You would get kicked out of party, if you use carbuncle with no heal skills instead of Eos.
I think when you'll see at what SCH's quests and story and lore are about, you'll see the big flaw in your request.
You could swim against the currents and main 50ACN?
I don't say that I want to have carbuncle without healings. I'd like the pet, that heals like Eos but looks like carbuncle. Something like glamour on pets :)
What Algin is talking about is cosmetic changes to the pet, similar to WoW's Minor Glyphs, which mostly change how things look (changing your Water Elemental to look like a Water Revenant, making your Chain Heal look like water instead of light, etc).
They've already announced their stance on this. There won't be a way for Summoners or Scholars to use Carbuncle. Might as well get used to the idea of having a fairy follow you around.
As much as I'd like to have carbuncle back as a summon its not gonna happen. What I do for nostalgia sake is make an alt and go on low level queues.
It was a good idea they made the fairies and egis float because during 8 man raids I cant find where carbancle went.
SE is being silly because remember that one Hunt prompt screenshot? The one where the SMN is with a carbuncle fighting a mark in Lower La Noscea?
People were like 'OMG, they listened. They're gonna allow carby somehow.' And then nope. They know we want it. They tease it. But so far, nope. =l
Why would you want to keep that carbuncle when the fights in the higher content get way to hectic to do without a healing hand. Your tank will be dead in a second if the Eos wasn't there to pick up the loose ends and Selene to work your way through the dungeons giving battle buffs.
Even if you could keep carbuncle he would be completely useless to SCH if kept the way he is, WHY would you want to keep him that badly? Besides, EOS is a champ imo, i don't know any sch that would give her up for carbuncle. (- this thread)
If you are that desparate you can always take off your stone, of course you know the negative impact that will have on you for just cosmetics.
Even if Carbuncle could heal, SCH's lore and story is all (and I mean all) about the Fairy. Thief being renamed Rogue is a plain example of SE's stance on keeping the lore of classes and jobs straight in this game.
Again, my best advice is to be a casual and just roll as lv50 ACN. Long as you keep out of istanced duties, no one will harass you for being ACN (though some people in FATEs still like to be pricks and harass you about it).
Or play SMN and just never get the Garuda-Egi. But even then, you'd have to stick out of instanced duties to not receive fairly-justified complaints.
I was the same way, the fairy turned me off of scholar for a while, until I got to experience the lore behind it. I think the lore is a little too important to give up the fairy, considering she's why you have your powers in the first place. It'd be like letting one class glam a weapon from another class, which wouldn't make sense in most situations.
Love Selene and Eos. When I first started the game I was glad to discover SCH's didn't have oddly coloured chicken nuggets following them around like SMN do.
Just going to chime in on this issue: while I understand the whole lore thing behind sch and the fairy, allowing us to keep a pet that attacks for those solo times wouldn't be so bad would it?
Right, but since the beginning of ARR, SE said that classes (and wider cross-abilities options) were meant to solo, while Jobs would be specialized for party content. The solo abilities are there. It's Arcanist. That people prefer to solo as Jobs instead of classes is a community misconcept.
The thing about Carbuncle is that it wasn't until XI that he grew teeth and a backbone. He's always been this support entity in older titles, what with the party-wide reflect and whatnot. I feel like arcanist/Scholar got mixed up with their summons. Arcanists should have gotten 1.0-style sprites as their summon and Scholar should have indeed gotten Carbuncle. Instead, it's... largely the other way around.
Sorry guys your at your abillity cap, no class gets any more/less.
because it's only fair that way right?
What?... While I never played early 1.#, I did play around 1.18~ and there was no arcanist then. Or warlock. Or trap user. So I don't know what reference you are making here. When I mentioned sprites I meant these...

Tanaka gave us the general idea on what Arcanist was going to be and that the mechanical staves they have "is the biggest hint" (which was the only vague part.) The rest a lot of people got from data mining the data that already existed ontop of what Uriager or w/e his name is used when he was telling us about Dalamud (the abilities were tagged arcanist) - Basically arcanist was still in a primitive state ready to be release after the first major update of the new year.
I know what you were talking about, I say Warlock because that's what SMN is - So they had to bring that style of gameplay somehow :p
thing is, that is explainable on SMN. you don't have to do the lv45 SMN quest at lv45 so you still have Emerald Carbuncle till you face and beat Garuda-Egi (which you have to have faced and beaten Garuda Primal story mode to do)
on SCH this would not be explainable since it changes out both Summon & Summon 2
Give us a Carby skin!
Problem solved.
