Hunt etiquette - early or not?

So everyone's favorite hunt topic, the early pull.... Yes, there absolutely the jerks who love to pull early and cause drama. They didn't get hugged enough as kids, and we can't do anything about it. So, aside from that, I don't think people understand that most pulls are not early pulls.

I speak as someone who only has 1 hunting linkshell, and usually doesn't get early info when one pops. There are at least a dozen hunt linkshells on my server, all of them full... I don't think it's a matter of early pulls, I think it has more to do with SO MANY people hunting at once, and not everyone hears about it... To the 40 people who heard about it 5 minutes ago, they have waited long enough. To the other 40 who heard about it 30 seconds ago, it's an early pull.

Also, so often the party who found it wants to wait until everyone is there before announcing it to anyone else.. That's too long. Just wait until your party is in the zone, not on the spot. It will take at least 30-60 seconds longer for anyone else to get there as it is, no need to be super cautious.

We won't change player behavior, it will always be based on the number of people there.. As more people arrive one of them will look around, see enough people, and pull. So what is the answer? Bigger linkshells? Better coordination between linkshells? Has anyone solved the puzzle yet?

If your party is there is not an early pull, plain and simple.

Pull and Pray as soon as you're ready.

Announced pull times, and getting there early.

Honestly, I was in favor of the 5 miniute immunity when spawning for A and S Ranks that someone proposed. Perhaps even a Zonewide message for A Ranks, and a Serverwide message for S Ranks.

^^ I'd love to see some kind of visual/audio effects when an S rank has spawned on the map. Screen shaking, a different BGM kicking in, something like this. It should be like BAM, everybody stops what you are actually doing and look out for the big phat monster. Like beeing in South shroud and noticing the Weather change..although I do not do Odin fights anymore, I still love the change of the area when he pops. Downside could be if even more people become alerted that you have a hard time dealing enough DMG or building aggro to get full reward. But still, especially the S ranks could need some more WOW moments.

There is no such thing as "pulled early " Its called a "Hunt" like in real life if you find it its yours. The people who found it does not have to tell you where it is. Because by then being the 1st to get there it is theirs. If they wish to shout then that is their choice. Linkshells are for convenience when hunting. But your party should be ACTIVELY involved in searching for your mark. And in actuality sence there is hunt trakers up to help you a significant amount to help you find these hunts. The people who usually hear it last either is not hunting, not in a ACTIVE party, lazy leeches ,and/or hunting in the wrong area at the time. And just make your own hunt linkshell. Once you shout that you have one open people will come. And I play on Ps3 so I come late to EVERY hunt I dont find on my own that is not in the zone.

Because I'm in EU playing on NA I am active at some pretty odd hours.
I have found the playerbase to be more patient and less toxic in general during those non prime time hours.
To such an extent that I am not even going to bother with hunting during prime time now.

Pull it whenever your group is ready. People don't actually need allied seals anywhere near as much as they think they do. You may even get to taste some delicious tears of the entitled.

Cause if how toxic 90% of my server is I don't shout if I find hunts anymore I only send 3-4 messages 1 to my FC 1 to my party if I'm in one searching, and 2 to the hunt LS I'm in. Tho been working with FC and LS to spawn S ranks and 99% of the time were the first LS's to report any hunts found them get the trail of ppl waiting around. Tho still my fav moment was when the South Than S Rank spawned right on top of me and I wasn't trying to spawn it, just collecting hq mythril for craft leves. Spawned when I was crafting my rings fun Time but I do wait before I pull one I found usually based on how long the run is from ather with a max of 5-6 min. Tho always fun to watch a ranged try to pull early durning non peak hours and the groups just let that party die most of the time.

You would not cope on the JP servers, they do not even call hunts out. First people to find it slay it.

It isn't a right for you to kill every NM that spawns.

Well it's called "hunt" for a reason, but if people offer to wait, they should at least take some time - and that's something I see happen way too often for my liking.

Hunters of how old, sticks and rocks, bows and arrows, early rifles? In any case it's an invalid comparison, because the total reward given is not a fixed amount; it wasn't possible for 100 people to join in the elk kill and each walk away with 100 pounds of meat.

Everyone is not entitled to every hunt. If you are just waiting for your LS to announce a hunt and you are not looking for marks, you cannot complain.

I give 3mins + time taken to get to mob from teleport location from the moment I use my macro which annouces in Hunt LSs, FC and shout.

I don't believe you've ever been hunting in real life.

