The generic dungeon theme has been answered in two or three live letters now, they won't change old dungeons and only certain new dungeons will have a looping theme.
As for the battle theme I don't know if they gave an answer to this, but sooner than later they will add an option to disable it.
I hope it's sooner. There's nothing more obnoxious than doing my daily roulette and getting filtered into a low level dungeon with that horrible looping battle theme. I turn the speakers off now. I never thought I would ever have to do that with a game that bore the name Final Fantasy, but there it is.
+1. I already dislike running lower level dungeons because I can't use any of my skills. The boring music makes it ten times worse.
Another reason I love XI and 1.x - It'd get repetitive (what doesn't?) but at least they had separate themes for each dungeon/region and such.

This was the old Dungeon battle theme (Open World Dungeons.)
I wish they would let us take off our soul crystals when we are filtered into lower dungeons. When I run as warrior I sure do miss some of those cross class skills I had equipped as a marauder. Higher level dungeons I don't because the warrior skills are superior, but lower leveled ones? Let me run as the lower level class.
Even in 1.x every instanced dungeon used the same music.

The Dak's Kiss (Dungeon battle theme): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_zEkOIgjdko
Both mixed together (fan made): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iifJz18AS6U
Uh, just take off your Job crystal before you queue for DF then?
As for the dungeon music, before you all pass judgement, earlier FF games were exactly the same - older FF games just used the same battle music throughout the entire game in random battles fought in dungeons and the overworld.
Really, the Promise of Plunder isn't that bad, and most dungeons don't even have music, save for a short intro theme. Even FFXI's many varied tracks was all smoke and mirrors - it basically came down to one boring generic battle theme after another - arguably the first really decent battle theme in FFXI was Awakening, and that was a boss theme!
But we all have different tastes in music, so take what I said with a grain of salt. Personally I think Soken is doing an excellent job as composer/sound director for the game, even if he has been given to going a little too experimental, but at least he is listening to feedback and acting on player requests. I just hope he continues to add more missing 1.0 tracks into ARR (like Navigator's Glory and Piece of Mind (sic)).
The battle theme is very annoying, I would love to listen to the ost of the areas I am playing in instead of the battletheme everytime I get into a fight. :( Please let us turn it off!
You do know that you can turn off BGM from the System Menu? I do that sometimes when I've had enough of the looping music.
SE is cruisin' for brusin' on this issue. My tip? Turn off the music TBH. It's in the sound options. I turned off the music within 2 weeks of playing and haven't looked back. It's a shame fate/battle music ruins all the neat land zone music and SE is playing the stubborn role on this issue and has said they won't give an option to disable battle music or fate music (atleast thats what forum users have said in the past).
why not give an option to ignore certain specific tracks? O.o
I usually have other music in the background anyway, and some days i turn bgm back on.
The only time I have BGM turned on is:
Turn 9
Ramuh
Sometimes Coil.
That's really it. I mean, it would be awesome if they can just add a client Music Box so we can choose what music we want.
Yea, we pay a subscription and post in the official forums because we just lie down and take it, right?
This isn't a F2P game, where players pay for implemented content and existing benefits, we are subscribers that pay into the promise of future improvements.
It's our right and responsibility to demand that the developers improve the quality of gameplay.
It's a trivial fix to have the dungeon themes play outside of combat during the dungeon, or to shuffle multiple dungeon themes together to extend their short playtime.
There are many positive changes that are possible, SE just doesn't want to do them. And we can make them change their minds.
the ability to disable battle music would be the best QoL ever
So much hate for this game's music.
I like the music. The only time I mute the game is if I'm alt+tabbing to watch a video of some kind.
Not sure if I am missing something but Pandora. I can't always take the repeat sounds/music from crafting and most dungeons. Primals are the only spot I turn the sound back on. I have a few play list I like depending on content I am on and if I can't decide on a playlist, off to Pandora and problem solved. I love it and it lets me choice what I want to listen to in game. On another note about music having start at FF1 when the game came to the US, the music is the same in every game more or less. That is kind of a trade mark of the this game series. I generally like it.
And here we know why subscriptions are dying. Because people like you don't actually demand or get what they want from what they pay for.
If we want to attract more people to this game, while simultaneously making our own experience better, then we should be demanding for improvements to the game.
Why would other people want to commit to subscribing to this game if we're treated no better than F2P players by their games' developers? What's the true value in subscribing to this game if we don't at least get a higher standard of support, feedback, and receptiveness from developers?
