what would you name your wyvern?
Dead Flesh
You have already another bird as a companion
what be that, i wantt
Sorry boy, you are a dragon killer, now kill me that dragon and go back to coerthas training.
This is NOT FFXI.
STOP ASKING TO MAKE DRG A CRAPPY PET JOB
lmao at both the above comments
First you can't ninja loot in this game aside from Greeding something you weren't assigned to in a designated Greed party. You talking about bad goons who lay dead the whole fight then score loot? If so thanks for the ridiculous broad generalization. I sit near the top of DPS usually and rarely die by my own fault unless it's the 1000th wipe on Titan EX and I'm so zoned out I can no longer keep track of Landslides (I've cleared up to Ramuh I just tend to help FC mates). I loved my wyvern (Ember) but it held the job back in FFXI. Don't want it here unless it's done right.
1st of all the joke.
2nd of all fun goes out the window in favor of MY NUMBERS. Yet it means nothing to have MY NUMBERS if you die once in a fight.
Overall Dragoon players don't realize that such a mentality goes out the window if they don't top meters every single time and thus the confliction will always exist, thus Dragoons Bane.
With or without a pet. Dragoons every time.
Don't misunderstand me. I don't care about numbers all that much. I was just saying I contribute just as much if not more than a lot of other DPS I roll with regardless of class. I don't like people crapping on the Job because it tends to attract derptastic players. Those of us DRG mains who are actually good players have to suffer for it.
Welcome to like.. 8 years ago, you're tired of something that's been the norm since DRG was released as a job in their previous MMO.
It doesn't help Dragoon's case that next to Bard it has the lowest entry skill level of any DPS class so more people play and stick with it compared to other jobs.
Oh and before someone takes this as an attack on DRG or BRD understand that ENTRY skill level just means it's easier to pick up and play at first glance in comparison to something like Monk or even Summoner. This in no way implies that every person who plays Dragoon or Bard as their main is any less skilled than someone who plays MNK, BLM, or SMN. Yoshida did state however that Dragoon was designed to be easier to learn in regards to melee DPS.
also, jokes.
I'd call it Handbag
... because Dragoons, you know... are at war with Dragon kind. :c
Alternative names:
Left Boot
+Def Bikinibottoms
New inventoryBag
Dinner
I would call it either Wind-up Wyvern or just Wyvern. Why? Because this is FF14, not FF11. Go away with your "Wah wah Dragoon needs a pet!". Come on people, stop trying to turn this game into something it's not meant to be.
Yeah, the action bar doesn't show any pet commands so that's just a minion so I'd call mine Wind-Up Wyvern, too.
Ah, that must be the Wind-up Wyvern that you get from running on the Dragoon job in the endgame instances! Square Enix mentioned something about this seeing as there weren't many Dragoons and they wanted an incentive to get people on that job. /Kappa.
ITT: Guy makes a fun little topic asks simple question then you have everyone is losing their friggin' minds.
It's the weekend...relax.
You know, when squeenix showed off a picture of af2 along time ago for drg, it was labeled dragon knight. My first thought was why don't they make lancer branch off into a dragon knight that fights alongside dragons instead of against them? Win win yo
Beastmaster, please look forward to it ! :D
(If they add the wyvern to dragoon, then the job will have to be nerfed to make up for the extra dps)
Even if you got something like Beastmaster you'd only get like 3 pets to choose from. Each job has far too few abilities to implement something like FFXI Beastmaster. Unless(, no until!) they expand jobs and abilities we aren't going to get anything complex like that.
That's not a wyvern, it's a gods damned baby DRAGON. Wyverns don't have arms.
It's more a case of..
ITT: guy makes post that has been brought up at least monthly since jobs were announced in 1.0, majority of player base sick of hearing it and wishes the desperate hold outs would let this poor horse rest in peace, you couldn't even make a thimble of glue out of what's left from all the beating.
I really wish people would stop using the word "Majority" until they can provide evidence of this claim.
I don't recall an official poll asking whether or not the Dragoon job should have a pet or not with results that can be posted to back this up. If you wanted to be honest then simply say that you personally are tired of hearing of it and be done with it.
There was no "offical" poll, but there was in the 1.0 forums an "unofficial " poll thread with "No" winning by a wide margin, as well as the dev s flat saying a long time ago not only that it ain't going to happen but also explaining why. (Basically they said, it was either gimp the players actual damage to add the pet, or let the dragoon be powerful. They went with the latter)
The topic has been settled, let it die.
They could make the Wyvern a Companion like the Chocobo. That way the DPS won't be skewed in dungeons and no one really cares about DPS in the open world.
XI is the only Final Fantasy that had Dragoons with usable wyvern pets, they are dragon killers in XIV and only those Dragoons controlled by Nidhogg have some loyalty towards dragons, just like Estinien had a pet drake in 1.0. I'd rather not see yet another piece of established lore twisted to fit in something that didn't before even if the previous MMO entry in the franchise featured it. I'd also just rather have a proper Beastmaster job.
I remember the 1.0 forum poll, and i also remember the devs speaking about their reasoning at the time as to why the Dragoon job did not receive a Wyvern, as well as Yoshida's future plans to add more "Dragon" elements to Dragoon.
My post wasn't me advocating for them to add one to the job, merely pointing out that you still have not provided evidence of a "majority" in either case, no more no less.
EDIT: To the comment you edited in to your post, welcome to MMOs where nothing stays the same and things often change over time based on player feedback.
If they ever implemented wyverns with customizable names, I'd call mine Azure in honor to my FFXI Wyvern^^
Unfortunately I don't know when name-able minions will come out, so I just gave that name to my chocobo instead :/
And I don't even like chocobos as companions >_< I'd use any other mount but them!
I would not call it anything. No point in giving a name to something that is going to die shortly after encountering it.
It would make a lot of sense to have DRGS do more damage to dragon enemies, as they have in past games with said names. Wait, does that make to much sense? am i over steping the bounds here?
My chocobo companion's name was Leon in 1.0. Plot wise, he died of old age and another Cartneau veteran chocobo, Lucian, has taken his place at Lin's side.
I would not name a Wyvern pet that should not exist.
It's already a stretch that any player with a Drake mount from the Brotherhood of Ash story-line isn't agroed by Ishgardian military on sight if they were to ever roam into corethas with it. A dragoon with a Wyvern pet would break and entire nation's worth of established canon.
Some of the biggest hangups for developments of this game is 'it doesn't fit with the story' thus we got the whole Rogue/Thief quandary. Story, was listed as the primary reason why that name is changed. Story is the exact reason why you don't see Dragoon with a Wyvern pet either.
