be flavour text. It is kinda fiery and flashy

Bard's Flaming Arrow is the same way. Unaffected by Requiem.

prolly flavour text at this stage, in 1.0 there werre elemental weaknesses and it actually meant something then...

If it's not flavour text then i dunno, maybe it just slipped through the cracks in the redoing of the ability descriptions

This is the exact text it was in 1.0 to describe the ability when elements acutly mattered (healing ifrit was fun).
Side note foes does not increase elemental damage as its tool tip suggests, it increases all magical dmg. This has been confirmed by the devs numerous times and honestly i do not know why they have not fixed the description text yet.

Foe Requiem only affects magic attacks. As such it only affects attacks by Arcanists, Thaumaturges, Conjurers, and their advanced classes. This can be shown to be true by the exact text of Foe Requiem as it has been modified recently to reflect what it actually does:

The dragoon burns up in the atmosphere coming down so fast that he bursts into flames on contact with his enemy. Yet the enemy suffers no elemental damage. lol?

As is common knowledge, all fire is magical. The wood you see in campfires and fireplaces all around Eorzea is merely decorative.

unfortunately this is a falsehood. Dragonfire Dive is a physical attack. As such it does not qualify for the requirement of being a magic attack for Foe Requiem.

Correct answer here.

Because Dragonfire Dive is a magic attack, it's not boosted by Power Surge.

Its pretty lame, because Dragonfire Dive is not affected by Power Surge OR Foe Requiem.

If it is a magic attack, it should be affected by Foe Requiem.
If it is not a magic attack, it should be affected by Power Surge.

Since neither of these are true, its some kind of third-type ability? I think SE is cheating on this one.
But, it is what it is.


Edit: bah, Idk what I was thinking. Mixed up the "non-magical" clause from Life Surge with Power Surge. sorry

My guess is that Power Surge only affects single target jump so since Dragonfire Dive is an AoE, it is unaffected by it.

DFD is not boosted by PS because PS specifically buffs Jump and SSD... Thats like saying Divine Seal also boosts your Stone II damage @_@

I was thinking of the "non-magical" clause on Life Surge. My mistake

Bard has bunch of gas oil bag n use lighter at arrow.
Dragoon bath themself with gas oil n use lighter at self.

See no magic!

yes but it has been changed because what it used to say isn't what it actually did. This sort of change is referred to as an Errata. An Errata in MMORPG lingo is a correction in a tooltip so that the tooltip more accurately reflects what the mechanic of the ability is actually doing when it is activated. In games such as Magic the Gathering an Errata is when a older printing of a card says one thing, and a newer printing of a card says something different. This generally takes the form of keywords being added to clarify rules, or other similar things being done to make things easier for Wizards of the Coast's publishing house. That way you don't end up with new cards with rules text similar to the Ice Age Necropotence, which has a crap ton more text than the Vintage Masters version of the same card.

Regarding why Dragonfire Dive doesn't work with Life Surge: I have no idea. It could be that Life Surge specifically works only with Non-Elemental attacks. Dragoon only has the one Elemental Attack, so that is in fact a possibility. In which case Life Surge is in need of an Errata change itself to reflect that fact. But if that is not the case then I have no idea why it wouldn't work with Dragonfire Dive.

I don't even know why elemental materia is still even in the game.

I've been wondering that for a long, long time. Only purpose I've found for it is spiritbinding gear and using it for the low level materia attaching quests for DoH. Other than that it plays no significant role from what I can tell.

If you wanted to be cheeky you could pop a Fire Mega-ward Potion and watch DFD damage plummet.
