NOT ANOTHER HOUSING POST! Oh No!

So.. after reading everything about how angry people are at personal housing... I wanted to throw an idea out there that maybe SE could look at!

People like the idea of residencies yes? People like to have neighbors, and we want our own section not combined with FC housing, right? Something affordable?

Why couldnt they do something like the picture below? (Warning, this was done in paint, when I'm super tired and don't really feel like making it super pretty..)

They could easily fit over 30 houses with a simple design like this, going all the way around. The LAND size can be all the same with option to upgrade houses like in Animal Crossing (but without the huge loans) or just leave it as smalls, whatever! The land size wouldnt increase, you could have up to 3 gardens like you can with FC houses depending on your house size... I think it would really work out better. Even if you dont have an option to upgrade houses..

You could keep having neighbors, fit more than 30 houses in a ward, have all the basics of FC housing communities, without letting ONE individual buy an FC house... I mean, I have a friend with enough money to buy a large, I have enough money to buy a small, but it takes away from FCs actually owning houses... These could be more affordable, and not take up FC housing space.... Just throwing it out there..

I have never played XI, so I don't know how they did it there, but I really really do think they could have done this better..

In about 30 seconds, you did a better job of personal housing design than the entire dev team did in the last 9 months.

To be honest, I think this is what they wanted to do. It's certainly what I'd envision as an ideal personal housing setup.

The problem is that, as they've found out through the difficulty of adding additional wards to keep up with player demand... the amount of server load and database that the 'ward' structure is taking up is apparently extremely inefficient. Doing this on a scale like that would require several times as many wards, which is likely just not technologically sustainable at current - at least not with the current coding/engineering/etc.

But think about how many more wards they're going to have to add doing it the way they're currently doing it.. They have over 2 million players (while surely not all 2million are active..) To match up most players with personal housing, and most fcs with fc housing.. it's going to be a lot more stressful to do it the way they're doing it.. I dunno, I could be wrong, I'm not all tech savvy, but they could at least fill more players per ward this way :(

Having housing as a 'persistent zone' instead of an individual instance (personal rooms) is the issue, regardless of whether it's the wards we know or shrunken down mini-communities like you propse. Ideally at some point they'll have the code/engineering/etc efficient enough to do this though.

Number of Houses per Ward isn't the problem its the amount of data per House that needs to be tracked.

I mean my FC has a Mansion that was mostly supported by 4 people, I can easily buy a small when the game goes live, but.. I don't know. It feels wrong.
I'm gonna personally hold out and see if 2.4 seems better.. (also, coerthas housing pls.)

But in all seriousness, we already had personal rooms, I think a lot of us would have been more satisfied if they pushed off personal housing and did it a different way, than giving us FC houses to buy as individuals, you know?

I like the idea of having everyone start out with the same plot size of land, but with housing being upgradeable. Definitely sounds much more fun and it could be a good time sink (which is a win for SE). I'm not familiar with Animal Crossing's housing, but if its anything like Harvest Moon, I loved it. You could purchase cute vanity additions/addons and extensions onto your house. I could spend hours and hours on stuff like that.

No, it's fair. I think they still want to do it this way - but the technical difficulties have made them delay personal housing for so long that this is their temporary answer, because they've been promising to do something since day one and housing in general is like eight months old already. That's what I'd like to hope, at least.

Similar to Harvest Moon! (I love both series~) You could purchase add ons to your house, basement, upstairs, side rooms, and it doesn't really get a WHOLE lot bigger on the outside.
It would definitely be a time sink! Which SE would love like you said :)
I'll just be holding onto my money and hope they try a different route in the future.
Hopefully they can upgrade their server loads to host more houses... One day! Dream big guys :)

Honestly I agree and like the idea of upgradable land/housing as per Animal Crossing. It allows everyone to start out at the same point and expand however their finances, interests, and game updates allow. I'm not as sure about the layout you propose, but I understand the premise behind it.

It's disappointing that SE chose to go for a system that doesn't allot FCs (and now individuals) an equal amount of server resources.

I have indeed.

Right now I don't doubt it's easier to support this method - the prices are prohibitive enough that only so many players can get in, so the idea is to meet at least that segment of the demand.

Doesn't mean they might not look into other things in the future (They may segment off certain wards in the future to be player housing only and cut down cost, for instance, in the short term), but only time will tell. I highly doubt "this is it, this is the last housing feature ever"

Personally, I wish they would of at least postponed personal housing. At the moment, it....just seems more like an adjustment to FC houses rather than new content. I think I have just enough for a small house :P, but I think I'll hold off until 2.4 and hope for the best haha.

Yeah, I'd rather hold off as well! Are you hoping for a new housing district or fine with the current ones? And yeah, I agree, it's like an adjustment.. Honestly, they shoulda just gave more wards to FC housing and held off on P. Housing e.e After all.. we already have personal rooms..

I was hoping for either a separate personal housing ward per area, or a single instanced area set in the style of the three housing areas with just a short road with zone borders on each side with a market board and retainer bell. You would walk into the instanced road way into your single house and the inside and outside would be in the same instance, so your door would actually open to the inside.

This way, they would only need a single instance to hold both interior and exterior, so the need to load/unload the inside/outside if you walk in and out of your house wouldn't be a problem, only when you enter or leave your housing instance would it need to be loaded or unloaded.

I want a new housing district! Like the one you drew with a town center in the middle lol. And in the town center, maybe there could be a few vendors with an area big enough for holiday events and/or festivals grounds. Ehh maybe that's too much but I can dream! :O

But yea, we already have private rooms.

There we go. Simple. 2~4M a house. Same sizish, customize a little, small yard. Done.

But no, we can go with reusing the same shit and not creating anything new at all and only using it as a major gilsink. Sure, SE. Whatever you want. I'll keep logging on and paying you because I hate myself that much.

Shit, I would have taken the inn to be "upgradable" and able to have a stable/garden because it's localized different on the server much like FFXI's rooms were. Fine by me, I don't care. I just wanted a few things: Affordable, garden, and really everything after that was extra.

@LilyStorm, yeah! Something like that even would be frickin' nice! But apparently servers and stuff can't handle it... I dunno, if each PLOT itself was instanced I don't think it would be too bad, but again I'm no techie.

They should do what the people ask. Have all of us sign a waiver stating that we wanted more wards and we don't care about server stability. So once shiit start to fall apart we have no one to blame but ourselves.

Also, the dev team should keep quiet until things are 100% ready for release, but this will probably never happen. Reason being they have a deadline to meet. If anything blame the boss of Yoshi not yoshi or the dev team.

nah, they still blame SE if the server unstabe and unplayable, it is NEVER the player fault (we know it is a lie). I do agree that SE should had post phone the personal housing instead of try hard to deliver the promise, it s just backfire

If they're saying they don't want to spend money to upgrade the servers to give the players what they want.. Why are they a pay to play game to begin with.. e.e

Seems most of the community would rather them hold off independent player housing and just push it back and do it right, rather then the way they're doing it right now.
