First off, no this isn't about sands/oil of time or the myth rewards. I just want to understand the reasoning behind pricing i70 armor 25 times higher than i90 armor.

Because vanity gear.
i90 myth gear has about as much value as Darklight gear in 2.1
But I remember Yoshi did say something about the adjustments to armor prices in 2.35
It does feel like a total waste to me though, like content that somehow was not released in the correct order. I mean we finally get an upgrade to the GC gear for sale that has stats better than what's there now for the lvl 50 gear, and it will never see a day in battle.
The point is to make certain vanity gear take a while to acquire, thus adding value through rarity. It is not meant to wear as real gear.
As the others mentioned, you don't buy them for their stats. You get them for looks.
It's part of their really unfortunate philosophy that glamours should be made to be difficult to attain in order to increase their desirability.
Personally, I really hate this line of thinking and wish they'd go back on it. It's a big part of why I'm still only wearing basic cheap stuff for my glamours instead of anything from the new dungeons.
Because most had the relic armor it was outdated since the new weathered stuff came out and ST came out with that new armor.
So that's also new armor for vanity, I expected it to cost that much.
Though they better start making vanity look better than that, to me I wouldn't buy that unless it looked awesome.
or a reason to even get it.
Say like I have to do a quest and I need that armor to complete it, so far no purpose for that so waste of allied seals.
The weapons are crazy expensive. 1600seals for vanity? You could get 2 sands of time for that price and still have 100 seals leftover.
They definitely need to tone down the prices for those, or at least make daily marks worth doing. T_T
They already said they were going to buff the daily ones, as for the Myth gear I suspect the reason it is on the allied seals vendor (and for cheap) is as a catch up mechanic, before you know it you'll be running dungeons for (which you'll need a high enough ilvl to enter)ilvl 100 gear, CT for 110 gear, and Coil3 for 120, not to mention when Myth tomes get removed and the one above soldarity is added, they will most likely remove the Myth gear from the RT vendors, this way they are still obtainable.
as for the cosmetic items, I agree the prices are a bit steep, but then again you might as well consider the PvP gear purely vanity as well considering how useful it is in the content it was designed for, and its price is even worse.
if it was only for vanity, an armor level 1 without stats is enough and people will have less complain... but here the point it's to put a gear less good soo expensive when you can buy for almost nothing a gear 20ilvl better.
since 2.2, all the vanity stuff it's a pain to get, it's nice to add vanity stuff but if people must litterally grind them ass for get it... people will often simply not do it. we play for have fun and forget real life, not for work. just saying.
It's what happens when you keep delaying newer GC ranks but tell gear designers to come up with new designs for them ahead of their implementation, and since modeling and graphic work in general takes relatively less time than coding, writing and implementing new quests and systems for those ranks that gear gets completed first but put on the backburner.
Then suddenly one or two months before a big patch someone decides to implement a new type of content out of the blue and it's just kinda thrown in there with some basic thought and ideas behind it but ultimately with little foresight on how the content will be actually be attempted by the players, oh and they also need some rewards for that content.
Since it was developed quickly and spontaneously and they also had some unused gear designs just sitting there it's faster and cheaper to just repurpose them. Since that gear looks mostly cool and also because it's newer, shinier and never before seen in game, at least design wise, it costs more. Since it was planned to be implemented for GC ranks that should have been added months ago it's lower level than the current mid to top tier gear.
Just speaking out of my behind though.
Why can't we actually have USEFUL gear and options with more stats (ie, 1.x stats) on this gear? Why does everything have to be vanity? Give us more options/stats....
Well this is what happens when people tell SE to focus on vanity rather than having an actual use.
Why even bother adding stats if they claim it's for "vanity". I honestly think that's pretty stupid. The same with i80 from dungeons being called "vanity" despite it actually being an upgrade for some people.
The way I see it, given that 2.4 isn't that far away, people are going to fall into two categories:
1) Rushing to catch up to the max gear score.
2) Kinda bored since they have played the same job for a while, have all or most of their gear, and now have the opportunity to gear another job.
Even if someone thinks their outfit looks hideous, there are a bunch of much easier to acquire vanity sets at this point than one that costs the same as multiple oils/sands.