I know Rare EX on our server pulled a bunch of hunt marks before anybody had a chance to get to them. It's that stupid exclusivity mentality that goes around near endgame that helps them vigorously masturbate at night over how they were first to get to a monster in a videogame.

The amount of people trying to compare hunt marks in this game to real life hunting and gathering just kind of shows the extremely narrow perspective on both videogames and real life these kind of people have.

When I lead, I try to shout/say pull time to give others a fair chance to party and whack the target, sometimes I even tell my groups to DPS slow to give others a chance. It doesn't lessen my rewards any to share. If you make it, great. If not, I always offer to invite them to the next one. But not everyone has to show the same etiquette, nor should anyone expect it be shown to them. Everyone plays differently.

When hunting with a party and I find something, I call my party first, linkshell second and then shout so others can get in on the action, I generally don't pull and I wait for people who are on their way, but I can't fault those who pull early, if their party is already there, they have nothing to lose by pulling, I find its better to wait for others since it goes down faster, but its their call.

Even if a hunt is pulled early, there are dozens of hunts that appear daily, not like missing a hunt due to an early pull is that bad, if you are in dedicated hunting parties and follow the hunting site, you rack up a ton of seals/myth/sol with little effort. Pulling early isn't a big a problem as I have seen people make it out to be.

The worst currently to hunt is Odin and has been for long time, spawns every few days in real time and on too many possible maps plus each map fairly large, then quite often people will spam chat with incorrect co-ords to mislead others on purpose for laughs.

On Exodus, it's pretty common to announce and wait 2-3 minutes before pulling, and ask if anyone is on their way. There is one person that's a known early puller, but if that person pulls, people just shout "pulled" and attack it, not name calling. It takes a minute or so to kill the A ranks that has little to no AoE, and a few minutes to down Marraco, on prime hours. In my first hunts I got to see all of their attacks, so I guess we have less hunters here, and you can even get full credit with a 2-player party. Though S ranks do get a bit laggy, but people still respect each other. :)

....Why did we bother bumping such an old thread? I think Hunts at this point just don't really care.

I'm always surprised by the number of posts that sound as though people think that will help to get you there in time. I've often been in active hunt groups, all of us searching the right region for a mark that was due to pop, but we spread out to search more effectively, so I may be searching one end of the region while a teammate is looking for it at the far end of the region. So I'm actively searching in a party that's actively searching, and it may be my party that finds the mob first. None of that removes the fact that if it was my teammate at the far end who found it, I still have to trek clear across the region before reaching them.

I've seen the same thing from the other direction, too. I'll be in a party that's spread out to search and I'll find a mark with nobody else there yet. I'll announce it and as my party starts heading towards me other players will arrive and one of them will announce their pull, without any regard for the fact that the mob wasn't their find.

Early pulling isn't about finding a mark yourself and pulling once your party gets there without waiting for the rest of the server. Early pulling is coming to a mark that somebody else who's NOT in your party has already found and announced, and then pulling it before the original finder's party can get there.

It's not an old topic to new players, and it's OBVIOUSLY still enough of a concern that it deserved refreshing by a few players. Unless some of you 'old timer experts' feel that anyone less experienced is deserving of your sanctimonious contempt and pious superiority. I tend to shout a couple of times and wait for anyone to answer or come. If not then I'll pull. I have been told I'm a very considerate player :p

A trend on Ultros that has been working well is a time is set on the pull. Pulling Hunt @ 8:00am game time for example. Gives you an understanding of if you can make it or not so you don't waste time. This is shared in link shells, shouts, and FC chats. Maybe it will work for you, maybe it won't.

I saw something funny the other day. A big S rank was spotted, a few parties assembled and said "Holding for 60s for otw party members" Then out of no where a mage comes out of no where with a chocobo and pet in toe and pulls it. Surprisingly no one moved and the mage, his pet, and his chocobo all went down in a triple one shot kill.

The party leaders and everyone else just stood there and laughed until the last members showed up and we zerged it.

Mage was pretty pissed too when everyone refused to rez him.

Did he pull it with an attack? Or was it a face pull that could have been accidental (particularly if it were a pet or companion face pull)? I've seen issues like that with accidental pulls (and in that case, it would have been nice to rez him, though I agree with not doing so if the pull had clearly been deliberate).

Oh no, it was swift cast->Ruin II-> "Oh Shit!"-> Death.

