Wondering if the order of jobs from most dps to least dps is still the same or not.

Heya I was just wondering if the order of most to least dps is still Mnk > Drg >= Smn > Blm > Brd in terms of overall content or has it changed since 2.3?

I ask cause I keep hearing conflicting reports of Blm and Smn doing more dps than the other and vice versa and even some reports of Blm being top dps class and just wanted to ask to make sure or not. >.<

The answer has, as it always has been, it depends.

The longer a fight goes on with high uptime, the better Monk and Summoner become. If AOE is the object, Black Mages just win. If Black Mages can just stand there and turret, they do well. In the longest fights, Bard dips down in order to prevent everyone else from running out of resources.

There is no such thing as the absolute undisputed highest DPS class. It's all situational. For example, Monk is the best at Turn 8 DPS, but they generally lose to every ranged class in Turn 9 because they lose uptime more often. Black Mages are still undesirable in fights where they must move a lot.

Good BLMs, on the other hand, know how to move efficiently and not lose much if any time to mechanics forced upon them.

Plus, with longer fights (like T8), Summoner and Monk are dependant on songs (mana and TP) to keep up their dps. BLM's are resourceless which is a large advantage. But its the only fight where its an issue.

I've never heard of Summoner's having Mana issues/Monks having TP issues on T9? Do you mean T8?

I do agree that a decent BLM wont lose much dps to movement heavy fights. xD But overall I would say we are middle of the pack when it comes to DPS Potential.

BRD (440 ~ 450 (drg buff))

I do not know the hightest dps ever put by smn // drg for t8 so... (i saw like 420 for each, but not more)

The highest I've ever got on T8 was 441. Usually I hover around 420 ~ 435 with only the foes at the beginning of the fight and MP song somewhere in there as well as doing both Towers and Mines.

Personally for something like T8, post BLM buff, it seems something like :

MNK
BLM
SMN/DRG
BRD

I can't say I've ever seen a BRD go as high as 440 in a standard 1 Bard setup due to song usage. So numbers like that have to be with two Bards in the party.


There really is no over-encompassing DPS rollout order for the entire end-game as it changes on pretty much every fight.

T9 for example, SMNs are top followed by DRG, MNK, BRD/BLM

General rules:
Fights that are long in duration, but not much movement required: BLM/MNK excells, SMN suffers, MNKs and DRG and BRD stay in a particular area of DPS. (TP /MP songs included)

Fights short in duration, not much movement: SMN/MNK/BLM/DRG->BRD


Any fights that require the least amount of movement: Monk & BLM excel above the rest on average, followed closely by DRG and SMN.

Fights that have limited uptimes (unable to target mobs or mobs moving around a lot) : SMNs usually excel above all the rest.

Fights dangerous for Melee, which may add in wait moments or downtime (Garuda EX for example): Range wins out on average due to full uptime.

DRG/SMNs generally are the most average classes in their position. In generally any fight that requires alot of movement, a DRG can beat out a MNK if due to that movement, the monk loses Greased Lightning. (T9 is a good example here.) The longer a fight is the lower a SMN goes.

Hmm, well let me ask this then. In World of Warcraft I primarily played as a Destruction Warlock and a Mage of usually Arcane or Fire and excelled as those two classes and was great about moving only enough to get out of danger while maximizing my casts to have max dps of my gear as well as utilizing mobile spells (Fel Flame, Arcane Barrage, and Scorch). Would this translate to me being a Blm that would do well or would this end up being meaningless and would it better that I just go Smn and put any and all raiding experience I have from WoW in the past?

If you can translate those skills over to black mage and know when/how much to move and when to best utilize instant cast spells. You'll go far as a black mage.

The transition from WoW's Warlock/Mage to 14's Blm was cake for me, which in turn caused me to spend a year of self debating over if I should focus on Blm or Smn as my primary caster. I kept hearing how Smn was so much better for mobile fights and was way higher dps, but from my personal experiences, it kept messing with me as I was having no problems with Blm in mobile fights and in fact found it much easier to be Blm on those fights as I could focus more on casting and dodging instead of having to pay attention to see if I was missing a dot or something. In the end, I just kept swapping and making no progress cause I could do fights easily and pump out dps as Blm like no tomorrow, but kept seeing info on how Smn was better and more mobile. Don't get me wrong it's not that I find Smn hard, it's just I was never really one for dot style dps, preferring more direct damage and "turret" style dps.

In my opinion, if you've done any sort of raiding on World of Warcraft as an Arcane Mage (especially during Siege of Orgrimmar because I feel like I'm fighting Heigan the Unclean on some of those fights), you'll have no problem playing BLM here. SMN is better than BLM on fights with movement, but if you're being forced to move enough for it to affect your DPS that much, your group is either giving you mechanics which they shouldn't, or you're having an unlucky streak of targeted mechanics (Turn 6 bulb, Turn 7 voice/shriek, Turn 9 Thermionic Beam, etc)*.

Don't worry so much about the DPS ranks. BLMs perform well and the decision between SMN and BLM mostly comes down to playstyle and the ability to combat res, which can be mitigated by people not being silly.

*Edit: Even in the event where you happen to get unlucky with mechanics, coordination with your group and use of Aetherial Manipulation will minimize so much movement that "movement heavy" isn't really an excuse anymore.

Ah well that is a major relief. Yeah, I did most content as an Arcane mage as I loved Arcane magic in that game and did very well at it as well. Kk, thanks so much everyone, you've given the spark I needed to commit to Blm full force and master it to the best of my ability. ^_^

I'd say SMN is the most well rounded DPS, they can maintain high DPS on most circumstances, be it moving alot (T6), boss jumping around (T9), AoEing on adds (all content), kiting mobs (T7), turreting on boss (T8),...etc. That said, they are like MNKs that has an wind up time, has less AoE ability than BLMs but are generally better off than any Melees AoEing, if Bane has no limit then SMN will be pretty awesome.

personally my favorite Final Fantasy (series) class of all time has always been Summoner-type classes. That said I really do enjoy the Bard in this game. Though I am personally giving Summoner another try to see if I can get it to work the way that I want it to.

BLM is overall the best on the current coil turns. Monks can beat them on 8, but it's not very significant. However, I'd say less than .1% of all players can play BLMs on this level.

The other dps you have done second coil with must be pretty bad.

Monk can be great for all the Turns, same for Summoner.

When you compare classes, you need to assume all are being played to a very high standard, under normal circumstances.

So much this. Don't understand the amount of "hate" that BLM's took this past coil. I run BLM (unless I feel like running Monk here and there) and have never had a problem with movement.

In answer to the OP, it definitely depends. In my static, it seems to work out where certain turns have a different best DPS. T6 is generally our Bard, t7 is usually our Bard or myself, T8 I've been pulling the highest numbers (much to our BRD's dismay for some reason), and on T9 it could be any one of us. Our SMN consistently pulls anywhere from 350-370 (sits at i106) so with that in mind SMN's seem to have the most reliable numbers. No matter what you're going to get the same amount from a SMN pretty much.
