Is there a chart that explains all of the possible symbols that can appear next to mob names? I've tried searching for one, but I must not be using the right key words.

Gamerescape has a pretty good list. The only ones that are missing (AFAIK) are the little gear icons you get over Hunt targets/Animus book targets.
Something like this?
You guys are fabulous. That's exactly what I was looking for. Thanks!
Little off-topic.
Always wondering when I see the icon of gladiator, why in world it has 2 blades instead of blade and shield. It's like picture of class which is dual blade (like bladedancer or something) :)
Lots of mysteries in this game! The best one for me is why are staffs labelled as two handers but my WHM uses one hand to wield them.
OK, here's one my son asked me yesterday and I had no answer for him: What do the letters in blocks (for example a K in a block) mean to the right of mob names?
I'm not sure why its two weapons for each, but when 1.0 first launched shields had their own class called Sentinel. It was a sub class any one handed weapon user could use, which was probably part of the logic between one and two handed mage weapons, as with Sentinel a mage could block a fair amount of damage with a shield. I used to use wand and shield to solo on conjurer.
I could also cast while moving, had a full range of elemental nukes and no native MP recovery in battle. I still miss the first. :)
Actually, these symbols did not originally appear on the mob when it first spawned. Here is what happened:
Someone came along (before you arrived) and either attacked a mob or was aggroed by it, but that mob had a LINKING mob, or 2 mobs, to it. So now this player is being attacked by either 2 or 3 mobs. He either dies or runs away and the mobs chase him but eventually reset to their starting position again. You come along and NOW see [K] at the end of the name and 2 more letters on 2 other mobs. That will indicate to you those are linking mobs and you were not the first to attack them either.
This is not correct. Every mob in the game has a letter. You can watch them spawn with the letter already there, before anyone's done anything to them. It's nothing to do with linking or with anyone else's actions.
On testing, it looks like I'm not quite right, either. You don't get to see the letters (anymore) until you (or someone else?) has engaged. But I just had mobs L, M, and O, with no N.