I accidentally pulled a A-Rank while fishing when it saw through my stealth and one of the hunt healers Swift Cast me a rez because it was complete accident. Not this summoner though. He got what he diserved.

Someone in my hunt linkshell shouts a time countdown for a pull. But there is always some bozo who pulls before the time!

Really though, no one has a right to set a "pull time" and enforce it. I agree that it is a way to organize and help give time for others to gather, however Hunts are 'find and kill'. There are no rules indicating that anyone needs to wait for the entire server to gather before pulling a hunt. So I do think waiting is the nice thing to do, but it isn't a law and shouldn't be an expectation.

This is a situation where I feel like a lot of players needlessly play victim and are a major cause of the toxicity surrounding hunts. They are the true negativity. People rage about "early pulls" and then the name-calling and shouting begins. A lot of these same people aren't even tracking or 'hunting' these marks. They see people shouting and flocking and by the time the get their it is all over. No one was obligated to wait for you. If you missed it, suck it up and move along.

When players wait for you it is a courtesy so be grateful when you make it and when you don't, just accept it for what it is. Early pulls don't exist.

I hunt. I tell my party. Once most are close I'll yell to zone. Once my party reaches the hunt I'll spam my linkshells. Then I'll give roughly double the time it takes to run from the nearest bindstone to the hunt before I pull. If your ass dont make it thats your issues. I gave you time to port and run to the hunt. If you were messing with your retainer, finishing that FATE, fapping in town and did'ent make it .. then you were not hunting and have NO claim to the hunt mob and no argument over when it was pulled.

Fairly new on hunting but in Jenova, often hafta wait for a few minutes 3-10min b4 pulling. I make it as a habit to inform FC, linkshare n shout if found A Rank n above. But it differs with S rank as it lagged like hell i cant get a decent hit on it

the only thing i wish people would do regarding "pull times" is use the Eorzea time, not server time. i'm sure there's a reason people do it, but my server info displays Eorzea time (set it like that) and always has for an idea on what time it is in the game world or when out gathering. so it's not like a major inconvenience, i just have to check my phone or clock in the room here instead of looking at the game screen for the time.

Hunt etiquette varies from server to server. The last server I was on was organized largely by one person who controlled all the linkshells with their friends. Early pullers were booted from all linkshells. After they left the server, it became every man for himself. Every hunt was a big deal, and many people weren't in linkshells at all. I got labelled as an early puller when I found an A rank and shouted it out for 2-3 minutes and even reset it once when someone said they were on the way. Hunts were a very intense ordeal there.

On Adamantoise, things seem to be far more stable. People generally wait for a bit before pulling, even for those not in linkshells.

Those who pull early are given a few seconds of grief, and then people just forget about it and move on to the next hunt.

I honestly think that hunts should be shouted out and that a person should wait for at least a minute before pulling. After all, S Ranks are more difficult to kill for a reason. They're meant to be taken down by parties. But at the end of the day, everyone won't get in on every single event. It just isn't possible. I missed most hunts that were shouted when I was on PS3 simply because of load times. But it's just a game -- albeit a really awesome and involving one -- and those hunts will respawn eventually. I think we make a bigger deal out of it than it really needs to be.

Another problem is that people assume that the first time they are made aware of the Hunt is the time the hunt spawned. Someone may have already been staring at it for 3 or 4 minutes forming a party and they could have already shouted once or twice. No one needs to wait for the entire server to be informed and then wait for the entire server to show up. Just because you hear about a hunt and then teleported into the zone doesn't mean anyone has an obligation to wait for you. If you're late, you're late. I've witnessed many occasions where people start getting nasty and name-calling for "early pulls" when they teleported into the zone much later after people had been standing around gathering at the hunt location.

Look, it's simple logic:

Is the hunt up? Yes

Are you standing in front of it? Yes

Is it dead yet? No

Are there more than enough people there to kill it? Yes.

Kill it.

Listen to everyone (who was taking a dump when their linkshell announced the hunt and are zoning in 10 minutes after it was found) tell you things that are more rude than the fact that you didn't wait for them.

I mean I actually had someone tell me to die once. We stood there for 5 minutes staring at an A rank. Hadn't seen a shout in the zone for an invite for the last 2 of those 5 minutes. We kill it. Someone shouts for an invite 2 minutes later. I tell them it's dead, then I am asked to commit suicide.

You will NEVER convince people that you did anything shy of kidnap their mother and brutalize her. That's what blacklists are REALLY for.
