The idea is that they'll be better for gaming since gamers just mash so with linear even though you get the key press out within a milimeter you don't feel that and bottom out. The idea is that you can barely tap the key and get what you want done, which is true but doesn't usually work in practice.
Browns and blues have a force feedback on when you actually press the key to actuate it and then of course the bottoming out. This means that ideally you stop pressing the key after you got the feedback that it's been pressed instead of continuing further down. You can also get o-rings to keep yourself from bottoming out (and quieter typing). Both take the same amount of pressure but blues have an extra part that makes the loud clack when actuated
imo Browns are the best to get as they're good for gaming and still good for typing. As for brands I'm fond of Filco and Leopold
I used a Deck Legend (with Cherry Brown switches) until it stopped working, despite being advertised as "The last keyboard I'd ever need".
I believe it had something to do with the keyboard's cable apparently disintegrating. It couldn't possibly have been simply chewed up by a certain cat that likes to do such things. Nope. No way.
However, I've replaced that with the aforementioned Corsair K70. Personally I prefer the reds to the browns. I also really like the contoured keycaps that come with it to optionally replace WASD and 1-6 on the number row.
Also, I like the whole design of the Corsair keyboard. The board itself is aluminum, and the keys sit on top of the board rather than in some cut out tray. This makes it easier to keep clean. It looks cool, and it takes up less real estate on the desk. It also has a nice thick fabric cable that just isn't nearly as satisfying to chew on.
Too bad they don't make the k70 in mx black...
Easy cleaning is a good point!
Here's a simple chart regarding mechanical switches:

go for Ducky, Filco, Deck... solid Keyboards.
as for which cherry mx color, imo you need to test to see whats best for you
There can be only one.
Unicomp Model M.
:)
i use the razer black widow ultimate 2014 with the razer switches it feels nice had the old ultimate before this with blues
I love my Das Keyboard Model S Ultimate.

I've played MMO end-game, casual and other types of games as well. Both with a cheap ass £15 keyboard, a mechanical keyboard and a more expensive laptop style slim keys keyboard. Result doesn't change, I sticked with the slim keys as I like the feel and less effort/noise. So yea, keyboard doesn't affect gameplay, just get the one you like by feel and looks and ofcourse cost.
I use a cheapo chiclet keyboard. It has a very low travel distance, so I find it more comfortable to use for long periods.
I have the Roccat Ryos MK Pro, Love this thing.
Got the brown switches, best keyboard i've ever had
preferably one that you cannot misplace
I have a Corsair k95 I like having the G keys however I don't use them as much as I thought I would they are still nice when grinding fates to not think.
Thanks fellas! I'm going to get a K70 RGB/cherry red when they hit my local shop next week, they are going to hold one of three for me :D
I am also ordering some goodies from wasd's website, blue o-rings, and a bootload of keycaps!
I'd try different switches though, before buying keyboard. There are some test switches available to be purchased in the internet. Everyone has different preferences, when keyboard is concerned. For example, I can't stand red, they offer no tactile bump, and as I also write a lot on my machine, they are useless for me. I'd not take anything but good old blue switches... maybe green, but blues are made for me.
Yeah, I got big hands and long fingers, too. But the difference between the Model M and Corsair K70 is night and day. More than the key spacing is the amount of force required to trigger a keypress. It takes a lot more force to press a buckling spring switch compared to a Cherry Red, but the buckling spring switch will never ever wear out.
Logitech K120 Business Keyboard - works just as good as any other.
I went with the CM Storm Tenkeyless with Cherry MX Browns. No regrets whatsoever.
I snagged a sale!
Corsair K65 / mx red - $69.00 canadian
I reallllllllly love the cherry reds, the greens at the store were dreamy to type on , however I knew that I would personally need reds for raiding.
Last night we did turn 9 for 3 hours and the keyboard actually does increase my efficiency and accuracy. Overall very pleased with the k65 (no numberpad, I remapped everything) stainless steel chassis keyboard with cherry's for $69 is a steal! especially with corsair quality!
Thanks for everyone who weighed in!
I have a Razer Blackwidow ultimate but I use my Razer Orbweaver + Naga mouse for all my gaming needs. The spacing on the keyboards are too small for my hands; cramps em.
I have a Corsair K70 MX Red and I'm extremely happy with it. It screams quality. Buttons are fast and smooth for gaming you can't miss a skill with it. Not that you can miss a skill with a normal keyboard except if you have a crappy one. The feeling of a mechanical keyboard is different and I like it.
I have the K70 and wouldn't personally recommend it. Not only do I prefer Brown switches, but for some reason the LEDs on the K70 are absolutely terrible. After having it for less than a year almost all of them are out
Go for a Das keyboard if you really want a solid mechanical keyboard.
