Request: Dance Sync

There are a lot of endless dances in the game atm, and if you synch on your own screen, chances are you're out of time on other people's screens. I was wondering what you guys would think of the ability to do something like /mdance sync <t>, which would allow people to dance in time with someone for every screen. Not sure how easy that would be, but going by how often I see people trying to get a good ol' fashioned line dance going, this would probably put a lot of smiles on a lot of faces. :)

I requested this a while back on the Japanese forums. No dev response though.

I do hope they implement it eventually. We had a huge player event on Gungnir last night with probably several hundred people doing the bomb dance, but of course everyone was out of sync which was just too bad.

I'd like to have /countdown back, I know it doesn't fix this problem but yeah. Would help when you're the picture taker. Only way to "fix" the sync is to rezone though it won't fix everything 100% of the time but it does work.

I time mine differently on purpose. Usually it's still in time with the other dancers and visually looks decent and offers a change of pace. I don't want people just walking up to me after I've timed my side down and syncing with me. I wanna be different ;)

In Guild Wars (1), you could do /emote *, and it would sync with some sort of in-game clock, so all dances would start at the same point along with any other emote you chose to sync.

I liked this.

The animations aren't synched with the server. You can actually get everything to synch on your screen by re-zoning. All animations will reset synching everyone.

Yes, that will sync everyone else ... on your own screen.

If you want to participate, you still need to synchronize yourself by starting your own dance at the right time.

And of course, to everyone else, you will probably be out of sync.

server stress limitation

We have DoT's applying every 3 seconds on the exact same 3 seconds, why is it such a big deal for us to dance?

^. Wouldn't be hard to have all dance emotes simply "tick" off the dot clock. Just for initiation, since I doubt the dances match up to a 3/6/9 second cycle.

Re-zoning more or less does it anyway, since as soon as it draws someone itinitiates their dance, but slower PC / more players means they get more and more out-of-sync the later they load.

I'm pretty sure the dances are done on your own machine---the server just tells the client to make this character look like they're dancing. Syncing should be simple.

This would be relatively simple to do since the client already accesses the server clock constantly so it wouldn't require any additional server resources.

All they would need to do is give us an additional command to add to macros (much like the current 'motion' command to remove the text description) that has the client wait until a specific interval on the server clock before initiating.

All the tools for this are already there, they just need to allow emotes to utilise it.

Dances are already synced. If you dance next to someone and it is out of synce, to anyone who has just entered the zone, you will both be synced as the animation resets.

Really, the only person who will not see the sync is the dancer themself.

And that's the point. People don't usually use emotes for random passerby's. They use them for friends or for themselves.

The dev team is looking into the /countdown feature, but there are other tasks that are higher in priority, so we are unable to announce a specific implementation time right now.

Well that's cool to hear. Maybe someday we'll be able to make a huge line of sync'd Manderville dancers in Mor Dhona.

Funny that Odin gets to announce the countdown feature XD. You sly zone slayer..

Could always just know the number ahead of time but a variable system and being able to place countdowns on targets locally might be helpful.

Maybe /countdown "doom". /localcountdown <t> "bio2" So I can be even lazier. :P

/countdown feature isnt really needed for anything. Better off adding countdown to a Chocobo Race.
It wasn't really used in 1.0 when it was in the game. I dont think it will be much use this time around unless you force players to use it in a new coil or something to keep track of time.

I like how /countdown was in 1.0, but its too difficult to put into 2.0, It's just an Animation above the head with numbers -_- SE and there amazing team at it again

I think a countdown feature will be nice, I would gladly use it before pulling, as a tank

laziness. if you want to sync. do it yourself. it aint special if its just spoonfed to you.

it's not about lazyness, it's about Latency lag etc. If there was something you could do in game to auto sync, itll auto sync on everyones screen not just yours

Actually it was used, a lot.
It's really hard to get people synced up for party/Free company group screenshots without it.

lol so true. i remember talking to my friend and he said something about two people dancing in sync. I'm sitting there thinking "is he blind?" before I figured it was latancy XD

The Moogle minions already sync up their dance when there are multiples, surely it can't be that hard to do with player dances? :x

well Cabal Online had a command for syncs all you had to type was /sync in chat and everyone's dance was synced on your screen

dance sync was there in 1.0. so i think they do know how to implement it, they already did once, ah my mistake , was it the timer countdown that was implemented in 1.0, i think it was the timer not the dance sync sorry

Time is synced across servers.

/s hey everyone /mdance @ 6:10 game time.
Everyone hits enter at 6:10 and bam..

Sadly everyone will be in sync but you because of server lag and you will look just out of step.