I honestly wish they would increase the prices of the glamour set, to make them even rarer, they were never designed for stats. Still unsure why they didn't just make them full on level 1 no stats though
It doesn't make sense how many times this question is asked lol! It is vanity gear. You can only get that particular gear if you are a member of that specific GC and it can only be purchased via allied seals, so it is "special" in a sense. Old myth gear is just made easier to buy regardless of gear level.
Everyone has I90 gear. Its basically irrelevant. People also requested more vanity choices, and obviously this is vanity gear (the i70) which they made more seals for people to keep doing hunts. Its not like people are going to need 10000 sands or oils. When you have what you need they needed a reason to keep people doing them.
We know it's just vanity gear, is not like you opened our eyes with this comment.
The question is why are they just vanity. They would have served their glamour purpose just as well if they had useful stats. I mean here you have a whole lot of sets that designers and modelers spent time on which is useless.
The same exact problem the sets of the new HM dungeons have.
That's a good point. I always enjoyed the GC gear levelling up, and how they had synergies with eachother, granting bonuses. They could have easily recreated that for an alternative higher-level armour and weaponry using Sanction. Not sure why they only focused on vanity gear :/
Although there's still several unattainable GC ranks, so here's hoping a future update offers nice upgrades there.
Also I'm glad they cost a lot. I hope there is some even harder glamour gear to get in the future. Its annoying when everyone has the same look. Its nice when there are some longer or tougher choices that people who work for them get and those that dont, dont. Having everything available to everyone immediately gets old.
Neither does the idea of "let's make some items harder to get because I don't want everyone looking the same". It's not even the matter of whether or not the items are easy to get. If people want something, they'll get it. I already seen a lot of people wearing augmented gear for that glow effect, despite how difficult getting the materials are, so it's not really special.
This is 100% vanity gear and who ever came up with it knows it.
Hunts also drop tomes and by the time you have the seals you have enough to get i100 tome gear, get sands instead and make it i110. i70 gear that is more expensive than i110 serves no purpose and one does not need to be a player to see that.
(yes, hardcore hunt junkies will face the problem of tome cap)
Maybe they wanted to troll the designer or just used some junk from the scrap box and claim that they added new content.
This is what really bugs me about ARR, so many missed chances. Why is there only 1, well with SCoB 2 (but that is not available to the masses), gear sets? There are so many stats and even more unused stats to play with.
Move some of the secondary stats into set bonus and do crit gear, speed gear, pvp gear, pve gear (in terms like it got some regeneration for example) and start using what is already there: stun resist, elementals etc.
They could give players more means to customize their gear with new materia for these unused stats (+heavy resist anyone *g*)
And here, folks, we have the opinion of someone who CLEARLY is not an artist. Lol.
Do you have any idea of the ammount of work involved in conceptualize, draw, build up the 3D model, TEXTURIZE IT (AKA the UVW mapping hell), rig it, animate it, test it, figuring out you need to reduce polys cuz the damn thing is sucking up processing power, RETEXTURIZE IT, rinse and repeat 400 times, then release it?
I'm gonna bet a gil here that you don't.
I really like the Vanity gear. I'm not wasting all my seals on sands. I'd rather just get my 110 in 2nd coil.
Augmented gear is easy to get. All it costs is gil or you craft it. And of course if people want something they will get it. But for example, hunt gear costs a good amount of seals so you actually have to want to put in time for the pieces. Therefore there are less out there instead of having it be 20 seals each and then its trivial like almost every other thing in the game.
you cropped this statement at the worse possible point.
to answer two questions.
1) it's not Lv 1 gear because they want to limit what you can glamour them on to, that's also why it's not just a flat Lv 50, why it's not higher like i90, i'm not sure, i guess they were being nice and want it to be slightly more accessible. or they were just keeping more inline with the other tiers of Grand Company gear that already exists.
2) it's not i100 or i110 with useful stats because they want gear of that level to have somewhat meaningful content behind it. Roris wasn't saying designing art takes no time, but designing an entire tier of content like Coil or Crystal Tower to go along with earning that gear takes significantly more time.
