The new RMT tricks

On Diabolos server the RMTs are now spaming friend invites alongside the spam /tell . And you can not decline from the notification box. You have to go to the friends list and decline then blacklist. I told a GM about this today and there working on it . I wonder if the same tactics are being used on other servers as well.

I think a great idea for SE to stop RMT fast is to make characters in the cities to monitor the spam tells and shouts then delete and block that IP address . Sounds simple to me .

I had this happen to me today as well. I did a search for console commands and was flabbergasted that /decline did not work for friend requests! It only works for Party requests! RMT accounts have figured this out and are taking advantage of it!

With this new tactic when I right click on their name after they have submitted their "Friend Request" the only options I have is Accept Request and Send Tell. I should be able to right click the UI Friend request or right click their name and decline there.

Would be even better if there was an console command like /declinefriend so I can macro it. I like making it a 1 button affair.

I regularly submit RMT activity through Support/ In game Cheating. but there are just so many! And while this IS the offical way to report RMT. It is dishearting to never know if SE ever reads these reports.

/flist deny <r>
/blist add <r>

Blocking an IP address could end up blocking valid players due to the handling of some IPs. the RMT could be your neighbor just has to reset the router to get a new IP and yours resets and you can be the blocked IP address. so that's not a good way to handle it.

Blocking IP addresses/ranges would be a disaster for some players if not entire ISP networks - like mine!
My ISP (Kingston Communications/Karoo) is local ISP servicing my city and some of the surrounding county and it uses dynamic IPs so my address periodically changes along with several of my RL friends/players on on here; so we could get banned accidently by havin been moved to a banned IP by our internet provider. I'm also sure we're not the only players on KC's/Karoo's network.

Ok heres what we know about this new thing: Friend selling?
Turns out that if you friend someone it removes the restriction of tells by low level players.
allowing the new player the ability to repeatedly spam the player with messages again

method to fix it: New player under 20 hours since creation / and certain level can not send friend invites.

my extremest methods of perma fixing all Gil Selling
1: any new players whom you as a player have no interacted with on your part can not interact with you.
as in. if a new player in Ul dah, tries to message a player in gridania without having traveled there first and being under the time and level
restrictions will be UNABLE TO MESSAGE SAID PLAYER

My Tits end Fudge all low level players resolve would be:
Options menu: prevent all messages, interactions with players under level XX

Freaking BOOM DONE. if i want to interact with a low level then it should nul/void

2 new players should be able to communicate

Just limit tells for players with less than a week of playtime. 1 tell per 20 minutes or whatever. Fair for everyone.

It happend on my server as well. Fortuantely(?) there was just one bot atm.

Make rmt bots part of the daily hunts. You get 10 seals for each one. Also, its happening on Coeurl too.

The friend invite then RMT spam thing happened to me this morning too. At first I couldn't figure out why I couldn't blacklist them cause I declined the friend request...but yea, I have to go to the friendlist menu and manually decline it. Is that a bug? If you turn down a friend request, you shouldn't have to do it twice... Then of course, you get a error message if you try to blacklist them before you open the menu to turn down their friend request.

Honestly I don't know what they are aiming at (the RMTs). They are just being more of a nuisance. You would think these tactics would just tick people off more.... No one likes a pushy salesman. I had been just blacklisting them the moment they occur before... Now I just want to figure out how to make their lives more difficult since they are doing the same to me.

I just had 4 of these pop up in a span of an hour. Is there no way to block friend requests?

None of that should ever be implemented...there is no need for further /tell restrictions as that would unfairly hamper new players. So would any FL restrictions. Pretty sure they would accelerate their findings if they would implement subcommands like a right-click on name > RMT suspected and right-click on character > Botter suspected.

Should help a lot in their investigation, and of course both of them would automatically go into your new 500 blacklist..

Like the vote kick system, this can be abused, so same rules applies if you try to play tricks on your 'friends'

Heh, yeah they need to fix that. Im sure they will, though im not one to credit this dev team with quick and/or efficient responses to things like this. What im wondering it why I have to decline twice! You click on the tab that pops up, click decline, and its still there! You have to go into the actual friends list to do it. The irony is this just pisses me off so im actually going through the trouble of black listing and reporting them where I usually just ignore it. The opposite of what their intention in doing this was.

Two possible fixes:

Enable the ability to blacklist someone who has sent you a friend request, without declining the friend request first. (Or, make the act of blacklising auto-decline the friend request.)

Enable the ability to blacklist someone who is offline. (Just in case the spambot tried to dodge your blacklist by logging off while you fumbled with the friend request.)

Honestly, both of these should have been in game already. Why shouldn't you be able to blacklist someone who's not online? Why shouldn't you be able to blacklist someone who has send you a friend request?

While true, it sure solved the issue of Korea/Parts of China DDoSing FFXI a couple of years back.

Yes blacklisting should deny the friend request too, and there should be a rightclick option to deny a friend request as well as to report RMT. That said, there is still a solution to the specific problem people are reporting (not being able to easily blist someone who tries to friend you), and that solution was already posted in this thread. To say it again:

Add /flist deny <r> to the blacklist macro that you have already made because it's just a good idea and there's no reason not to have one. The macro should now look like:

/flist deny <r>
/blist add <r>

This refuses the friend request and blacklists the last person to send you a tell. No need to go through the friend list and manually decline the request. No need to then go look for the tell to blacklist the person. Just one button click. Done.

Assuming this works... Does the /flist deny have a confirmation box or something that makes this not work? I haven't tried it, because I have yet to be hit with this tactic on my server.
