When will SE let us send mail / items between characters?

At the moment, no function to send mail to and from two characters on the same service account exists. Players cannot friend characters which are logged out, making the process impossible sans dualboxing. (and even then I'm not all that sure that'll work. Either way, I don't want to download 2 clients in order to test it, and opening the launcher again, and logging into the second character doesn't work.)

Does SE have any plan to allow characters to send mail between each other for the future? There are a number of players which indeed play alternate characters often.

- Before the "The game isn't designed for alts" discussion, nor was FFXI. Characters could have multiple jobs on that game as well, but the mail system allowed characters to send mail to offline characters without them having to be on a FL.

The inability to mail to characters on the same account has nothing to do with the game not being designed for alts. It's an anti RMT tactic. My guess would be when they feel it won't cause an issue in that regard.

RMTs probably have no issue making several accounts and trading with each other. If anything, this feels like more of a hindrance to actual players than a means to stop botting and gil-selling.

RMT have no issues trading, seeing as they can get accounts and do many of there other actitives for free, SE is oblivious to this,

What ever means they have of "stoping" RMT tactics have and are failing, they are still here, in full force, getting plenty of gill all this is doing in the end is hindering players. now the only upside to this is that they can't spam your mail with advertisments which they WILL do if they had the chance, as tells and shouts aren't enough, they have to shove it in your face none-stop regardless if you like it or not.

So yea, it could be worse if we weren't locked out. but they have no issues bypassing this stuff.

Anti RMT tactics are not meant to stop RMT. They already know that you can't stop RMT without 100% of the playerbase not buying. They're intended to make it harder for them.

They CAN stop them, but they would need to overhaul how currency is obtained, Which, let's face it, won't happen. RMT need currency to accumulate, and people to buy, two things that will never change. There will never none lazy/bad players to buy, and like any business they can't stay afloat without people buying.

Or the most harsh method by banning the area they are isolated in.

But yes i know they can't stop them, after playing FFXI for many years that was already clear to me a long time ago.

This will not happen for years since they will use this excuse for a long time.

Until they make all items rare/ex just like in FFXI and then it will be okay haha

The only way to overhaul how in-game currency is made is if SE sent everybody millions of gil in the mail. And, even then, that won't stop RMT spammers much less those who will continue to use the services of RMT. Even in online multi-player games, where in-game currency is laughably easy to get, there are those who will STILL purchase in-game currency from third party sources simply because they are lazy.

The only hinderance this does to RMT is stopping them from sending spam email. Thats it. Players cant support alts or use a mule so RMT spammers cant send spam mail. Or so they say. Coincidentally, this also has the added benefit of persuading players to buy the extra retainers. I mean they could do any number of things to bypass this for legit players... a shared bank, allowing us to friend offline players, or simply just letting us send email to characters in the same account without jumping through the friend list hoops. Surely they couldve done ONE of these things by now...its been over a year right? Maybe somewhere between glamour and paid extra retainers?

No? ... nah of course not!

The people who want this guess what SE doesn't want you to manipulate the system.

meaning questing up with a low alt then sending over level 50 gear to your mule so you can power up your retainers to get passed their buying extra ones.

then sending all the stuff to your main characters.

That's not the problem. They first need to make it so that you can't put untradable items into a shared account-side storage, which is probably what they're trying to do first before anything else. This is the main reason why RMTs make alts, so they can use account-wide storage to transfer untradable items. TERA has transferrable untradable items, but only in shared bank.

That system is already in place for FC chests. Has been from the start.

And I responded saying it's already like that.

There's really nothing stopping them from just adding other characters on the same account and server to the mail list. But then we're just getting into how easily bypassed other systems are by just having a friend as a relay.

I'd rather have a special inventory that can be shared between characters in my account, unique and untradeable items should be able to share between my characters too.

That would only make the problem worse, and would again, make it more of a hindrance to actual players than RMT. They will ALWAYS find a way to bypass it. They always have, and they always will. These counter-measures and preventions only make it a major annoyance for people who play the game legitimately. Right now, the only way to actually trade these items is through FC chests. So you would need to be in a company you trust and that trusts you, for one, you'd have to have access to the chest, and you'd have to have all of your alts in the same FC.

RMT can just use two accounts and trade with each other.

I agree they could easily make a shared storage,even if it's only 10 slots, that you can upgrade via mog station, rather than use mailing system if it's such an issue

Maybe a solution would be to make an account-wide bank that automatically binds any items in it to your account, making them untradeable and unsellable. Put a gil cap on it too then, if it's so important for RMT to be inconvenienced. 100k in the bank at a time, or something like that.

The reason you can't send stuff to your alt is because you can't friendlist your alt. They did this to make "chain of custody" on duped items or RMT stuff easier to track. They also made it so you can't friendlist someone offline so players don't have to clear a hojillion friend requests from spammers (or just creepy people) every time they log on.
It's not a direct "you can't send stuff to your alt because RMT," it's a side effect from other attempts to get around common issues. One that they're not motivated to change because...well, people who have mules but not access to FC storage chests are in the minority.
Shared storage is a possibility in the future, especially with personal housing, but again the motivation just doesn't seem to be there for the time being