The same logic you applied could be said of almost any product, good, or service that you buy. Returns, repairs, complaints, updates, and support are rarely included in the transaction.
And yet, we all still expect a certain standard of quality and the requisite benefits to us as consumers of that product, which is why many of these benefits are now written in to many company's purchase policies - there's simply an incredible demand for above-and-beyond service.
Why can't it be the same for FFXIV? Are we not justified in being upset when SE says they don't want to implement a simple QoL improvement because they're too lazy?
You are getting what you paid for, a full service access, it doesn't mean they have to bend to your will just because you are paying for the service. They use player feedback as a guidance, but they don't blindly follow feedback (or demands).
Ever heard the phrase "get off your high horse"?
the themes get old fast which is why i shut of the music when im doing dungeons and i just let my stream play what ever i feel like listening to while grinding the dungeon
How childish. That's not at all what I implied. A vast majority of the suggestions and demands made here are garbage. Even some things a majority of the playerbase wants (nerfs, balance changes) would ruin the game, though they don't know it.
SE has discretion over the changes to the game, and we should usually defer to their better judgment.
That doesn't mean we shouldn't discuss and debate them here. If you don't think it's worthwhile, then simply don't participate.
Implying that we should give SE the reins is akin to saying that people in positions of power - supervisors, legislators, owners - should have independent authority to do as they will. We know this to be a very bad situation for most people involved. Why is it different in the real world and with SE?
Sorry, but asking for feedback as guidance is exactly what I'm proposing here. I'm not asking that they implement everything we ask, blindly (because, obviously, most of it is contradictory, so they can't do it anyway). It's not my place to ask them to do anything. I'm asking us, the community to be more strong-willed and vocal about what we want, and to discuss the merits of that here, on the forums.
I'm not saying we should be angry and boycott or unsubscribe because we didn't get our way. That's absolutely bad for everyone involved.
If my high horse is wanting us to be valued as customers, members, and, most importantly, followers, then I'll be glad to stay on it.
I was responding previously directly to a comment, and others like, that suggest that we are at the mercy of SE and we should adapt to what they plan and please. I'm saying that should not be our attitude or our approach in these matters, trivial as they may seem, even if it's been stated otherwise already.
Perhaps it was a little childish, but my point wasn't to honestly say that you were saying that devs should implement everything players say. My point was that you were blaming people for declining subs, and my point was that it goes both ways. Plenty of people leaving the game are unpleasable whiners who can't accept that the devs won't make the game be exactly like what they envision. There's nothing wrong with arguing for QoL changes, but blaming solely people who are willing to accept the game flaws and all for losing subs is frankly absurd.
I'm not really focused on declining subs, but rather new subs, which are more valuable.
I don't find it absurd at all. This game is one of many in the MMO market. Every player of an MMO will post online about what they love about the game and discuss gameplay - it's incredibly difficult to gauge the quality of an MMO unless you actually play and experience the game, since reviews are outdated every few months, and are barely reliable to begin with.
One of the key differences is how active the developers are in responding to the game's growth and change. You can jump on the official forums and look at how often developers have answered questions, reviewed suggestions, and actually implemented some suggestions.
Like I've said before, it's the same with any number of things we buy out there. The user reviews are useful, but biased and unreliable. It's the service and responsiveness of the manufacturer/developer that becomes the true selling point.
SOKEN and the sound team have A LOT of work to do, in terms not just of the music but also every other sound-effect the game relies upon.
Now consider how many dungeons there are, that is a METRIC ton of work to make a theme for every single one;

http://puu.sh/bAy3F/91b92ec2bb.jpg
Now that the game is actually released, there's a little bit more room for making unique tracks, that's why occasionally new dungeons get a new looping theme, but there's still not a lot of time to squeeze it in, therefore (for example) the likes of the hard mod dungeon makes use of some of the 1.0 composer(s) music.
I dunno, I hate the music below Haukke Manor NM.
It just sounds so stupid.
I don't see why we couldn't have an option to turn off battle themes. Just about every other MMO with combat music has the option. Including Everquest 1.
Seems like an oversight to me.
I generally just turn off music for zones that I don't like the music for and play my FFXI playlist, lol...
Even when they reused some 1.0 stuff...they made a short loop...

This would sound great if it was in Haukke Manor HM at least. Or ..something lol the short loop doesn't do it justice.
